I was a very lucky Slytherin two weeks ago and wond four tickets to an advance screening of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It was today, and without giving anything away, it was awesome. I've written a review of it, which you can either read over at my LJ or right here.

HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE

(okay, quick side comment before i get into the review. the preview we saw was too cute for words.)

This was by far, the darkest of all the movies, but for those who have read the books, know that this installment is really dark. I personally believe that this is the best adaptation from book to screen of these movies. A lot of it was cut to allow for the main storyline to take place and some of it was condensed, like Harry waking up from the dream he has at the beginning in the Weasley's instead of the Dursley's (who are not present this time around).

The first half of the movie moves along really well. The first task alone is worth the price of admission. The Hungarian Horntail is the best computer animated creature in the entire series thus far (even better than Buckbeak). And the task, while I know the outcome, was exciting and I even caught myself holding my breath several times.

The second task was so cool. This is my favortie task of the Tournament. I think I like it best because it shows Harry as being so genuinely Harry. I'm not sure if that makes sense, but Harry saves Fluer's sister because it's the right thing to do, and he's not doing it to prove something to anyone or trying to figure something out that ultimately turnes out to be false. It was really, the first time I ever saw Harry, truly, being heroic. The way the Gillyweed transformation took place was very cool, and the shot of Viktor as the shark was awesome.

The third task is life-changing in the book so not that much was changed in the movie. If you know the scene in the book, you know the scene in the movie. Very dark, creepy, and disturbing.

On to the other matters of the movie such as the Yule Ball, the Incredible Bouncing Ferret, Mad-Eye Moody, Cedric's death and the Quidditch World Cup.

I'll begin with the latter. Awesome spectacle. It wasn't that long in the movie, but it was still pretty incredible and the entrance of my favorite character was just scrumdidiliumptious. ("Well hello Mr. Felton.")

The Yule Ball was gorgeous and Hermione was almost prettier than the set up. It was just a really great scene and a nice break from all of the dark that the story contains. And the scenes between Ron and Hermione were heartbreaking. (Ron, here's a blank check. Go buy yourself a clue.)

Mad-Eye Moody is such a great character. I'm so very happy that the fact that he wasn't really Mad-Eye was in the movie. (Unlike PoA, very little information was left out. All of the really important parts of the storyline were there.) And Brendan Gleeson was so wonderful. Funny, unnerving, and crumudgeonly all at the same time. He must have done his homework. *applauds*

Cedric's death is just so horrible. The guy who plays him, isn't good-looking enough to play the dreamboat that is described in the book, but what he lacks in looks, he more than makes up for in character. I truly believe that the casting was perfect here. The reaction after Harry returns from the graveyard almost made me want to cry. Just heartbreaking.

And now, for the Incrdible Bouncing Ferret. We all know that Draco is my favorite character. I love him, I do, but that doesn't mean that I can't look at him and not think that he doesn't deserve what Moody gives him. I can't really go into great detail here, because if you are reading this before you see it, I don't want to spoil everything for you, and this scene is so much better if you don't know about it until you're watching it.

Overall, I loved this movie. I was very impressed with the book to screen adaption, the acting, the directing and the special effects. I highly recommend this movie. If I were to give it a grade, it would probably be an A-.

And uh, Tom Felton, I love you.

*POSSIBLE SPOILERS*

I agree with everything you said, blue.
I've seen it twice so far.
I thought everything with the yule ball was very amusing. The bathroom sene was very well done and will delight all the fangirls. I almost started crying at the end of the third task, Harrys reaction was just perfect. Cedric was brilliant. that licking thing that Crouch Jr. did, was somewhat odd. I can't quite remember if that was in the book or not. I wish they had shown the veela (sp?), and had left Winky and Dobby in the movie. I hope this doesn't mean that Kreatcher won't be in the next movie. You could tell every once in a while that they were trying to cut CGI costs. But anyway, I think it was the best movie so far. :D
