Yes, it's the very famous Kikyo vs. Kagome rivalry. I've seen so many threads about this saying "KAGOME ROCKS! KIKYOU SUCKS!" or vice versa. (with the exception of a few people who decide to argue over this intelligently :D) You never see them explain why kagome rocks/sucks.
Anyway, I've decided to make an official thread about this, without all of the biased outbursts. Which means, you can NOT just come in and tell us "i hate kagome!!1!" You have to explain why you like/hate them so much.
I would start off this discussion with my opinion and whatnot, but seeing as I don't really care who's better than whom, i'll give somebody else the honors... :ph43r:

GO kagome! kagome is so cool. kikyo is kinda mean and only cares about herself and inuyasha...kinda...but she is so mean to kagome. like int he first movie she pushes her in the well and in one of the last episodes, kagome brings her back to life but she doesnt thatnk her....i just dont have a thing for kikyo....^_^

Kikyou is too threatening. Sometimes she is a bit hard to understand, kikyou is pretty cool but more like in the way of a villian. Kagome has to go through a lot of shit and still is positive. I think those are enough for an explanation... I love Kagome :)

From what I have seen so far in the episodes, this is what I gather.
When compared to Kagome, Kikyou is more intelligent and wise. She is mature, something that Kagome lacks, and her spiritual powers are stronger. Kikyou has great confidence and is a woman who can take care of herself without stumbling and falling (if you know what I mean). Yet as positive as these traits are, there is a dark side to Kikyou. One of the negative things about her is that she is too proud. Her love for Inuyasha is stronger than the anger she carries, but she refuses to let her guard down. She won’t surrender to Inuyasha’s emotional stance. She is the dark side of Inuyasha, and that is why they both connect so well, because they are both equals emotionally and intellectually. They understand each other because of the dark feelings they have inside their hearts. They are both wounded souls and have experienced sorrow, sadness, suffering, and heartache. That is why Inuyasha is attached to her. He knows there is someone who understands him and who can relate to his tortured emotions. They both had sympathy for each other and were able to become one in that way. When Inuyasha first met her, Kikyo was the only person who did not fear him, judge him, or hate him. She was the one who made him start feeling real human emotions. She was a model of goodness for him, a person he could be like. Inuyasha and Kikyou felt alone in the world because they were different from everyone else and that connected them too.
Yes, I feel sorry for Kikyou and understand her suffering. It was not her fault she was put in such horrible circumstances and for her to die. She did not deserve to suffer the way she did. I have nothing against her, and I liked her at the beginning, but as the episodes moved on and I noticed her treatment towards Inuyasha and Kagome (especially the time she tried to kill her, although Kagome one time wished Kikyou was gone forever too but she has never wanted to kill her), then I started to dislike her. I admire her strength, courage, and determination. She IS a good person because she helps other people and tries to save whoever she can from harm. Her goodness is obvious, but I also admire Kagome.
Concerning her behavior, Kagome is immature, a whiner, clumsy, and idiotic sometimes. But while Kikyo is beautiful on the outside, Kagome is beautiful on the inside. I love Kagome’s heart, her goodness, her compassion, and her funny personality. Although Kikyou is stronger than Kagome powerfully, I believe Kagome is stronger than Kikyou when dealing with personal feelings. Kikyou is too stubborn to admit she still loves Inuyasha because she feels her mission is more important and believes giving into her feelings will weaken her. She refuses to tell him that she loves him, to be with him and be by his side, to give up and sacrifice her entire self for him despite the past. Kagome, no matter how much she knows Inuyasha loves Kikyou, was not afraid to reveal her feelings for him. She could have stayed in her own time and forgotten about him, but her love made her realize that her life would be miserable w/o him. That is the reason Kikyou still suffers. Kagome is brave because it takes a lot of guts to tell a person you love how you feel when you know he does not feel the same for you.
As I see it, Kagome is Inuyasha’s safety net. She provides him with the love and understanding Kikyou refuses to give him. She is the “light” side of him. Without her, his life would be clouded with negative feelings all the time. She is his fresh air, the shoulder to lean on, the pillow to rest his soul. She gives Inuyasha the comfort and affection he desires. He needs that, as tough and strong as he is. That is why he is attracted to her, because she is everything that he wants sentimentally. Kagome never hesitates to display her love for Inuyasha: a hand on the shoulder, a hug, a kiss, her tears, shouting his name, following him despite danger and risk of being killed. She always remains by his side, no matter what, she never wants to leave him ALONE, and he appreciates that. Even though he rescues her and saves her from battles, Kagome is always there to also rescue and save Inuyasha “soul-wise”. She reminds him of the happiness that can be found in life, and she is an example of the beauty in life too. She takes him away from all the pain and hurt inside him. She IS the happiness of his life. Without her, his life would always be darkness. Besides, she makes his life interesting too, with all the arguing she does with him. They enjoy annoying each other and have fun doing it.
As long as my statement was, I hope I made my point. Both Kikyou and Kagome have their strengths and their faults, their good and bad qualities, but both are completely connected concerning their one weakness: Inuyasha. They both passionately love him. However, Kikyou will not surrender to her heart, as much as it hurts her, but Kagome always will.

I always saw it the other way around. While Kikyou is quiet, it is not the same as being mature. As a psychology student, I think I should be trusted when I say that my analysis of Kikyou has proven that she is an immature twit..over and over again.

No, I am not an insane Kikyou hater (as it seems) I hate Kikyou, but I can see her good points as well as her bad. I think she is very misunderstood by her emo fanbase, and that bothers me quite alot. I do not like when people call her smart, mature, and wise, because she is none of those things. She has good points to her, but none of these apply

Kikyou does whine as much as her,but she conseals it with her mysterious acts in such a way.Kikyou however is more experinced,InuYasha can actually feel someones got his back,instead of someone running around.Kikyou feels her mission is more important becuase she wants what everone wants.Revenge.She was also raised to not fall inlove,and in the 147-148 special Kikyou realized her spiritual powers weakned the night after she kissed InuYasha.
Compared to Kikyou-Kagome is a bit more human like.She gets mad happy upset pissed jealous,caring,tender,mother-like,ect.Kikyou has thoes wide ranged emotions as well but she lived her whole life behind a mask.You cant expect Kikyou to pop out and tell what she feels.

Its obvious,that both used"anti-trust" methods to protect them selves.Its only natural,that their trust for each other is a little unstabel.But!Their had to be large amounts of trust,for Kikyou to allow"InuYasha"to sneek up on her.
As quoted from Suki,(or athena,cant remember)"Kikyou should have been able to detect that someone was sneeking up on her"She knew it was"InuYasha"Thus proving how strong Naraku's disguses was.Not only apperance but scent wise as well.Lets look at the obvious facts.InuYasha is the only silver red cloaked hanyou in the whole village.Thats something you dont see everyday.Kikyou intentionaly let her guard down becuase she trusted InuYasha enough not to do anything sneeky.When you willingly let your guard down to some and have it stabb you in the back,is very trust shattering.Its like you can imagine the people who warned you about this saying"I TOLD YOU SO!"Its not that they didnt trust eachother enough,it was just Naraku's tactics on the situation At hand.
InuYasha how ever should have had enough common sense to know Kikyou wouldnt call him hanyou anymore.Not that he didnt trsut her,hes just defensive"touchy" about the word"hanyou"So given the situation,their was still trust after the infamous betrayal.But hell,it just happened.There is still trust and love between the two,because they still forgave each other.

some people say that kikyo is more mature and intelligent than Kagome, well i don't know about intelligent but on maturity i would have to agree but don't forget Kikyo is about 18 while Kagome's only 15 that is a pretty large gap for maturity. anyways Kagome's almost always optamistic she dresses better *wink* not only her normal clothes but i've liked almost all of the other outfits i've seen her in. she accepts that inuyasha loves Kikyo but when she has the chance she never kills her or leaves her for dead like in the episode where they get swallowed by the cave. but Kikyo has tried to kill Kagome before she even admits it o Inuyasha.

Kagome accepted her duty in finding the Shikon shards from the heart but Kikyo, ever since she was assigned to protect it, she had despised the job! meennn... i could go on and on.. Kagome is funny, caring, compassionate, optimistic... and she even helped kikyo, for pete's sake! no matter how many times kikyo had tried to kill her she still helped kikyo to survive.. she puts others first.. mainly, inuyasha! she'd be willing to give inuysha to kikyo just so's he could be happy... that's why i love Kagome!!!!!

uhm, black-sama, no offense, but Inuyasha and Kagome didn't start as friends! If you watch it again, inuyasha wanted to KILL Kagome, ya know... and they hated each other's guts when they first met.. the only way that they became friends is because they traveled together for such a long time now.. and Kagome helped inuyasha to trust and stuff so i think that's one point for her.. i think inuyasha and kikyo just thought they were in love becoz they were lonely and stuff and they needed a companion.. kikyo isn't a bitch but why can't she just accept that she's dead? and why does she keep on saying that it was inuyasha's fault why she died? it was naraku's fault ya know?! so why does inuysha have to die with her? she could just let him kill naraku and leave him alone... besides.. she wants him to DIE! 1.) Shes mean

3.) Her only desire is for Inuyasha to go to hell with her which if you ask me is very selfish!
4.) In the begining she's always trying to get Inuyasha to hell with her.

Kagome is kinder than Kikyo. but she also has her weak spots, like INuyasha saving her all the time, like she couldnt protect herself. but she keeps Inuyasha on a leash all the time.

yup i agree with yuki. first they hated each other, but later on they started to like each other by arguing all the time. and that what makes them soo close. but kikyo on the other hand, wants inuyasha dead since she tried to lure him into hell once. and she stole the jewel shards from them countless times. and that doesnt show love, it just shows that she wants revenge.

Looking at how she sent Naraku to hell in the clip I provide is a lot more different
Kikyou was trying to test how much Kagome meant to InuYasha,did you notice is was going a hella slow?When Kikyou sent Naraku to hell it took less than 5 seconds!Plus Naraku went up in flames,InuYasha was harmlessly being pulled.
I admire how stronged willed Kikyou is,it seems like Kagome just cries InuYasha and bam she's saved.I would like to see her take care of herself,instead of always thinking InuYasha will protect her.
I also cant stand the way she screams InuYasha..its like" GOD STFU!"It makes my ears want to bleed a river.

I myself am Partial to Kagome. Sometimes I feel that Kikyou is too serious I have only seen her laugh twice (and that was out of dystroying pleasure) so that's why I like Kagome.
Kikyou also hits a bad note with me because of jelousy. In the first movie as I bet all of you have seen Kikyou shoves Kagome into the well out of rage. I found that kind of mean and I didn't like her reasons why for doing that. But I guess that added to the drama of the movie. Another reason I kind of don't like her.... SHE GAVE NARAKU THE JEWEL SHARDS! OY VEY!

No as shown when Kagome and Kikyou were trapped in that cave that drains Priestess's energy and power, Kagome wasn't the one the falter it was Kikyou. Kagome's power may be little but it is powerful something that Kikyou may already have but is different.
One on last point of why I like Kagome it's when Naraku was taking Kikyou, Kagome shot Naraku but what did Kikyou do in the end....give him jewel shards. well, really you have to think about! They are both the SAME EXACT PERSON!! Kagome is a simple replica of Kikyo, therfor MAKING her Kikyo! ALSO, Inuyasha love both Kagome & Kikyo, but by truth he loves Kikyo because Kagome IS Kikyo. So If you say Kagome Rocks Kikyo Sucks, you are also saying Kagome Sucks, Kikyo Sucks, or vis. versa! Ok.. I think Kikyo is smart and she can take care of herself and she usually help out villages in need, which makes her better..supposedly. But, she doesnt do the RIGHT things.. I dont think she's ever thought how Inuyasha like Kagome, just how SHE likes Inuyasha. After she died, she never bothered to think: Well, technically Inuyasha didn't kill me so i shouldn't hate and tr to drag him to hell OR give my killer all the jewel shards. i like Kagome the best. even though she's very good, honest, sweet.....she cares about the others.....and even though she got seriously jealous of Kikyou she still always ended up doing the right thing.
