Title: New Demons
Description: advance copy!

Coyote - April 9, 2008 05:33 PM (GMT)
I figured I'd post here and see if and what anyone wanted to know about the upcoming demon army. Our game store has an advanced copy and we've been proxying armies for a couple weeks now. All I have to say is they're on about the same level as vampires :(

Anyway, post any questions you have on the new army and/or rules questions if you also have access to the book, we've already come upon a few things that are frustratingly ambiguous (imagine that!)

Ugh, from the things I've seen in other forums it looks like another poorly done army book.

How does it look as far as theme wise? From what I understood there weren't too many good core choices. I only got to glimpse through the book myself so I probably missed alot.

Are we going to see alot of multi-god armies?

I heard some rumours demons, mortals and beasts won't be able to mix any more.
Now that is a huge change and I'd like to know if it holds any truth.

Also, I was wondering if the mounted daemonettes of Slaanesh still exist. All other demons I knew of I have heard something about, but there hasn't been a single note about these girls.

They are still there, they have M10 and are Fast Cavalry.

I believe they are called "Seekers of Slaanesh" or something similar?

Also yes, it looks like they cannot mix together with Mortals anymore.

ASF and Armor piercing on them too I think. Although I just overheard that, so don't hold me to it.

Yes, the seekers are there. All slaneesh demons have armor piercing. The steeds still have poisoned attacks as well. As far as theme, there is no official theme. There are no restrictions on what demons you can take if you have other demons. In fact throughout the book GW encourages you to mix gods. This is my biggest disappointment with the codex.

Perhaps the worst one though is the first spell in the slaneesh lore is a 4+ cast 18" range target unit is subject to stupidity for the remainder of the game. If you combine this with the masque's ability to remove D3 leadership and a -2 leadership banner that the BSB can take it makes for a ridiculous army. There is a current debate on whether characters in a unit that is affected by this spell are also affected. The current answer is yes.

I don't know if slaanesh can even remain competitive. They always had some trouble getting over high toughness and armour, and I read the daemonette strenght drops even lower from 4 to 3 now. So in the end that armour piercing is just a worse version of the higher strenght.

Now, if you can freely mix gods I guess they'll just throw in some khorne or something...

Mixing gods = silly to me - but that's the way GW wants the army to play, I guess. There's certainly alot of options for a competitive army if you mix, sticking to 1 god might gimp you. Well, except for maybe Tzeentch... 30 power dice is kinda scary.

I don't know Legend, right now slaneesh is looking like the most powerful list of the 4. Basically you can make a unit stupid and lower it's leadership by 5, also affecting any characters attached to it. Since it is not a remains in play spell it is impossible to get rid of. Sure S3 on the daemonettes is lower but they have alot of attacks. Straight up hitting power they lack, but they make up for this by being able to completely chose what combats they want to fight. Most of the army has a base move of 10" and the slower parts have 6" making it the fastest out there.

Oh well, I could indeed be terribly mistaking here... I'm used to my good old 'we sluggish mofo's can't march' tomb king army, so Maybe I just don't know the play style well enough.
