Interesting.
I play D+D and a few years back there was a book called the Dragon Compendium. It contained several areas of interest and chief among them was a 4 page article which basically said what this link confirms.
My gaming club sells Vegas dice but it's 2 for something like $25 US dollars.
Thanks for this link. I will pass it on to several other gamers I know.

Indeed very interesting, 10% difference from the theoretical value, that's huge!

Unfortunately I missed an important part though. English isn't my mother tongue and I don't know what 'pips' are... Anyone can tell me?

No problem!

Pips are the little indentations that they put on the sides of dice to denote the number on a side.

They are those kind of semi circle holes in dice, one pip for each number that you roll, 1 through 6.

I bought several dozen sets of vegas dice (used in actual casino's) off of ebay for like 10 bucks. You can usually find those types of bulk deals. I find that they roll just as poorly for me as any other dice ;)

Thanks Esco. Well I just happen to posses some vegas dice (without pips), we'll give those a try next battle.

From the article:

If you see somebody using games workshop dice for leadership tests and Vegas style dice for everything else, then you can be sure that they are trying to get an unfair advantage though!

Dude! Funny thing is there is this guy in my gaming club that does this! He has these big red clear plastic Vegas style dice and GW style dice. I've never thought anything of it before when playing him, but now that I think of it, he DID roll the GW dice when taking leadership tests and his big old red dice when rolling to hit/wound/take armor saves/etc. I'm gonna call his butt on it next time!

Ok, I may not have gotten the mathematics correct here, someone please help. Is this study saying that the dice used from Vegas rolled "better" than the average dice sold by GW? Better meaning fewer 1's?

If this is correct, is there a specific name brand or type of dice mentioned - or are Vegas dice anything from a casino in Vegas? The only description I got were that the dice ought to be clear.

And whats the pips info talking about? No pips are good... or bad?

This post has me interested as I do roll an unusually high amount of 1's - whether that's just fate or due to this study I'm not sure yet.

Couple of my relatives are headed out to Vegas soon - so I might have them pick me up some casino dice if this is all true.

Edit: Just realized this.. there are a ton of different size dice.. 10 mm to 25 mm (I stopped checking at 25 mm). Does anyone know the most commonly used size in Vegas? I'd guess it'd be 19 mm but I cannot find any information on the internet concerning this. Anyone?

The study says that dice without pips roll more randomly as there is perfect balance within them. The GW style dice are more prone to go towards 1's and 6's.

This is the dice style that is used in casinos. That price is a tad high but I didn't sift through the hundreds of "vegas dice" items.

The_Reckoning - August 25, 2008 07:10 PM (GMT)

And 6s, though.

not to many 6`s, if 1`s reached a 29% 2`s, 3`s, 4`s. 5`s and 6`s must jhave gotten an average of 14.2%
6`s should happen 16.67% of the time.
