Title: Warhammer Fantasy 8th Edition
Description: Rumours of Fact or Fiction

saurus - November 4, 2009 08:02 AM (GMT)
Supposably the are a series of rumours going around about the development of the new WHF 8th edition. The following transcripts are from Warseer and Wargamer AU. It is a bloke called MarkC from WargemerAU commenting on posts from Warseer.
THE FOLLOWING WAS FROM 1 OCTOBER

MarkC (wargamerAU)
On the Warseer forums there is a topic started in the last few days called WFB 8th Edition: whispers of a rumour.

QUOTE(precinctomega)
This is fairly circuitous, I'll be the first to admit. However, a friend of mine works for an arm of the company that does a lot of the printing for Games Workshop's rulebooks and codexes and a colleague in the printing division gave him the heads-up on a big job for 2010 that sounded a lot like a new edition of the main rulebook.

QUOTE(Harry)
It is not just hollow talk.

The work on an army book project starts 2 years out because of the lead times on the plastics.

Books go to the printers about six months out....allowing time for proof copies to be signed off and Global distribution.

If something is at the printers now. It is coming in next summer.

They have already spent the time. We will just be seeing the results of their efforts in 2010.
The results of the time they spend in 2010 will be seen in 2011 and 2012.

MarkC (wargamerAU)
Various posters commenting on a number of Army Books have not been released in 7th edition, and potential problems with out of date Army Books.

QUOTE(Harry)
GW realised this was happening and have since tried to make the army books robust enough to survive revisions of the main rules. The last casualty of this was the Beastmen with the whole five wide ranks thing. However with some of the big changes coming I am not sure they will be the last casualty. It is not that they can not see the impact of changes to the rules it is simply that it is difficult to change anything without it affecting something in one of the army books. And if you want to change things significantly you know there is going to be some knock on effects. But what are you going to do? Nothing stands still. Things are either getting better or they are getting worse. I think they should keep on changing the puzzle. Keeps the game fresh. Changes the balance of power between all the armies again. Bring it on.

MarkC (wargamerAU)
IIRC, Harry is one of the two or three posters on Warseer who consistently are proven correct whenever they make comments on upcoming releases.

THE FOLLOWING WAS FROM 1 NOVEMBER

MarkC (wargamerAU)
There are now rumours of 8th Edition and new starter set on Warseer. There's been a number of posts by Harry and Dosadi

QUOTE(Dosadi)
Not to drop a bomb or anything, but yes, 8th edition will be out next summer with a new boxed set in the fall. I’ve heard Empire vs. Orks in the box with a new O&G book out in Q1 2010. Plastic Empire Knights and Orc Boar boys will be in the new set I’ve heard. They keep one-upping themselves with the box sets so I would expect a mountain of amazing plastics in the new starter set.

QUOTE(Harry)
Sounds about right. (Although opinions vary. biggrin.gif)

Having seen concept sketches for the new Knights and Brians work on the new boars I am fairly excited about these.

MarkC (wargamerAU)
EDIT Dosadi posts later in the thread to correct himself.
He mistakenly typed 2010 when he meant 2011 for the new O&G book.

And then a couple of posts later Harry wrote

QUOTE(Harry)
Dosadi is usually pretty accurate.

EDIT: (Although this is not the only combination of armies in the starter set I have heard).

Also whilst I was expecting more Orcs and Goblins the new book is news to me.

QUOTE(Condottiere)
... that would mean BoC would be the last of the 7th's, and that the next two would probably be Empire and O&G.

QUOTE(Harry)
Errrrrrm, no and no

QUOTE(Dosadi)
I’ll reiterate what I’ve said several times here and elsewhere. Anything outside of 6 months is at best informed speculation. I will back up what Harry has said and can confirm with 99% certainty that O&G and Empire will be the two armies in the 8th edition Starter Set and it will be out in September 2010. The 8Th edition hardcover however will be out in June, after Beastmen who will be the last 7th edition army, but not really 7th edition just as Skaven aren’t really 7th edition.

END OF TRANSCRIPT

Might be an even longer wait for TK if this turns out to have some truth to it. So an 8th Edition around mid 2010, fact or fiction fellas?

Obviously it isn't long enough.

I don't know what everyone is worried about...we're fine...

Seriously though, I'd like some sort of formal word on this matter from GW. If our army is going the way of the Chaos Dwarf I'd rather know now than later. <_<

amentut6 - November 4, 2009 03:39 PM (GMT)
i agree on that
also just so i no for the future are profanitys allowed on this site ?

Horus the Everlasting - November 4, 2009 08:04 PM (GMT)
There is already a thread about this in the rumour forum.

Ehem, I think its actually 7 years (current AB published in Nov 02), making Tomb Kings one of the oldest army books OR Codex currently in print along with Necrons (our 40k counterpart), yep, even older than Beasts of Chaos (Apr 03) AND Dark Eldar which was published in Nov 2003 (assuming Amazon is correct).

I have one more thing to add,

top left corner, in the nav bar immediately under the site banner you will see the words "The King's Laws", click on them

Nabu-Ptah - November 4, 2009 08:07 PM (GMT)
Ooh, that will not do. From the sound of them, I thought the Dark Eldar book was a decade old. I guess it's time for them to put down the cross? :P

amentut6 - November 4, 2009 08:47 PM (GMT)
ok now i'm safe and no to keep my profanitys to my self
