Title: Business of War

Gauntlet101010 - February 19, 2008 06:44 AM (GMT)
Since not everyone's privvy to the event now (and since there's been a HUGE update) feel free to discuss War and tell all the writers how well they're doing.

Or not.

Yeah, it's huge. I don't expect people to read every single bit of it (no dellusions on my part). Just the stories about the characters they're interested in.

Hunter_Chameleon - February 19, 2008 08:59 AM (GMT)
I seem to have a little bug : I've tried on two different computers, and I can't open the Javascript links to the factions' or chronicles' pages. Other links work fine, though.

Gauntlet101010 - February 19, 2008 09:02 AM (GMT)
It works for me ... is javascript enabled on your browser? Which browser are you using?

Hunter_Chameleon - February 19, 2008 09:03 AM (GMT)
Respectively : yes on both, and Firefox on both.

It's strange, as I can open the other Java links (summaries, sigs, robot troopers...)

Gauntlet101010 - February 19, 2008 09:05 AM (GMT)
Oh, Firefox. That thing. I'll see what I can do. It is strange. I remember checkign on FF when I first made 'em and they worked fine.

Gauntlet101010 - February 19, 2008 09:14 AM (GMT)
Fixed. There was an odd bug that only applied to the one page ... I don't know why it exists, but I have to have the Doctype right at the very top. But just for that one page!

Avi - February 19, 2008 07:40 PM (GMT)
I'm glad to see that the public will finally be able to view these stories after all. I'm liking the stage summaries... (I was made fun of and I seriously loved every bit of that! Cracking up so hard XD) I see some characters, like the Androids, have new sprites too!

If you want honest criticism though, I feel Stage 5: Ambush in Nonsteropolis was a little bit too rushed. Though, SD can't be faulted seeing as how he had to work on the whole darn thing by himself under a tight deadline. But still, I think the character deaths could have been made a bit more... intense, so to speak, and a little more dramatic, seeing as how they are apparently removed from the war after that. Unless... we could just make things easy and say that Crorq didn't want to bother repairing them again (despite their minor damages as the summary stated) since, as previous stories have explained, he hates those guys. XD It was too bad I wasn't able to contribute any more due to circumstances. I'm just sorry that Seadragon had to work on that whole thing alone, but I must admire his dedication. Really.

Well, keep it up, everybody!

One question: when, exactly, does BoW end? I've been curious. ^^;

I think it should be done around the end of March or beginning of April, from the looks of things.

I have to complain about how the stages were put up on the site. Stage Five was a major turning point, I think that it shouldn't have been posted at the same time as Stage Four.

And could my ever-changing writing style have been mocked any MORE times than it was? [/sarcasm]

Gauntlet101010 - February 19, 2008 08:12 PM (GMT)
@Avi - Yeah, we noted that. Just consider them to be felled by some very important and very expensive part that just happens to get hit. If you've read stage 6 you'll know it's become something of a moot point.

War's ending soon. Stage 7 is the last real stage. After that comes the ending and the aftermaths.

@MMN - I know what you mean. And it might've given more time to let people catch up. On the other hand ...every stage after 3 is a major turning point. I figured I may as well get EVERYONE caught up and build some anticipation for the end.

I actually do. ^_^

Thanks for all of the updates, G. Can't wait to see how the summaries of Stage Six will turn out - mostly to see how the Stages I took part in are being "mocked". ^_^

Heh, that's good to know. But I do wonder how many of my regular visitors read all of War. There's no way for me to check that.

True that. The summary for Stage Four Scenario D made me crack up, between Avi's exaggerated lines and using completely irrelevant pics for the one-shot characters that weren't created in any artwork. I actually liked the scenario to start with (and I'm not tooting my own horn here); the part about Burstgirl thinking that she could've clogged Saturn's Black Hole with Senator Jorgunsson's butt always made me laugh. (And… what was with the laser cats she brought up when we were planning things? XD)

Also, I've been meaning to make artwork for every scenario that involves at least one CG member, for when we copy-and-past the CG scenarios onto our site; if I ever were to do that, the mugs of Jorgunsson, Wolfland and Spiegel in the Hell Metal Zoo cover may be used to replace those out-of-place pics in the summary.

Raijin - February 19, 2008 11:03 PM (GMT)
Just so everyone knows, I've been writing the Summaries without picking out sprites for them. Gauntlet just picks out whatever sprites are laying around when update time comes. For the most part the images used don't matter to me, though when I saw the Ascendant Android lines attributed to their pre-War sprites, I was compelled to make new ones for them to set up the right atmosphere for them. Also, when Gauntlet replaced Vulcan's mugshot with such a Starman sprite, I demanded he switch it back for the Stage 2 Noir Scenario, since the whole schtick only works when it's two angsty mugshots on a black background monologuing to each other. Having one ansgty dark mugshot and one grinning pillow-shaded sprite just ruins everything.

Most of the time G's substitutions work out better than I could imagine though. Like Ash and Pikachu representing Nox and his summon. Though I think I'd prefer if all the characters had their own real sprites. It's not like I'm going to make all 20 or so myself though.

Gauntlet101010 - February 19, 2008 11:21 PM (GMT)
For a second I was gonna have Nox be represented by Mysterio, but then I made Tempest Pikachu and the whole thing worked itself out from there!

To quote an old internet image macro: "Let me show you my Pokeymans". Needless to say I got a chuckle out of that too.

I love the BoW update. I hope you all enjoy the videos. I will get a Stage 5 trailer done very soon. I finally got the scenes down so keep your eyes peeled to the Mech's video section and my Youtube page.

I seriosuly cannot express how much joy I have experienced making them and watching you all enjoying them.

Expect greatness.

Vulcan - February 21, 2008 11:12 PM (GMT)
Despite all the road bumps that we've hit, the entire project has been tons of fun for me, and although the chances of it happening appear slim, another crossover project someday would be excellent. I'd be all over it in a heartbeat.

Gauntlet101010 - March 17, 2008 05:57 AM (GMT)
TThere's been another update ... the penultimate one, actually. The last of non-MM3 major writing is on the site!

Hunter_Chameleon - March 17, 2008 09:20 AM (GMT)
Very nice job, G and Raijin.

Though, a note : doesn't Quint's rapier give him a place in the swordboys' list ?

EDIT : There is a mistake on Scen E : instead of the regular ending, we got a double chunk of Impacters' fight end.

Cyros - March 17, 2008 11:29 AM (GMT)
Just checking through the lastest update and you've linked the second part of my little side story (Despair and Hope) instead of the third part.

Stage summaries were awesome, even if I was the butt of the joke in Scen. E.

Again. @_@

Good observations. I'll add ya to the list, Quint. I'll get on it, Cyros.

Spark Mandrill - March 17, 2008 02:12 PM (GMT)
Heh. I've been itchin' to see the climax of the War finally added. The summaries were good too. As for Stage 6, Scenario E I guess that's what I get for pestering ya guys 'bout which sprite ya guys are gonna use on Walter. XD

But there are still a few slip-ups in the Sword Boy Section. I see sprites for Elecman and Plantman, but they don't have anything written for 'em.

Raijin - March 17, 2008 06:09 PM (GMT)
...There is no way in hell Quint was missing from that list. I specifically remember adding him. And I even more clearly remember Gauntlet wanting to add him several more times because he kept forgetting about the sword and noticing it for the first time again with each new scenario. Did I delete that entry for some reason?

Mega Man N - March 17, 2008 07:16 PM (GMT)
I'm surprised the summary for Stage Six Scenario F was longer than three or four lines. I think it was one of the most anticlimactic scenarios (and I was one of the ones assigned to write it :̃).

Vulcan - March 17, 2008 07:18 PM (GMT)
I'm disappointed with the Stage 7 summary. I was expecting a reference to the whole Pride mishap. I do appreciate the biting sarcasm though, so it's all good. Still, it doesn't matter how jerkish I was: the results were GOOD.

Yeah, so the point to my rambling is... nyah : p

Gauntlet101010 - March 17, 2008 07:34 PM (GMT)
@ Spark Mandrill - Neither sword was given a name in War. I didn't bother making one up for Elect and I just plumb dunno if Plant's sword has a name.

@ Raj - Editorial mishap? It happens. He's on NOW anyway.

Magnus Riujin - March 18, 2008 04:39 AM (GMT)
Just so you know, Mars only uses Hyper Storm's sword once, so it kinda bugs me that he's on the Sword Guy list.

Also, some of the stage summaries are pretty damn funny. Nice work, Raijin.

Just having a sword means you're on the list.

Edit: After all, that's the point of the thing. Showing who uses a sword, regardless of whatever they always use it or seldom use it.

The War is over!

We won, turns out your the big hero, and we're gonna hold a parade in yer honor. I get the drive the float. An' Simmons here IS IN CHARGE OF CONFETTI!!!

All joking aside, it ended well, and kinda reminds me of how long I've been here, and what has happened.

I was thinking of trying to join in as WildType back when it was in the planning phases. I don't much know how that would have worked out. Looking back, I could have invested the time.

You know what they say, "The saddest words of tongue and pen, must be these, it could have been"

anime master - April 7, 2008 03:05 AM (GMT)
Nice!

On a BoW note, I finished the script for the 6th trailer. This time most of is coming from the intro. I hope to have it done by either the end of this week, or at least next.

Avi - April 7, 2008 03:06 AM (GMT)
Am I correct to assume that there will be summaries for the final stage eventually?

Gauntlet101010 - April 7, 2008 03:08 AM (GMT)
The best summary is is ...

Shadowman: WE WON!

Mesmerman: We lost.

Magnetman: Who am I again?

General Cutman: So much for restarting continuity!

Other than that you'll have to read it. The summeries are just to help readers keep track of what happened.

Cyros - April 7, 2008 03:12 AM (GMT)
I presume Mesmerman is saying "we" as refering to not just him, but the Evil Energy in general (because if you look right into it, that energy is the real villain holding the reigns).

That aside, the War is over! And yes, it was epic. Very epic. This is going to go down in history, one way or another. Heck, maybe Capcom themselves would acknowledge it?

Long shot, but hey. You never know. ^_'

Gauntlet101010 - April 7, 2008 03:20 AM (GMT)
Well, Mesmerman is his entire side....

It's more of a personal reference. In class a long ways back, a teacher (from Europe) asked if anyone could summ up what happened during the cold war. There was silence until I responded with:

Me: We won!

Teacher ... *shruggs* we lost.

Hardman - April 7, 2008 02:18 PM (GMT)
*barely looks up from extensives notes and other writings for other projects*

Oh, yeah... we won. Go us. Woo hoo.

*gets back to work*

Hunter_Chameleon - April 7, 2008 07:16 PM (GMT)
I have to say, much epic happened. And I'm glad and proud I was part of it.

Next time, I'll try to get higher in the ranks. What about Admiral Quint ? ^_^
