Title: Teenager arrested for death threats...

Teenager kid posts a video containg death threads to his former school...
| QUOTE |
Connecticut State Police arrested an 18-year-old on Sunday after he uploaded a clip to the YouTube video-sharing service that allegedly threatened the students of his former school and used a quote from the Naruto manga and anime character Gaara. The suspect, Brandon A. Brown of New London, Connecticut, had been expelled from Grasso Southeastern Technical High School last June. The allegedly threatening video contained a variation on Gaara's trademark line ("The Corpse's Crimson Bitter Tears Will Flow And Mingle Though [sic] The Endless Sand Feeding The Chaos In Me And Making Me Stonger [sic]") and a warning to Grasso students to "Beware All Those Who Cross My Path […] On March 19, 2008 THE END IS HERE.” The video was included in a user channel with two earlier, unrelated Gaara video clips.
After the allegedly threatening video was posted on February 27, another student's parent saw it and complained to police. Brown was then arrested on charges of threatening and breach of peace. He has been released on US$2,500 bail. In response to the situation, Grasso principal Kerry Bell wrote a letter to parents that described the incident.

Heh, now I know why you dont like Naruto things boss...
Akutare - March 5, 2008 03:43 PM (GMT)
However, considering the kid's age and all. I seen mature 19 year olds and all. I guess it has to do with how mature you are?
Floofie - March 5, 2008 03:51 PM (GMT)
I actually loled. xD Wow, that guy watches too much Narutard. Kid got what he deserved, just hope they actually don't keep the poor idiot in jail for like five years over it.
As much as the kid deserved it, it's depressing for someone to lose out on their life. As a family relative of mine has been in jail for a very long time...
But still, I found it very hilarious.

Any amount of Naruto is too much Naruto...

The Naruto kid reminds me of some forum going DBZ kid on a forum eons ago. HE claimed he was a SSJ and said he'd kill people if they pissed him off and such. He'd also would send death threats towards people Via PM and messenger. Just because they didn't have the same view as him.
Seadragon76 - March 5, 2008 07:59 PM (GMT)
Seeing this makes me all the more glad I got over my liking of Naruto.
Don't get wrong, it's a good anime. It just got a little boring.

I don't mind Naruto fans. Some are pretty tame and mature. Some are just raging pyscho-pathes. It's like I use to like DBZ when I was younger. I kinda grew out of my DBZ phase. I'd never acted like that towards someone however.

I agree, and without having to post in-character this time. Naruto became old and repetitive very quickly.
Just from seeing that video and browsing the user's channel, it's glaringly obvious that this person is nothing more than a brain-dead emo piece of shit. I don't have much else to add, however, since Regulus has already had plenty of fun talking about it and has said everything that I would have said.

Well, he accomplished something. And that was to make me laugh and feel sorry for todays generation.

Kid died at like 3:30 today
Gauntlet101010 - March 11, 2008 03:41 AM (GMT)
It's sad that he died. But I can't imagine why he'd want to do that. I was always taght things like "TV shows aren't real, don't try them at home" and it seemed to make good sence to me.
Makenshi - March 11, 2008 03:44 AM (GMT)
Gad, I remember when I was like that when I was 5. Scary too, cuz it almost got me killed because I ended up doing something stupid.
It should be the parents' responsibility to watch their kids and if they can't, then they should at least make sure they can't get near any sort of hazard.
CenetaurmanE52 - March 11, 2008 03:56 AM (GMT)
*Facepalm*
Not that I don't feel sorry for the kid...but honestly, WHY? I know he's ten and all that, but things like that are clearly not very smart to do!

Agreed. Natural selection at work? Maybe. When I was 10 I knew better then to bury my head in the sand and whatnot, but then again my parents wouldn't have let me watch a show with violence at that age.
CenetaurmanE52 - March 11, 2008 04:16 AM (GMT)
Hmph...me and Crashman agree on something. Quite an odd topic o_o
The only thing that can really make this story any sadder (in both ways) is if the family tries to sue the people who made the manga/episode...there's no real purpose to do that.

It also makes me remember the thing where some kid thought he could fly, because he saw it in Pokemon. I don't remember how old the kid was. I know kids do like to imiate things on TV or what they see. Most don't even know the thing between fantasy and the real thing. I can't say I didn't do anything stupid like that. Maybe when I was six and tried to ride on my skateboard down my slide. Though I didn't know any better at that age.
Also it brings back to a kid who claimed he could go SSJ and could fly.
Dynamax - March 11, 2008 05:04 AM (GMT)
It reminds me about the kids who tried to find the Ninja turtles in the sewers....there will always be kids this foolish it seems. It's sad....but stupid at the same time.
Corvid - March 11, 2008 06:09 AM (GMT)
It's sad the kid died but i just don't under stand how anyone could think burying themselves was a good idea regardless of their age.
Mahajarah - March 12, 2008 04:49 PM (GMT)
Maha's mathmatical Idiotcy Chart.
Youth + Parents who don't care + Ignorance + T.V. = Tragedy
This ussualy leads to...
Tradegy + Parent's who don't care - Common sense + Money = Lawsuit
Lawsuit - Common sense - Veiwer ratings = Pulled show
Thank you, parent's of the 00's. Your willingness to sit your kids down in front of a T.V. and not explain to them that this isn't real, or your willingess, or lack of, to explain ANYTHING to them has yet taken another life, and will probably lead to more idiotcy.

There was a kid who was lookin' for Bikini Bottom also. I think he drowned or something.
I remember when Power Ragers were out, kids did what they did.

*shakes head*
I feel very sad for today's youths and very disappointed in them at the same time. It's sad to hear that they are subjected to this stuff, and disappointing to know they'll let themselves be brainwashed by it..
Shoot. I remember watching Tom and Jerry when I was younger, but I'd never chase after my brother with knives or mallets. Even if, at times, I'd want to.
All this is really just telling me that the world's future isn't exactly bright.
:\

This reminds me of several similar media-influenced incidents that I'd read about in Sociology sometime ago. I still have the sheet somewhere… *Finds and quotes it*

May 1999: A 7-year-old boy in North Dalla, Texas accidentally killed his 3-year-old brother after imitating a pro wrestling move he saw on television. When interviewed by authorities, the boy demonstrated what had happened by running toward a doll about the same size as his brother and suddenly striking its neck, knocking it backwards. He also talked about his favorite wrestling stars, Stone Cold Steve Austin and the Undertaker.
May 1999: 15-year-old T.J. Solomon was charged in the shooting of six classmates at his Georgia high school. Authorities found a letter under his bed expressing admiration for the two teenagers who killed 12 students, a teacher and themselves in a highly publicized Columbine High School shooting in Littleton, Colorado, a month earlier. Along with the letter, FBI agents found instructions on bomb building taken from the Internet. Classmates testified at the hearing that Solomon had bragged that he could do a better job than the Columbine High School shooters.
January 1999: Two Florida teenagers repeatedly raped their 8-year-old half-sister after allegedly watching an episode about incest on The Jerry Springer Show. A detective asked the boys where they learned to abuse their sisters and the older boy responded, "I learned it on The Jerry Springer Show." The show's publicist issued a statement saying, "We've never had a show that is remotely close to this situation and, unfortunately, there are situations in this world for which we are blamed."
May 1998: In Ocean City, Maryland, 12-year-old Darron Lawrence Green committed suicide and left a note citing South Park as a reason why he killed himself. He mentioned a character named Kenny, a small boy who dies violently in every South Park episode. The boy did not show any signs of depression before the act.
In the same year, 11-year-old Bryce Kilduff hung himself. Police suspected that it was an accident and that he was trying to imitate the character Kenny on South Park. His mother reported that the day before his death, her son was imitating the character and his friends said, "Well, if you're Kenny, then you have to die." He responded by saying, "That's OK, I'll be back next week." Bryce also drew pictures of the characters and based their portrayal on his classmates' stories, since his mother forbade him to watch the show. After his death, police found a picture drawn by Bryce depicting a character hanging himself.
…
January 1998: 14-year-old Michael Swailed committed suicide by lying down in front of a speeding train. The boy was carrying a notebook with suicide instructions he downloaded from a Duke University student's website. Chris Economakis defended his Web site [sic], which outlines forty suicide methods, by claiming it was put up "for entertainment purposes only." After briefly removing the web site [sic], he put it back online 24 hours later with no changes.
…
July 1997: Christopher Duffner, a 26-year-old Kentucky man, hijacked a bus and put a knife to the driver's throat. The perpetrator ranted about the movie Speed during the hijacking.
1987: After watching Jason (the star of the violent movie "Friday the 13th: Part III") hang himself, an 11-year-old Madison, Wisconsin boy hanged himself by the neck with his belt until he died.
1985: After a 13-year-old Mountain, Michigan boy saw a similar act in Arnold Schwarzenegger's movie "The Terminator," he assembled a pipe bomb, which detonated prematurely and killed him. |
In a nutshell, the ability to distinguish fact from fiction and smart move from stupid choice is vital. I can't tell whether to shake my head at all this, feel sorry for those who died, or be grateful that they died before they could reproduce.

It's a life skill that, sadly, not all have the chance to develop.
It's sad to see and hear about all this. Really, it is.
And I feel the same way. Its a bitter mix of confusing, and startling feelings for me.

That's not as funny, but that falls under the kid burying himself in sand to mimic naruto catagory.
Tragedy that could have easily been avoided, but didn't.
STARZ - March 21, 2008 11:03 PM (GMT)
I'm a youth, and I'm of this era..but I wouldn't go doing something THAT stupid. The dumbest thing I've ever done happened when I was 1 or 2.
I watch things like Naruto, Death Note, Hellsing, Excel Saga, etc. etc.etc.etc. And Iplay Guilty Gear, and I've watched my brother play a little bit of Van Helsing, but we don't imitate the games, unless we're play-fighting with fake weapons and stuff, so no one can get hurt.
I'm the biggest Otaku ever, and I know the borderline between reality and fiction..
Because my parents taught me well.
Besides, most of the stuff I watch and play is completely irrational, so there's no way I could imitate it without
1.spending a lot of money
2.Learning how to use various fighting styles and various weapons in the time period of about a week.
Okay, there was that one time I jumped off my swing and rolled down the hill...
Akutare - March 22, 2008 12:21 AM (GMT)
I wouldn't call yourself an Otaku, Starz.
It's mostly matureness is the cause. We all have done stupid things as a kid. I.E the Swing thing, Skateboard down a slide and even thinking we could fly.
STARZ - March 22, 2008 12:45 AM (GMT)
..You..You mean I can't fly? All I need is a big umbrella! Or be able to manipulate my hair into wings.
I'm an Otaku for the weird, non-imitatable things. For example...I can't fall out of an apartment building, make a huge crater and pop up back alive again..though I wish I could.
