Title: First time in the Megaman Community
Description: What was yours like?
Lord Derg - April 9, 2008 12:13 AM (GMT)
(Im just trying to start a conversation here, people!)
I first saw a Megaman team when my friend saw a site called "The Sinister Six" which was the megaman 1 team. I never understood all the ideas (role playing, team changing) but either way, it made me laugh. I then started reading the Mechanical Maniacs epilogues, and I also started seeing The Buisnesss Of War, which of course had many other teams involved.
At which point I saw each and every team involved, and thought it was neat.
I loved the easy-to-read, easy-to-maker (im a author-to-be, so its EASIER to make, anyways!) and just plain fun. I loved the fiction and cameos.
So after a while of lurking, I started my own team, called "The Dimensional Destroyers" centered around the often forgotten R&F ws game.
But this is not for advertising. I just want to know how YOU became involved in MM teams and how you first stumbled upon them.
EDIT: Wow. I just forgot, I had apparently stumbled upon Final Destination Pixelation LOONG before reading the s6 epilogues. Weeird.
Mahajarah - April 9, 2008 12:39 AM (GMT)
My first time was WAYYY Back in mechanical maniac's Season 4.
I was in eigth grade when I stumbled upon the mechanical maniacs.
I was looking for sprites when I stumbled upon The now slightly outdated, but still very trustworthy spriting tutorial made by gauntlet. Over the course of a few months, I read their epilouge, poured my heart out trying to find the secret page, which I never did, and I finnaly joined in under the guise of Alucard.EXE, me being a huge castlevania fan along with megaman.
I fell out of the community for the course of 6 years, and here I am today.
dna446 - April 9, 2008 12:55 AM (GMT)
I dont remember exactly when but I think I was in 7 or 8th grade when I stumbled on the mechs site. I think I was bored as usual and looking up the word Megaman, anyway, since I like reading, and I saw that ep meant stories ( I didn’t know what back then) I started reading them. I got hooked and read them all, then went to other team sites like the SS and the CC. only about a year later I realized there was a MM forum and I went to look. I then spent several months just reading post, with ought having the courage to make a account. then I made a account, started RP, applied for a couple of spots, and here I am, still not know but still happy cause I'm finally acting, not just watching ^_^
( I know, its long, basicly, I ended up on the mechs site by accident, later saw the forum, then later joined ^_^)
Pharon - April 9, 2008 01:08 AM (GMT)
I first came by when The S6's season three only had the one epilouge.
Fenix - April 9, 2008 01:11 AM (GMT)
Having been desolated from the real yet expensive stuff (games, trading cards, Adidas socks), I was able to buy more games then I've probably bought in my whole life, one of which being Megaman Battle Network 3 (first Megaman game I was serious about). In seventh grade I believe, I had just moved back to America, and one of my new friends was absolutely obsessed with everything Megaman related. Of course, this meant he already knew about the team scene, and one of the things he loved to talk about was the S6 and Mechanical Maniac eps. Once he found out that I really like the BN series, he said, "I'm making a team!" When he asked me to join, I probably said something along the lines of "Ya shure, wutever." So inevitably he told me about the Undernet, and I joined.
Anyone have a guess on who this mysterious friend is?
Hint: MMBN 6 team. Newer people probably won't know.
Avi - April 9, 2008 01:12 AM (GMT)
Naoshi bribed me with candy to come here. Speaking of which, it's been almost two years, and I STILL DON'T HAVE MY CANDY. >:(
But yeah, I was introduced to the Wily's Warriors Summer of '06, and I became a fan, eventually getting to know the rest of the team (I already knew Naoshi and Iga) through the forums and their now-dead chatroom. Otherwise, I stayed relatively quiet in the community, not really making myself known on the Undernet until early '07. This was because I was bribed with candy to join the Drastic Measures (again, I STILL DON'T SEE ANY CANDY, DO YOU?!) So, I took a week or so to look over the team, to decide if it was worth joining. After much thought... here I am.

Let me put it to you this way:
Some people adjust right away to the community, some don't.
It's whether or not you are willing to learn if you will ever be accepted, or if you want to stay here.
I'm going to say it right now: Yeah, I was definitely one of the people who didn't adjust right away. I'd probably go as far to say that most people, if not everyone, hated me, and I'm sure some people still might dislike me, although hopefully not "hate" anymore (I'd like to think I've matured a little of 3 years...) But you can't really mention an00bis around here anymore without people going "Yeah, I hated that guy."
But really, people are just a little uneasy because you're really, really new to the community and are going against all of their suggestions to not start a team. Even knowing it's possible for someone to start and maintain a team after shortly joining, although usually not right after.
And CC hated me to. Probably still does.

IT'S PROTOMAN! Or something like that.
And I should probably mention how I came to find the MM teams.
When I was in 4th/5th grade, when looking for sprites for the Games Factory (anyone remember this thing?) my brother found Gauntlet's Sigma sprites. The game never went anywhere, and me and him kept coming back to the site. He eventually stopped, after giving up at finding the secret page, but I thought the Megaman Team "thing" was interesting. I, too, eventually stopped, and came back at around 7th grade, and became Pharaohman with hopes of starting a MM4 team, without even knowning about the Comrades until I posted my idea. Some people thought I was being hostile, and I was naive to the Xtreme Team incident at the time. I asked if duplicate teams were allowed, and pissed some people off a little bit, mainly because I was a new member they thought was trying to do something wrong. ((Keep in mind, this was shortly before the team list and rules were posted, which now no longer exist. I'm sure that's caused you some confusion as well.)) Then I became an00bis, and we all know that story, which is one I'd like to foreget.
Hopefully that's helped.

Aaaah... long lost memories. Haha.
Waaaaaaaay back in... January? of 2004, I was looking up some stuff on MegaMan, as I had heard of it (via the Ruby Spears TV shower and Legends), but had never seen the classic games, and I was reading Bob and George. In doing so, I stumbled across this strange website called "The Sinister Six".
I dug through there, and read just about everything there was to read, saw everything there was to see, and adopted a couple of dixies for my then LiveJournal. And then I found a link to... it was either the forum itself, or the Mechanical Maniacs site and THEN the forum. But, yeah.
Man... crazy to think that it's been that long. O-o;
Elecman - April 9, 2008 01:35 AM (GMT)
I'd have to truthfully say that my "real" experience with the community had started Novermber of last year, with my joining the undernet forums. Thanks, of course, to Akutare.
Though I'd been lurking Alpha Movement before then.
CenetaurmanE52 - April 9, 2008 01:38 AM (GMT)
I was looking up a Freezeman picture for a flash I was making (which got canceled) and got a link to the Undernet. I red the stories, loved them, and three weeks later, joined the Undernet as the guy you all know and hate.
Starnik - April 9, 2008 01:40 AM (GMT)
Well, if we're talking about just the Megaman community in general, I was first thrust onto the scene at the ol' Mechadrake forums, centered around Red Draco (a Mega Man X fanfic author of some note, wrote the popular Zero Tolerance and Bass Is Not A Fish). That woulda been... around 1996, I believe?
I can't remember when I came across the Mega Man Teams, but I do know that I never would have even heard about them if it hadn't been for Gauntlet coming to the Mechadrake forums for a brief stint. In one topic he mentioned he was looking for a new Gemini Man, and so I went to his website to see what all the hubbub was about. I was instantly hooked on his eps, as they had a light-hearted humor to them, while still maintaining an overall storyarc with dramatic and action bits sprinkled in perfectly. I posted that I was interested in the position, but because I didn't ask him directly (I just replied to his post at the Mechadrake forum) I lost out my chance of being considered. I started hanging around the forums, though, and got to know a few people in the community. Eventually I got a position on the Robotic Raiders as Aqua Man which lasted for... a year, I believe. The team remained on life support for a long time, and then Captain Crashman started recruiting for a new MM2 team, the Wily's Warriors. The rest, as they say, is history.
Makenshi - April 9, 2008 01:45 AM (GMT)
Let's see, I think I was 11 when I came here.
1) Looked for Megaman fan games and came across Strider's Megaman Domain, which was affiliated with the Mechs. Looked at the team scene, thought it was cool, and immediately started an X5 team and joined the Ascendant Androids. Wrote epilogues that shall burn forever in the fiery depths of hell.
2) Constantly embarrassed myself in the community.
3) ????
4) PRESENT DAY
Chaos Wolf - April 9, 2008 02:25 AM (GMT)
Woo boy, this is going to end up looking like whole lot of nothing.
Back in well, early, I stumbled across the Sinister Six. I was there since Ira and the others were on the team. I started following the Maniac's adventures(Fun fact, I was the "anonymous" spriter who sprited that version of Geminiman.Exe). and when the Sinister Six reset, I assumed it would fail. Much later, Rich came up with the "Create a Villain" contest. My greed combined with one of my classes that year caused me to come up with WildType.
Fastforward again to "BoW", By then I had watched the community long enough to know who was who, and I entered the fray as "Chaos Wolf". (I always choose Chaos Wolf or "Chaos Colonel" if the former is taken.)
Akutare - April 9, 2008 02:26 AM (GMT)
My first time?
Back in 2001 when I joined the Tech Tyrants.
Gauntlet101010 - April 9, 2008 02:30 AM (GMT)
Well, everything was different when I joined the community.
The S6 had it's Season 1 going on. It also had it's own forum, on Senac (text-based forum, for those not in the know). And some of those guys hung out at Groovy Kat's page (which I lurked at). I liekd it so I posted some.
I got to know Ice (had a few rare manga scans) a bit and actually wanted to join Cossack's Creations as Pharaohman when it first started. Then Skullman (Kirk) started a MM3 team. Initially I wanted Magnetman, but that was taken. Doc Robot was off limits. So, I joined as Shadowman.
Well, the S6 Senac forum became Cutman's (Jason's, the first S6 Cuts) EZboard forum, and after that tanked Ice just came over to my own place and I have been here ever since.
anime master - April 9, 2008 02:39 AM (GMT)
Waaaay back in 2002, Jersey got hit with a big ass snow storm. It was about four feet. Thus, I could not go outside. At the time I was only a member on one forum: Dragonball toys, which I joined soely to view some DBZ Buu toys. Well with the internet I had often enjoyed looking at sprites for games. I recall one of my favorite websites was some Megaman walkthrough that had the boss sprite. So awesome! So I stumbled around and discovered the Maniacs. It was the first epilogue of Season 4. However, I didnt give two shits about epilogues. All I cared about was the glorious Nintendo Power images.
It was a months later that I actually read epilogues. I do believe the one epilogue that got me hooked was the Add on Adam West Batman one. I reread them all. I laughed so hard. That itself led to the S6 epilogues.
Then I discovered the magical device that was the Mech Manaics Forum (Which is still there. Good times.) I signed up under the crappiest name ever: SSJ Gauntlet. I was shocked to learn that Gauntlet was actually there. It was then I changed my name. The origin of the name was that on DBT I wanted to change my name from Android20 to Anime Freak (I had a message board too. Some of you might remember it. Dont go looking for it. It's lost in time. Last time I was there all it was was a single guy spamming pics of ...well unpleasant things.) However, the username was taken so I settled on ANIME MASTER. And a month later, a man who called himself Shadowyguy started asking for applicants for his MM4 team: the Cossacks Comrades. I had really wanted to be Metal Man, but I figured Drill was the coolest looking next to Pharaoh, but Sergal took that spot.
If not for the fact the name AM stuck to here and Arlong Park (And also New Pork City, which is a...sister forum to AP), I would probably change my name to Drillmaster, or just flat out Drill. But then, I just wouldnt be the same.
Fin.
Cyros - April 9, 2008 02:40 AM (GMT)
You want to know how I ended up here?
Blame Starnik.
Want a longer version? I'll present it in a list:
1.) Found Starnik's old site "Starnik's Station," was introduced to Bob and George and other webcomics this way (Summer 2001)
2.) Eventually learned of the Megaman Teams from the same site (old Robotic Raiders Valentine card). I think I found the Maniac's site first.
3.) Floofie (Johnny) forms X's Gladiators; I decided to try it out. Short but sweet.
4.) Tried making my own team; Maverick Hunter Unit X. Fairly successful; died after several months. Also got Sparks into the community this way.
5.) Got a position on Annihilation. Didn't do much, but it was fun.
6.) Finally joined the Proboards/ whatever was around at the time.
7.) Starnik announced closing of the Warriors. People said "NUU!" He recruited members. Competed against Jade for the position. I won. =3
8.) Jade asks me to join Alpha Movement. I think on it; I accept.
And the rest, as they say, is history.
Want a longer version? No dice this time, guys.
But yes, if you want to find a route of all my here-ness...
Blame Starnik.
*EDIT* Oh, as for my name? My identity which I created on the Bob and George forums. It's been my cyberspace handle ever since.
*EDIT2* Yeah, fixed the list a bit.
Proto Stryker - April 9, 2008 02:47 AM (GMT)
I think I was drugged. I don't remember how, when, or where I ended up here. Not to mention why. Suddenly a few years pass and I'm still here. I don't think Crys-chan was stalking me at the time, so it wasn't her.
Actually, though, it was probably due to my discovery of PMM. The MM3 was an affiliate so I checked it out, realized that Hardman's comics were some of the better comics I'd seen back then, and began keeping an eye on it. After awhile, I got tired of the PMM forums (who can blame me) and decided to suck it up and join the MM3 forums. That led to random bouts of going between boards and generally sticking to this one from then on.
It kind of helped that I eventually joined the Ascendant Androids I suppose.
Spark Mandrill - April 9, 2008 02:59 AM (GMT)
It's all Cyro's fault. The man needed a Spark Mandrill for MHUX, his MMX team back in 2003. By then, I've been scoping out sites like the Sinister Six and the Mechanical Maniacs, and I was rarin' to get in on this action. And I Spark Mandrill was pretty much the slot I woulda wanted in the first place. But yeah, I think we all can guess what happened to MHUX. But I still slithered on into the Mech's proboard forum, where I slowly, but surely built a respectable, if not persistent name for myself. From there, I was able to work my way through the team scene in this here order:
-Shadowyguy, the guy who founded Cossack's Comrades, started Darklight Mercenaries and I pounced on Sparkman.exe like a lion on meat.
-AM asked me to be Diveman #2 after #1 disappeared into thin air.
-Rich started up Alpha Movement, I was more than happy to retake my old title.
-Gary and Rich thought it'd be a swell idea to make me the fourth and last Elecman.
-Vulcan thought it'd be a swell idea to make me Captain Napalmman.
I was also oh-so briefly Avalanche Yeti for a phantom Mega Man X8 team Ben wanted to start up, but that doesn't quite count. In short, go me.
And if Starnik got Cyros in on this, I guess you can blame him for me too. That's two strikes, buddy. XD
And Gauntlet, don't ya mean Cossack's Creations? The Comrades aren't that old.
Naop - April 9, 2008 03:52 AM (GMT)
Let's see.... this is a rough estimate and summary:
- When I was 6 (LOL), I discovered MegaMan X. My favorite game of all times, I think. I followed the series.
- My interest in MegaMan X decreased for a while, after the SNES (I never owned a PS1).
- Around 1998, I got interested in the original series, when I got my first computer and my first emulator. The first original series game I played (strangely) was Rockman & Forte. It came with the emulator (ZNES), along with MM7. I loved R&F, but before I could do anything else, life became a bitch, I got out of my mother's house and came live to Mexico City in 1999.
- 1999, with a little more piece of mind, and an increasing internet adiction, I found IRA's website, Fireman Lives. Being a fellow Latin American, the guy became an idol of mine (that happened often, you'll see).
- So I learned IRA was part of these "Sinister Six" dudes. Around the beginning of 2000, I started frequenting their site, as well as the other teams.
- I contacted some team leaders, who had also became my idols (duh!). I contacted Gary, and a guy called CJ the Mech's leader. I don't remember why I thought CJ was still the leader, maybe I was stupid back then, or maybe the site still stated so, but he explained that Gaunts was now calling the shots. Dunno why, but I ended up leaving it at that and befriending CJ instead. XD
- CJ got me into writing, and RPing for that matter, when he invited me to resurect "Maverick Hunters: The Technology Wars", the very first Megaman based ORPG (honest!).
- After about a year of RPing and idolizing teams, oh, and learning html... I finally decided to make my own team, converting the old site I made to archive the Tech War's happenings.
- So in 2001, the TT were born. Then went on hiatus. Then revived. Then went on hiatus again. Then revived again, and so on.
- Finally, I took a 3 year break from the internet when I emancipated, at age 17. (I was poor, didn't have money for any internet provider, but don't rub it in, haha).
- And then, after gaining a somewhat stable situation in real life, here you have me. Reviving the TT again.

Cobra_Omega - April 9, 2008 04:12 AM (GMT)
I do not remember everything about how I got into the community, but I'll try to explain it the best I can...
It all started about 2-3 years ago. Back when I was in 5th grade. I was a total n00b at sprite comics, but I always liked to find sprites for projects, and then I found Sprites Inc. one day and noticed a link to the Mechanical Maniacs' main site. I wasn't interested in the epilouges at first, seeing as I didn't get the point of it. So I stopped going to the site. Then a few months later I found the place again, and started becoming more interested in the site. I read the MM3 walkthrough, and looked at all of the sprites, then I got bored again and left. One year later I come back to the site again, this time I actually start reading the epilouges, and I liked them, and I kept reading the same stuff for about a few months. Then later I become curious about the forum (which I think was the one before this one, I don't know) I joined under the name of "kkcobra2" and I don't think I ever posted, I left the site again for another 2 years. Then comes October of 2007. I found the site again, saw a whole bunch of new epilouges, read them all, and then decided to check on the forum to see how it was doing. When I found out that the forum got changed I joined this forum, and about a few weeks later, that whole MMZ3 thing got started...
And that's how it went...Well at least I thought it went that way (Pretty long eh?)

EDIT : Might precise my first (and only for a while) contact with the Blue bomber was MMX1. Good game.
Well, I arrived for the first time at the Maniacs' previous layout (just before the 8-bit one) (from the MMHP, methinks) and ... forgot about it quickly after.
Then, I came back on the 8-bit layout, and started looking for a way to open the Secret Page. Which led me to join the board because I wanted some hints on it.
Then, there was the switch to MMC, where I created/recruited the 7M. Then, previous Undernet, where I was recruited in DI, and current Undernet, with the War and my arrival in CC.
Well, that's all I have to say.
Vulcan - April 9, 2008 11:38 AM (GMT)
Well, here's what I can remember...
I watched the Ruby Spears cartoon a lot when I was younger. Years passed after its cancellation and the thing was nothing but a memory. Then I bought Megaman Legends and X4. I was confused, having no concept of the continuity involved, and I royally sucked at the games.
Naturally, I went to GameFAQs for help. Then I did a Google search for Megaman. I wound up browsing a site called Bob & George, which is nowadays nothing more than a relic that's been imitated and exploited to the point of irritation. Still, way back in the day it was still new and Wily Beer was like, the greatest idea EVER. Thank god those days are done with.
Anyway, from there I moved on, totally immersed by the enormous cult following the blue boy had, apparently, always had. I mean, god damn... I was always alone in my affinity for the old cartoon, so it was pretty awesome to learn that people loved the franchise just as much, if not more than myself.
Lurking, browsing... I've always liked to watch people. You can learn so much from observations alone. Fan fiction was a new concept to me, but it was exactly the kind of stuff I was always doing with my action figures, so there was a familiarity to the whole thing. I never took an interest, though. Not until Andrew Dickman released Rockman NEO.
I'm not gonna lie, that was a pretty radical concept. I was dying to see if he had more going on than just a stylish clip, so I scoured the internet for something else. I came across the script for a fan game he had planned, and it blew me the fuck out of the water. I had never envisioned Megaman in such a dark, nihilistic setting. X4 gave me a taste of those possibilities, but Dickman's NEO took it to the extreme.
So, with a devilish inspiration I began rooting around for fan fiction that could match or surpass NEO. Never found it. But I did happen across the Mechanical Maniacs after deciding to check out Planet Megaman's affiliates.
Lurkage began at the old MM3 Proboard, and I was captivated by this complex system of "Epilogues" and "Teams" and it proved to be a very fruitful activity. The Mechs, and thier brother site, the Sinister Six provided a mess of obscure and creative content that never ceased to amaze me.
Eventually, the Proboard became private. Enduring my ever-declining peace of mind at home became too much, so on October 14, 2004, I did the unthinkable and dropped the lurker persona. In need of an escape, I jumped head first into the MM3 forums so that I could read people's posts. But, since I was finally there, why not say hello and make friends?
I have Asperger's Syndrome. I was professionally diagnosed early on in life, so unlike a majority of people, I don't just "suspect" that I have it. I was going to a therapeutic school at the time I joined, and I was very socially inexperienced and awkward. I was a quick learner though, and netiquette was etched into my retina. I felt nervous, but ultimately confident that I could get by, learning from my observations.
There's no lying involved in this post: I was a real newbie for the most part. But, going by what people have said about me at the time, I was generally likable since I had the desire to learn from my mistakes. Needless to say, I think I got along well with people. I was naive and I made mistakes, but its been worth it. I like to think that I'm a better person now that I've had experience dealing with other people, albeit through an avatar.
Despite my time on the forum, I never saw the appeal in joining a team. If I was going to do it, I had to be sure that I was gonna deal with people I liked and that I took an avatar I could respect. Once upon a time, Rich began Alpha Movement and since he was leading, promising a more dramatic turn of storytelling, why not join as my favorite Maverick, Storm Eagle?
Things didn't really go anywhere, and after Rich left, I was in limbo. Then Crys asked me if I wanted to reform the Ascendant Androids with her. I always believed in focusing my efforts very singular, so I was hesitant at first, but since she was handpicking guys who I already knew, I didn't have much to lose.
I abruptly left my position as Storm Eagle when I joined as Starman. I still like the turkey, but when I joined the Androids, it turned out that Crys encouraged me into giving a lot of creative input, regardless of how retarded my ideas were. Because I finally had a suitable outlet, I never regretted my decision. Eventually, I became leader, and here we are now... a bunch of homicidal maniacs and one six foot tall Road Warrior reject. It's amazing where life takes you.

I was about 3 or 4 when I first saw MegaMan. Dude, you should have seen me try to get through the lazers in QuickMan's stage! Frustrating little sunnuva bi-atches... Still, I loved the game. And then, maybe about six years later, my brother bought the MM Anniversary Collection. I liked it, and I played it whenever I could. And this should make the Mechs happy: First game I'd beaten was MM3.
When I was using my mom's computer, I googled MegaMan to see what I would find. First thing that popped up was the Mechanical Maniacs site. I clicked on it by mistake. And if it wasn't for that mistake, I wouldn't be at this site today, I wouldn't know true humor and all things funny, and I'd be the most bored kid on the planet. Well, maybe not the most bored, but close to that.
Now back then, before I made my little "mistake", my favorite MM3 Robot masters were ShadowMan, SnakeMan, and GeminiMan. After I read some epilogues, I learned to like ALL of them. I always thought GutsMan was a gloryhog for being in many of the classic games. But now I think he's actually a misunderstood country singer (I liked the old S6 team... So sue me).
Yeah, that's how pathetic I am. But I shouldn't think of it as pathetic, I should think of it as being accepted by people I like.

Be more techinical...
I got into Megaman eons ago. Back when he first appeared on the NES. My first Megaman game was Megaman 2. HOWEVER! My first tatse of Megaman was the one in Captain N.
