Title: I don't care much for the EXE series...
Description: Is that a bad thing, eh?
Akutare - April 18, 2008 11:46 PM (GMT)
I dunno if I should say this.
Sorry to any hard core EXE/Battle Network fans.
However, I do not like the EXE series very much. I don't hate the series. I did enjoy the games like Battle Network 1, 2 and 3. I liked some of Battle Network 5 aswell. Battle Network 2 is my favourite of the series. I didn't like BN 4 or BN6. Battle Network 6 seemed to be extreamly easy for me.
I don't care much for the TV show, either. I have seen Season 1, 2, Axess, Stream, Beast and Beast +. I did like some of the episodes with certain characters, but that's about it. I can't stand Rush.exe for some reason. I hate him.
I also never liked the heros in the game and anime, either. I still enjoyed the games, though. Maybe I just thought the damaned hero was pretty annoying, as well for Megaman himself. I dunno. Maybe I am splittin' hairs here.
I did like some of EXE's concepts such as Soul Unison and styles.
With Star Force around, I did accept it. At first I was skeptical with it. Then I tried it and liked it.
I dunno. I still like the three older ones. I did enjoy Network Transmission. I just could never get into EXE's concept.
In an odd point, I did kinda like 4.5.

I like EXE, but my favorite is Classic. And X at some times.
I mean, I never really did understand the point of the human/internet connections. And the whole Saito/RockMan.EXE thing was so confusing.
Any episode that had Hinoken and/or FireMan.EXE and HeatMan.EXE was godly. Especially the ones mainly about them!
Now, I know I'm saying things like this, and I'm a part of a Battle Network team, as is Aku. But, I think that classic is the best, and I shall end that here. *nods*

I liked the first three as I said. I perfered Team Colonel over Team Protoman.
Six lost my intrest.

One was good but too short. Two was good. By three I had lost interest. I guess that pretty much sums up my involvement in that series, I just didn't have the energy to invest in multiple RPGs that were all fairly similar to each other. RPGs take a lot out of me as it is, so when I feel like I've played them before they start to wear on me. Same thing happened with the new Pokémon game.
Network Transmission was alright, but the first three levels were ridiculously hard and after you pass those it gets ridiculously easy. Not a very balanced game.

I liked the first on. The concept was amazing, at least in my eyes, but it lacked a little something. That little something? Style Changes. Battle Network 2 was possibly the best in the series. 3 started to trail off in my opinion. It was still fun and the game itself was grade-A, but the final battle was a bit rough for my tastes compared to the others. 4... let's not go there, I'd really rather not talk about that one. As for the fifth one, things finally picked up and got going again - Liberations were fun, to me. I still have not had the nerve to pick up the sixth one after the things I've heard about it.
Network Transmission was horrible. Terrible gameplay, lackluster music, insane difficulty, and not even worth playing past the first few levels.
The series? Good. One of my favorites even. Half of the games? Not worth it. At all.
Akutare - April 19, 2008 04:16 AM (GMT)
I liked BN 2 alot. BN5's liberations were fun also. It also had my most hated Mini game. The Kendo part...
I wanted ot kill things with that mini game of death.

Well, I'm not a pretty big fan of the series, the anime (kinda) threw it off. the only gripe is that the optional bosses (Shark and Wood) was major in the anime and Wood got to reappear in 4 since then. The Anime's 1st season kinda threw the games off with random junk. Sal's and Colonel's designs I liked best. Lan's kinda the clehce' hero and for Mayl, pretty average heroine if you ask me, doesn't play as big as a role as Sonia Strumm. to me, 4 threw the whole series off and became another Gaiden. some personalities were pretty generic too. >.>
In other words, it's a so-so series. X was good until he got whiny. Classic was good, and still is. I liked Lengends and SF as well, ZX and Zero are pretty much Shoe-ins for the X series. but then again, it attracted a lot of fanboys.
The Anime was kinda confusing to me, because some events never happened. first off, since when Robotic Marine life started attacking everyone? even characters in the anime never existed in the games at all. I liked the Liberations too. they were fun. that Kendo minigame was like DDR with a D-pad. The Two in one port of BN5 was a nice touch. Transmission felt like a Shoe in to me. game was pretty damn hard. overall, I like the EXE series, but not a lot.

Oh god, the Kendo minigame...
That stopped me from completing Protoman version. I was only lucky to beat that minigame in Colonel version.

I tried to like the Battle Network games, I really did. But I just could not get into them. I don't have an excuse why, it just couldn't hold my interest as much as the other series, I guess.

Uh... No ZX and Zero had alot of fans of the Classic and X series play them. Not too mention. If I stand correctly, Zero and ZX are part of the canon time line. I could be wrong. I don't see how it's a "shoe in".
The EXE anime is not canon and really has no connections to the video games. Alot of the characters were pretty generic. Like Lan himself. The others had some personailty.
I will admit, I do like BN5: Team Colonel, due to the liberations. Those were the fun part. I'd like BN6 more if it wasn't so easy. It seemed to make you use Beast outs all the time. I rarely used Beast outs. The mini games between the characters were okay. Not as good at the liberation missions.

The only problem I had with the series was the fact that all of the girls in the series were completely helpless and rather stereotypical. I mean, come on..even I could've fought my way out of a Shademan attack...or bubbles...or a school fire..

I'm afraid alot of things arelike the in TV shows...

I have little knowledge of the physical fight world(does playing several Japanese fighting games count?) and even I could stand a better chance than Roll and her operator on any given day, any activity(except piano...or clown slinging).
I mean seriously, it's kinda annoying when you have to go and save pink-hair from something that could've easily been avoided. Maybe I'm too mature for my age, or just biased, but I think that's just downright pitiful.
Can't escape from a freakin bubble. ¬_¬
Akutare - April 25, 2008 11:51 PM (GMT)
It's called a cliche, Starz. It happens alot, mainly in children shows like Megaman NT warrior. Can be the same for video games also.
Like I said, I like the games. I didn't enjoy the anime much, unless you count a few episodes. I did enjoy one episode from Beast Plus.
I have seen people also say that EXE started the Megaman franchise. I have seen some say that it's canon to the Classic and X series.

EXE is my favorite series, and my two favorite games are 2 and 3.. I don't care for 4, 5, 6 and it's mainly becauseit's the same thing over and over. Also, I looked how the first three games looked compared to the look of the last three.

BN3 hooked me, I played on ROM, then started doing savestates instead of actual saves, and I ended up losing against Kingman and going back like half of the story. I haven't touched it since.
Elementos93 - July 11, 2008 03:35 AM (GMT)
The BN series was what introduced me to megaman so I enjoy it very much.
1 and 2 were great. 3 was the first one I actually played so yeah I loved that one very much. 4....... that's about it. 4.5 was pretty fun and to me should've been the real 4 but story problems would arise. 5 helped me off my feet after the crp I had to put up with on 4. 6 I find fun but it doesn't make me belive the series actually ended. Star Force is great I can't wait till 3 comes out and I'm not done with the extra things in 2. ^_^
The other 4 series are othere stories.
the classic megaman was great and can't wait for 9.
The X series was amazing but 6 sucked. 8 left me with unanswered questions.
The zero series was fun while it lasted 4 games they were great though (fav was 3)
The ZX series filled the gap that that zero left.
pacman+ - July 11, 2008 04:41 AM (GMT)
EXE was okay. I mainly bought it because I had Boktai 2, but I still have not done a single crossover battle.
X was a good series. Wish I could have seen more of Axl.
Classic was good as well. Love Megaman and Bass. Bass is no doubt better than Megaman, with double jumping (I found it seriously key in the game), and the Treble Boost item (so he can fly temporarily, also useful in some parts of the game), so how the hell does he keep losing to Megaman? Also has my fav Robot Master, Burner Man.
Never played ZX or Zero series.
CenetaurmanE52 - July 12, 2008 11:46 PM (GMT)
Megaman wins because he can take more.
And the X series is the highpoint IMO.
