I'd like to start this off by saying that Eggman sucks. Robotnick is Robotnick, not Eggman. That sounds gay. Robotnick for life.

That said I wasn't really into the SatAM version of the guy. I mean he is a crap load darker and I appreciate the show, but Sonic wasn't dark for me as a kid. He ate Chilli Dogs, not fight with Antoine and the Freedom Fighters. No my Robotnick was from AoStH. This guy:



Him, Scratch, Grounder, and I guess that idiot Coconuts were the best. Hell they went after the Chaos Emeralds in a 3 parter. Plus now he's a Youtube Star. And his catchphrase:

"I HATE THAT HEDGEHOG!"

Anyway I decided to do a quick redo (It actually took me an hour to get them all right) of the original Robotnick sprite from Sonic 1 and change it into the AoStH version. I had to redesign the chest, change the mustache color, change the eyes, add grey lines on the arms, color in the gloves, and add that appendage on his hover craft.



Standing, in his Hovercraft, and just about to deliver his catchphrase.

I'm going to make Scratch and Grounder next. Scratch will be hard, but Grounder has a look alike in Sonic 2 so that will be easy. I think when I do him, I'll add this jem from Sonic Sez:

Actually, from what I heard, Eggman was Robotnik's Japanese name, and he was called Robotnik in the States for a while. When the Sonic games came out for the Dreamcast, Sega of America dropped the Robotnik name, and just called him Eggman. Again, this is just what I heard.

But this topic isn't about quibbling over a character's name. That's as stupid as quibbling over a character's voice actor. >_>

The sprites look rather good. At first glance, they don't look that much different from the origional 16-bit sprites, but after closer inspection, they do indeed look like Robonik's Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog counterpart. I'm impressed

And this is Robotnick from there. He is the dictator of Mobious. He is voiced by Jim Cummings, who also voices Pete from Disney.



Now he is a great villain, no doubt about it, but he wasn't MY Robotnick.

Speaking of his last name if we want to include the games his Grandfather and Cousin both have the last name Robotnick in both English and Japanese. Eggman is his nickname I believe.

Technically, he name is still Robotnik. His Grandfather was Robotnik, and he is the same guy from the first Sonic games. Eggman was his nickname in Japan, though, and it got changed so it's his Super-villain name.



But, that's only technically, and I'm sure you already knew that. Robotnik is the superior name, but the Robotnik of my childhood is the one from the games and the one from the TV show. Mainly because I didn't notice, or care about the difference.

Uh well Robotnick appeared in The Darkest Game. I did just replace the old sprite with that.

I was a big fan of the SatAM cartoon, and later the Archie comics. I stopped collecting the series when it started to go downhill, but I hear they're doing better again.

Gerald Robotnik? I believe... but Sonic nicknamed him EggMan because well, look at him!

Robotnik is awesome. As RockMan has Wily... Sonic has Robotnik.

I enjoyed the cartoons that had Sonic eatting chilidogs, getting all the ladies, and those two goofy sidekicks to Robotnik too. I would get off school and run to my TV!

The Saturday Morning one was darker and I loved the characters.

The sprites are great. I also loved the old cartoon. The chicken guy and the tank, the goofy adventures, Sonic gettng Tails out of scraps.

AM, that sprite is neat. The AoStH Robotnik has such a weird looking head. Of course, you'll need to make his limbs a bit chunkier for it to be splitting image.

He was always Eggman, as others have said.

Since Sonic 1, He's been Eggman in Japan. However, in Sonic Adventure, Sega of America wised up and realized that changing names for localization is stupid, so they retconned his name back into Eggman with one of Sonic's lines:

"Whatever you say, EGG-man!

Japan returned the favor in Sonic Adventure 2, however, and embraced the name "Robotnik" as being his real name, with Eggman becoming a sort of alias. Though I'm pretty sure it was because they couldn't have any serious character named "Maria Eggman."

The sprite could use a bit of work-- focus on the bottom half. His head can be fixed at a later date.
