6/22/05 - MDV is trying to expand it's horizons. Because of this, there is a new position open on Magic Deck Vortex... to be an art critic for art featured on Magic: the Gathering cards. If you like art and like to write about it, I would encourage you to send me an magicdeckvortex@hotmail.com or post your thoughts in the MDV forum thread found here.

Please post your interest or comments on the above in this thread. If you want, just write something and send it to my email address.

Thanks for your interest.
------------------------------
Below are some more details about the position:

Your article should appear about once every two months or once a month. This doesn't have to be an official position on MDV so you can just have an article featured on MDV however often as you like. I would prefer this to be a monthly thing, but if that can't happen, I'm okay with it. Three times a year is cool too! laugh.gif

The length of the article is up to you. Below is a link to an article by Death_By_Beebles. This has a good article length and thus this is what you can work towards. Although, if you want to make it a novel.. feel free, but break it up into parts. People like Part 1’s, 2’s and 3’s… keeps them coming back for more.
http://www.magicdeckvortex.com/mdvarticle0010.htm

This position can be spread amongst several people. Already I have had about 6 responses to my initial request for a writer. That is good.

I cannot pay any writer for now. Unless I start charging double on advertising, I cannot pay for anyone’s submissions. I would like to in the future but please know this going in. The more erwarding part of this is knowing your article is featured on MDV and will be seen for thousands of magic players around the world every day.

The subject of each of your articles is up to you. As long as it has to do with Magic Art, I am happy. There are many different approaches you could take to writing about Magic art. Some brief ideas include:

--Talking about one or two of your favorite artists and their works that inspire you.
--Talking about the art is a set or block… highlighting the good and bad art pieces.
--Discussing things like Rebecca Guay’s fire and rehire… or Ed Beard’s 86ing from art magic.
--Discussing art of old compared to art of new.
--Discussing art redo’s for cards is say, Ninth Edition.. like Hippie, Jester’s Cap, hell’s Caretaker, and the any of the many new arts replacing the old. For instance, I really like the original Temporal Adept and dispise the new art on 8th. Perhaps you could encourage people to send emails to Wizards to encourage them to use the old artwork in future sets.

Don’t stress yourself out on this. If you do take up a full position or just because an occasional writer, please don’t worry if you can’t make deadlines. For the most part.. there are no deadlines. You make them. I will be reviewing each of the articles before print and I will proof them for you and suggest corrections if necessary.

Other articles that talked out magic art include:

There are more.. but that should be good for now.

Hopefully this all helps in clarifying my request.

I'm interested in being an art critic for the site.

I'm opinionated and willing to share thoughts about the art of MTG.

I wouldn't mind giving this a shot, just saw it on the front page today.

Couple questions: when should this article be in by and how often would I have to write one? Right now I have a lot of free time, but keeping up with a tight schedule might be harder during University.

However, during this summer, or the next or whatever, I would not mind trying this out.

I'll get right to work on it!

PM is a private message which you can send in this forum. There is a button in my post here that says "PM" ... click it and send the article that way.

I would prefer you didn't post the article here.

I love criticizing good and bad art! I would be happy to fill the position (or one of the positions) if you wish. If not, that's okay too.
Anyway, thanks for hearing me out. grin.gif
