We now have a newer updated website. See message of 7/20/08
The Humane Society would like to announce our new web site:
www.menapets.petfinder.com
Using the petfinder website will give us national exposure and offers many things that we did not have before. We now have a Paypal account and can be accessed from this site. It is also a free service offered by them and we hope this exposure will bring adopters from other areas to our shelter.

Hi, I'm Cheryl Murphy, and I am brand new to the Mena Forum as of TODAY! This is such a COOL site! Hurray for the sponsors who put this forum together, so the people of Polk County can COMMUNICATE!
May I introduce myself by saying that I am proud to serve as the 2008 Secretary of the Humane Soceity of the Ouachitas!
I joined the HSO in October of last year after I attended a meeting for the very first time, sat there and listened to everything that was going on, and realized how INCREDIBLY DEDICATED these folks are to loving and helping homeless pets! I decided right there, I wanted to be a part of it! In just 3 months time, I have had a GREAT time participating with this group of kind-hearted folks in helping Polk County's homeless animals! When we volunteer to help in some way, it gives us the most 'warm & fuzzy' (or should I say 'warm & furry'?) feeling! Volunteering for a worthy cause is something ANYBODY can do with just a few hours each week, and the personal REWARDS of being a part of something special, are GREAT!
For those of you who are pet-lovers, as we are, I would like to thank you SO VERY MUCH, for donating specifically to the HSO! Your donations (of ANY amount... from clicking the 'Donate' Button on the website to depositing your spare change in our little yellow POGO pups) ALL ADD UP and go to feed, doctor, pay the shelter utility bills, and otherwise care for the homeless pets who come to our shelter to live temporarily until we can find permanent homes! A cash donation is not only valuable, but if you have an hour or so each week or month that you would like to donate, our SHELTER PETS would be so appreciative! There are many ways to volunteer, from just visiting the shelter and giving some attention to the pets, to helping at adoption events, spay/neuter clinics, fundraising, etc, etc... PLEASE visit our new website URL (www.menapets.petfinder.com) and click on the menu links to visit the website and the links which describe volunteering as well as becoming a member! Our annual 'dues' are only $10 for an individual, $15 for a family, $25 for a business!
BUT MOST DEFINITELY, ATTEND A MONTHLY MEETING! Our meeting are held the 3rd Thursday of the month at the Limetree Restaurant, at 6:30 pm... PLEASE come and see what HSO is all about, (like I did last October!).
So, my new Friends at the Mena Forum, Thank you for reading, (did I run-over too much here with my e-mouth??) I hope to hear from you with any questions you may have about HSO! Sincerely, Cheryl :D
