Title: ATV Recreation Park on Fairgrounds Rd.
Marsye - May 31, 2007 10:40 AM (GMT)
Just wondering what happened to the ATV recreation park that was supposed to be built on Fairgrounds Road? That sounded like it would be alot of fun when I read it in the paper a long time ago! That would be something for kids to do......kids of all ages.

Here's where that project is at the moment....
The Fairboard has got the dirtwork done on a 600' ATV drag strip. 600' is suitable for 200 - 300' races with ample room for runout.
The holdup is in looking for used guardrails like are taken down off the hiways to be used in the appropriate places on the track to suit the insurance company. Once the rails are located, work will then be completed and races will be scheduled.
The racing will be broken up into several catagories so that anybody and everybody can participate....even old fat broken down fella's like me!
Dirt Drags was the first choice because it will suit the most participants possible from our community. The drag track will also host garden tractor pulls and antique tractor pulls.
Once established, plans are to add a cross-country GNCC type motocross race track. Again , this will be suitable for the type ATV's that everybody owns in our community. There are classes for both the sport racing and the utility 4x4 type machines.
The initial interest expressed to the Fairboard by a large group of citizens was to provide a circle track for racing go-carts. This is still in the works but due to the fact that there are more ATV in the community than go-carts, the Board decided to make the effort to provide for them first.
The Board envisions a day when we'll be able to provide for several different areas of small engine motosports competition and will have events on a bi-weekly basis.
It is not the intent of the fairboard to attract any professional racers, though they'd be welcome, but to provide a facility in the community that would serve citizens that have interests other than baseball and soccer, not that those sports are not important, but we do have folks with other interests and they've asked us for help.
Forgot to mention.....we'll probably have a mud pit also. It will probably also be open to pickups. The ONE BIG RULE there, that will be strictly enforced, is the vehicle will have to have a STREET LEGAL muffler/s and will not emit any more sound than vehicles that travel on the streets and highways.

PAY VERY CLOSE ATTENTION!!!
Here is part of your "kids with nothing to do" solution. Make this happen, and then support it.

Whats with the people at the fairgrounds. My son was at the fairgrounds with another family riding a 4 wheeler around on the roads inside and were told that they could not do that anymore and had to leave. This is the only place in town where they can safely ride their dirt bikes and 4 wheelers in town. What gives?

And they will run your butt out for metal detecting it too which sucks.

All of you people wanting to ride your ATVs aren't being very considerate of the people living near the fairgrounds. Why can't you ride them out in the country where you won't disturb anyone?
A friend of mine lives there. She said that with the windows shut, air conditioning going, vacuum cleaner running, and the washer & dryer spinning, the motorcycles (or whatever) were still very loud and annoying last summer. Forget taking a nap, reading a book, or simply having a conversation.
Why does the fairground association have to put this thing in the middle of town? Why do the surrounding landowners not have any rights? There were a heck of a lot of people at the fairboard meeting protesting this before they started. They were treated like they were pests.
I do know there is a church across the street that has Saturday services. Do they have any rights?

"The ONE BIG RULE there, that will be strictly enforced, is the vehicle will have to have a STREET LEGAL muffler/s and will not emit any more sound than vehicles that travel on the streets and highways. "
And who is going to enforce this rule? Is someone going to issue warnings & tickets? I doubt that is going to happen...

How can you have street legal exhaust for vehicles that aren't street legal? Why would any company even make a street exhaust for an off road only rig?
fathackerinavibratingchair - August 5, 2008 11:30 PM (GMT)
Because its not illegal to ride an ATV on the highway in every state.

I think this is a great idea. My brother, cousins, and ALOT of other people here in town have to drive all the way to Dora/Ft. Smith to race or even watch. This will give people in this county something else to do other then go walk around wal-mart.
Question.....Is it going to be privately owned or at the fairgrounds?

The fairgrounds is privately owned and has no connection with the county
