Title: Monthly Yard Sale/Bazaar @ Fairgrounds
Description: asking for input
Bill - June 4, 2007 04:37 AM (GMT)
The Fairboard has discussed the idea of hosting a monthly yard sale at the fairgrounds. There's about 19,000 sq.ft of heated/ac'd buildings and 21,250 sq.ft of covered area and lots of outside area that could be used. We think using the grounds would be very convenient to both sellers and buyers due to the abundance of easy parking and access.
The Fairboard would also run a concession and serve our usual mouth-watering fare.
Would the community be interested in utilizing the grounds for something like this?
What would be a fair price for space rental...inside...outside open, and outside covered?
What size spaces would you need?
What hours/day(s) would you want to participate?
If there's enough interest in something like this, the Board could make the decision to make plans for the first monthly event.
All input in regard to this matter is greatly appreciated.

Oh heck yeah I'm all for that, for browsing to buy and selling stuff too. Great idea.
10 bucks a space?
Can we sell beer? (just kidding) :P

With the popularity of yard/garage sales, I think that is a wonderful idea. Make use of the fairgrounds and give the people of Polk county and surrounding areas something to do on a weekend too.
I know, if I got off my butt and decided what to get rid of, I sure would rent a space.

My husband and I would be buyers. Its a great idea as long as it doesn't get trashy like many I have seen. Also we don't care for those that leave it set up all the time because we know its the same stuff time after time. Variety is good! Oh and one more thing......NO SMOKING would be nice! ;)

Ok, it's been decided that we'll host the first
Garage Sale Extravaganza on June 22nd & 23rd.
Inside commercial building with A/C, the booth sizes are 8 x 10 and will cost $15 for the two day sale. You may rent as much booth space as you see fit, the walls fold in and out to make wider booths to suit your needs. There are 50 booth spaces inside the commercial building.
Outside open spaces will be $15 for a 20 x 20 area. Again, you can rent as many spaces as you wish. Outside spaces will have to be set up on sale days....No security will be provided for items left outside overnight and the Fairboard will not be responsible for loss, damage or theft.
The building will be open on Thursday evening from 6pm till 8 pm for setup.
Doors will open on the Friday Sale 7 am and close at 6pm.
Doors will open on the Saturday Sale at 7 am till ?????
When the decision is made to close up shop Saturday evening, ALL property MUST be removed from the premises.
There are 8' tables available for use at $5 ea. for the two day sale. You can reserve any tables you might need when you reserve your spot.
Reservation requires payment in advance on both space and table rentals.

Bill.......Just wondering how many vendors you have setting up so far?
Bill - June 16, 2007 02:41 AM (GMT)
I'm not sure. I've got some messages at the office to check on tomorrow then I'll have a better idea.
I'll post progress if there is any.

my opinion and a dollar fifty might get you a cup of coffee but.........
i think the idea of a 'flea mkt' is good and new sale items each time will be nice
my thoughts on the pricing are that $15 is fair for space rental but i think charging for tables too is a bit much of an expense for the folks you might attract. if you are selling at home it's free and not dawn to dusk remote duty for two days. if you are trying to get regular vendors in there then you will be the same as the flea mkt by the bowling alley with the same stuff week after week, and higher priced to cover the expenses. it has to be also worth the effort of hauling alla that junk down there too.

we rented a booth this past weekend and had a great time. seen old friends and meet some new ones also.
the $15 was not bad and the table rental was ok, would rather seen rental at $2 for the table but was ok.
either way we sold alot carried home less than we went with, and that was nice.
we are going to have another sale on the 7&8 of dec.
look foward to seeing yall there.
