If my dog bites somebody and I don't have proof of a rabies shot ....who keeps my dog for the next 10 days? Me or animal control?

No! Tell us more. I had a squirrel in my backyard that would not run from me no matter what I did to make it run away. About 15 minutes later I found the squirrel dead just a few feet from where it was before. I called animal control. They came and picked it up and sent it to Little Rock to be tested for rabies. It came out negative. Before it was tested the doctor in Little Rock told me over the phone that it was not going to be positive. How could she be sure. Squirrels can get rabies. My point is that they might not be taking this rabies problem seriously enough.

When the animal control lady came to pick up the dead squirrel, we mentioned that we had two inside cats. She said that they were supposed to be registered and we had to show her their rabies shot papers and tags.
Slingshot :usflag: I know this doesn't really answer your question but I kind of agree that animal control would take the dog if it bit someone.

I do not know. There were so many in our yard that it was hard to tell one from the other. It did not have rabies and the doctor in Little Rock said that she was not going to test it for anything else. :dunno:

A very good question Marsye. If you are in the city limits, you call Mena Animal Control for any problems concerning pets whether it's strays, rabies, etc. If you live in the country there is no animal control, with the exception of Hatfield, that I know of. Perhaps the Sherriff's dept or possibly the Quorum Court could answer this. I do know, however, the Humane Society does NOT pick up strays or rabid animals. We don't have the staff or training for this. Of course, there is no animal problem in Polk County. LOL

Since the doctor in Little Rock told me, before the autopsy, that the squirrel wasn't going to have rabies, how do we know that the autopsy was actually performed?
