Title: Card Games/Board Games
Description: u play?
ladiearkie - July 11, 2008 02:31 PM (GMT)
My sister used to gather with her friends on a regular basis and play games. Does anyone do that anymore?
I love Spades and Uno Attack or even Scene it. I looked up all the clubs and such and just couldn't find anything I liked. I want something fun to do, clean fun.
Ideas?

Would love to find a bunch of people who want to play...I play spades and gin, love uno, and yahtzee. As you can see, I'm a BINGO nut and I also love to play texas holdem.
I would try to start something in my home but just don't have the seating or the room.
I know there are some people that I play Bingo with that have weekly or monthly texas holdem games but they are a very close-knit group and, though I have hinted AND OUTRIGHT SAID that I would love to join them sometime, it hasn't worked...lol.
Let me know if you come up with anything.

I also thought of getting something up but ran into a few snags as well. Thought about those with kids, and I don't have a kitchen table or chairs lol That wouldn't work. Let's see if anyone responds and see what we can come up with.
Jaylee - July 11, 2008 08:21 PM (GMT)
Any of you ever played Bunko? The more people, the more fun you have. It takes a minimum of 12 people but 16 or 20 is better so you can have 4 people per table.

When Nick was younger and we would get a bunch of people together we worked out a system where all the kids would stay at one house or another each week with enough teenagers from the families to watch them...that way the parents could get away once a week and not have to pay babysitters.

My wife and I are Pictionary champions!!! :D
We used to drink a lot and play Jenga....funny if you're not in your right mind. :drink: :smoke:

I tried to get a few things like that going but most of my friends don't do board games.
I LOVE BOARD GAMES!!!! And poker, spades, gin, etc..
LOVE PICTIONARY! RISK is fun, too.
So, when it gets colder, let's try to get something going!
(Too much to do outside in summer, no time for it.)
I'll keep an eye on the thread and BUMP it every now and again. Then, maybe we can get some games together.
Sam2U----loved chess, used to play with all my brothers. Unforutnately, don't know anyone who plays so I've lost interest. It's really just a 2-person game however. :)

Sound like a plan to me...if anyone has enough room and would like to get something started make sure you let me know. I'm always good for a cheesecake or chips and dip or something for snacks.
We used to have a lot of games ... Yahtzee, Uno Attack, Monopoly, Chinese Checkers, etc...but I'm not sure what we have now. After Nick got older he and his friends weren't very interested in playing and it's just no fun for two so he was giving the games as prizes at his Menayugioh video game tournaments. I'll check and see what we have left, if any.
If nothing else, weekly poker games would be awesome. Play strictly with chips or just nickle dime quarter to spice it up a little.
Contessa - July 17, 2008 12:39 PM (GMT)
Several years ago, we lived in a small town near here. About once a month, a group would meet in the old general store (closed now) and play Balderdash. We would take turns bringing snacks and everyone had a blast. A lot of laughter and teasing.
I have a dream (when I retire) of opening a soup, salad, sandwich, & sweet shop with a big room with comfy couches for visiting & game tables for all sorts of games. Sigh! I'll probably won't have the energy left when the time comes.
I love penny poker, backgammon, spades, scrabble, and of course, balderdash.
notmeaninmena - July 19, 2008 04:15 PM (GMT)
I may not be too good at it but I love to play Scrabble.

So glad you all are interested, I would like to organize something say starting in what....September, October...start with once a month, maybe. Any ideas on where to meet. I wish I had room but just dont. Any ideas on where to have the kids meet also, I like the idea of having them in another place and having teens watch and parents pitch in for pay.
Shall we plan which games or just all bring our games the first time and go from there. Maybe set up several tables and choose the game we want. Maybe switch around later. Ive never done this but excited to start.
Let me know your ideas about when you want to start, what day and time would be good, where to meet, what games if particular ones, where kids can meet and what teens are available, stuff like that.
Thanks so much for your interest!!! :thumb:

I don't have the room either...hope someone has some ideas.
I, myself, would like to play card games more than board games, though am open to all. I love to play spades and gin, texas hold-em and uno...yahtzee is fun too.
I'll volunteer my son .. he's almost 20 and has always gotten along well with children. He's getting ready to start college so even a small amount of money would be good to him.
If everyone that brings kids chips in $3 an hour for one or $6 an hour for more than one, the teens would be happy. One teen per 4 kids would be sufficient as long as the kids were old enough to play with...babies would require more attention so maybe 2 per teen.
Probably evening would be best, maybe Friday or Saturday so the younger teens are not involved with homework.
I was thinking once a week but maybe we could work up to that.
I just had an idea where we might be able to set this up but we might have to pay them for electricity. It is big enough that the kids could be in a seperate room. I'll look into it and let you know asap.

I like Trivial Pursuit, Uno, Rummy 500, Balderdash & Monopoly. Even a few people all putting together a big picture puzzle can be fun !
So who says theres nothing to do in Mena ! :D All we need is some ideas ... with 1/6 of Mena here on the Forum ... we could likely get any number of clubs & activities started!

Trivial Pursuit is fun and Pictionary is hilarious...forgot about them.

My son is 20 and said he'd be interested in watching the kids as well. He has experience in watching his nieces and nephew here and there.
I'm looking forward to this. I was hoping to do this awhile back....start up a game club but didn't know how to go about it.
We really need somewhere to meet. Any ideas? There is no community center right? My son suggested Ricks but I told him I'm sure they wouldn't like a bunch of people in there taking up space not making them any monies.
There's got to be somewhere we could gather.

Actually Really Great Pizza ( no longer Ricks because he no longer owns it ) isn't a bad idea. My son runs the Menayugioh game tournament there once a month and they are very cooperative and they DO make money because the kids buy the buffet and a LOT of drinks.
They have the one room that has at least two tables in it (behind the new room where they have the big screen tv where the minimum is $5 to be in there) I'll ask Nick but there might even be 3 tables...that would be sufficient for now.
As long as we promise to buy drinks and I think we could chip in and buy a couple pizzas they would probably be happy with us being there. They aren't busy in the evenings - they would probably love the business. Might have to have it during the week though as weekends are busier.
Let me know what y'all think and I'll have Nick talk to the owner about it.
I guess I should tell him that I volunteered him, too...I haven't mentioned that yet...

OK, I just found out your son and mine know each other, how about that? My son plays those tournys and hangs out with your son sometimes. Just thought I'd mention that.
Anyhow, we could always try RGP at least for the first meeting if nothing else as long as its OK by them but I'm wondering what we will do with the kids. It will probably be OK for the older ones but the small ones wouldnt have anything to do there, like my grandson.
Speaking of the kids, I was thinking about the price and us poor people..lol. I was hoping maybe $2 an hour would be better. If they had 4 kids each that would still give them $8 bucks an hour per person. Just a thought.
:dunno:

Who is your son?? PM me if you don't want to post it on the forum.
I said in an earlier post that watching the kids would be $3 per kid or $6 for more than 2...that sounded reasonable to me.
The only thing with having it at RGP is what to do with the kids...it would cost a lot to keep them in video games for very long...would people be willing to have them in their homes...just trade homes every time we had the games.

Besides chess, another couple good intellectual games are Mastermind and Boggle.
ladiearkie - July 27, 2008 01:58 AM (GMT)
:D
I have boggle on my computer, play it a lot. Havent played mastermind in years. I hate playing boggle against my mom though, shes too good. I still like to play though just for the fun of it. Although the computer isn't fair either, I swear they make up words LOL :har:

I think the owners of RGP would frown on that if we have it there.

guess what???
I just talked to the manager at RGP. They have NO problem with us meeting there. There are no fees or minimum orders required (just no outside food brought in) I told him that possible September 6 (thats Saturday night) at 7pm we might meet for the first time. I wanted to check with you all first.
Also, I want to offer my house for the first 8-10 kids. I have 2 sitters willing to accept $2 an hour, we have kids toys and lots of cartoons. The sitters are my son and a family friend, both guys ages 19 and 21--they have both babysat kids before all ages and like kids.
You can make arrangements to meet these guys first if it makes you feel more comfortable (I know it would me if I were you) just PM me.
SO.....WHAT DO YOU THINK???? do you want it sooner, is that a good place, is this acceptable, tell me and I will call RGP and make solid arrangements.

so sorry, also forgot to ad BINGOPRO offered her son to watch kids as well, maybe at RGP (not sure) for $3 an hour (look above)
Also wanted to add a few things I thought might be appropriate:
game players must be 16 or over
kids must not be in game room (too distracting)
Basic Forum Rules apply (like being curtious, no obscenities, type stuff)
and lastly lets keep in mind this is just for F U N
thanks!!!
I can't wait, really looking forward to it. Hey, bring a friend, its not just for forum members. Its, hopefully, the beginning of a Mena Club.

Sounds great to me but let's try to do it sooner. We are going to have to relocate before the end of the year so I would like to have at least a few game nights before we have to move.
I'm surprised RGP would agree to Saturday nights...would think they'd be busy on the weekends but it's fine with me.
Nick said he would help with the child care, too. I think most of the parents that have kids that participate in the Menayugioh video game tournaments know him and that would probably encompass most of the parents in Mena...lol.
I have a suggestion that we keep each game night centered on one game...like maybe have Texas Hold-em one night and then spades or gin (or both) and then yahtzee and then Uno...it's easier to change tables that way so everyone can get to know each other.
Just an idea.
BTW...Nick's tournaments in August are on the weekend of the 9th and 30th so they will have the room on those Saturdays until 7 or so. We would have to go for the 16th.
His tournaments in September are on the weekends of the 13th and the 27th.

Would y'all let us know if you are interested in getting a game club going?? Poker, spades, gin, board games, etc.
I have Uno Attack, Yahtzee, Aggrivation, cards and chips for poker and I don't know what else...need to look.
We are aiming for the 16th of August as our kick off date...will be held at Really Great Pizza on the corner of Mena and 71.
PM either myself or Ladie_Arkie for further info or questions.

OK, I'm going to verify the 16th of AUGUST for our very first CLUB meeting at Really Great Pizza.
Remember, no purchases are required but NO outside food can be brought into the place.
Babysitting will be provided at my home by two guys that you may meet ahead of time (PM me) or at RGP (PM BingoPro) --Prices mentioned above. We may need another home if there are more than 8 kids needing a sitter because thats about all my home can handle. When there is a definite date, I will post the rules for the house.
I was planning on Spades, Uno Attack and Balderdash (if someone is willing to bring Balderdash and share it with us that night) for our first meeting. If this is ok please signify by a post.
Time will be 7pm until whenever.
Any other questions just PM me. I'm online a lot so you should get an answer quickly.

Thank you! Lets have F U N !!!

The reason for the difference in price is that RGP is a more open area than a home and it will be harder to keep track of the kids.
Hope we can get this thing going...should be a lot of fun. :yip:
