Title: Choosing screen names

Scotto - July 16, 2008 02:13 AM (GMT)
For people wanting to sign up, please use a name that doesn't sound like jibberish.

You can create a fictional name, use your real name, your pet's name or whatever you'd like, but please make it sound like something.

Spammers here often use jibberish looking names, like these 4 that I just deleted out of queue:

WertyWaydrome
datingDiemeLennef
Olegenechek
SvertenKolpson

A lot of the new spammers are using gmail, hotmail, yahoo, etc., when they used to use ones we never heard of and were easy to spot. Not anymore.

Sometimes admin tries to validate emails from new registers, and if the name sounds reasonable but we can't validate it, we will approve it but put it in a "mod preview" category. Anyone in mod preview cannot post.

So we send out a pm to those new members, asking them a simple question to verify that they are from Mena or a surrounding community, and if they answer it correctly we move them out of mod preview so they can post.

If you or if you know of someone that tried to register in the past with a name that looked like jibberish of some sort, please re-register with another one so we can approve you. Our apologies to you if you were deleted for that reason. We get around 100 spammers a month that try to register here, and it's a daily job to clean up the registration queue. We try to approve legitimate memberships very quickly, so newcomers can post and enjoy the full benefits of Mena Forum.

We try our best to keep this forum free of spam.

Thanks for understanding!
