I figured out how to add an avitar from the list, but am unable to get an image from my computer. any suggestions?

When choosing an avatar, there should be a browse button for you to click on.

Click on that and it should open a window for you to choose pictures from your saved pictures in your computer. :)

I tried that and, no matter which picture I chose I got a message that said something like "you are not allowed to use that kind of image"...I tried everything from Nick's graduation picture to pictures of my favorite NASCAR driver.

When you click on "Change Avatar Settings", up at the top you'll see:

"Your avatar must be no bigger than 64 pixels by 64 pixels in size. Uploaded avatars from your computer must be no larger than 25 KB.
The following file types are allowed: .gif .jpeg .jpg .png .bmp"

If the picture that you're attempting to upload is larger than 64 by 64 pixels, it won't work. Also, if your picture doesn't have .gif .jpeg .jpg .png .bmp, it won't work.

GR posted a really good avatar website here, my suggestion would be to try and choose one from that website.
