I moved to Mena last summer, and I have heard rumors of a BMX track going in the recreation center by Duke's Junction. My kids have raced BMX bikes for a few years, and it's a very family friendly activity. Many riders and their families travel every week to these races, so it could bring some revenue to Polk County. Currently, there are 3 tracks in AR - 2 in North Little Rock, and 1 in Fayettevile. There is one nearing completion in Hot Springs, as well. The Grand National Race is in Tulsa each November, and since we are so close, I'm willing to bet there would be some interest here in Mena. I would definitely be willing to help if there was enough interest. The ABA (American Bicycle Association) has guidelines and instructions to get things going, and each track is run by volunteers. Each track also gets to host Bigger races each year, like the state qualifying races, and lots of serious racers travel to those. Many are weekend events, so lodging and restaurants would benefit. Also, Bike/Skate shops tend to crop up near tracks. Check out ABABMX.com if you're curious. I'd love to see something like this to keep the kids out of trouble, get them away from the video games for a while, and create some lasting friendships. Any Thoughts?
Would it be possible to utilize part of a MX track for BMX?
I'm not sure. The hydraulic gate operates the same way, I think. I could check the ABA site. Are you thinking fairground rd?
