Title: How you can help

Scotto - April 13, 2009 12:38 AM (GMT)
Admins have been getting pms from members asking what they can do, or how they can help others who have been affected by this terrible storm.

So we have created this temporary forum for those of you who are looking for ways to help or volunteer with the relief effort.

So, here you go. Hopefully we can get a lot of these needs and wants matched up here.

If you can help, please start your own thread about how you can. Do you have a chainsaw? A trailer? Boxes? Or just time and the ability to help others in your community?

Here's how you can get your word out! :thumb:

Where is aalfs located? I have a small trailer and a small chainsaw.

I've been getting requests from out of state from folks that want to come and help. Is there a number that they can call to find out about becoming a volunteer?

I still need a little info if anyone has a main contact name and number, as I said I am a former resident, I am in Virginia and the church I attend wants to lend a helping hand, we do not want to be in the way, we want to help do something(anything) constructive. We are looking to bring 10-20 workers, so please if we can help let us know.

We thought of a love offering, or possibly bringing in supplies that might be needed. "Anything" that we could do, we would be willing to.

Here are some numbers given to me by some of the emergency workers for contacting about information anyone might need.....

Polk Co. Sheriff's office: 479-394-2511

First Baptist Church of Mena: 479-394-2541

Assembly Of God Church: 479-394-1229 and 394- 5232

Dallas Avenue Baptist Church: I do not have their number (sorry).

James Turner: 479-234-6244

If any of these can't help you or answer your questions they can probably refer you to someone who can.

I found it!!! My wife rode with the Boardcamp fire chief handing out tarps and bottled water and I worked at one of the places where debri is being hauled. I had to photograph every truck that came in. These photos are for FEMA. I took 375 photos in about 12 hours. It's very sad to me because everytime a big tree comes in I think about how many kids played in those trees or how many beautiful yards have been ruined.

Regarding loss of our trees... although it's sad to lose them, here's a thought that struck me when I saw the 'before' and 'after' photos of the house with the gambrel roof and the strips of metal twisted like a ribbon in the big old tree out front... these properties now have a beautiful view of the mountains! One beautiful view was traded for another! Maybe folks can plant fruit & nut trees when they replant... then there will always be a harvest to look forward to each Fall. (by the way, which street is that house on?)
