I am looking for ne info on a vet that deals with goats. I already know about Dr.Burgess (equine) and Dr. Mcdonald(a wonderful small animal to bad he don't do goats :crying: ). If u know of a vet that works on goats...and actually answers ER phone calls in off hours plz let me know. We r desprate to locate one before the next kidding season. Due to uncaring actions of a vet (won't mention name) in off hour ...weekend ER..we lost a doe and her unborn baby cuz the vet had a long weekend and was tired (mind u this was while my doe was in desprate need of help which he even stated on the phone that her outcome was grave at that point, but yet STILL refused to help). Oh but i was able to talk him into if she made it thru the night he said he would try and fit her in the next bizzness day inbetween appointments.
All info would be greatly excepted even if its out of arkansas.
What has this area turned into...having animals is just so heartbreaking in an area NOBODY CARES!!!! (except Dr.Mcdonald :thumb: )
I'm sorry that I can't help you with a vet in this area. But, if I were you and this
happened again, I'd be hightailing it to Oklahoma City to the vet school there
You can do it in 3 hours. There are also vets in the Hot Springs and Little Rock area, but
I've opted for OK if I'm in need.
Last year we had a dog at our clinic that was bleeding out from a tumor. The vets here
sent her to Ft Smith emergency clinic, she had to go to Oklahoma City anyway. Going
directly to the vet school would have saved hours of suffering for the owner and the dog.
I've got the fastest route from Hatfield and Mena if you want to know and I've tested the trip.
PS: I'm telling all the vet students I know of about Mena. We can only hope that we get another large animal vet in town someday.
I will say this about Dr Burgess. He is very good IF you can get him there. However, that is a very big IF.
Zen, can you please PM me the route. 2 years ago I had a horse get slashed and couldn't get a vet on a late Sunday afternoon, by the time I got one it was too late to get stiched. Luckily I self treated him properly with antibiotics and twice daily wound care and he healed with minimal scarring, but the stress of not being able to get vet care is scary.
