Title: Missing Pictures or important papers
Jmom2009 - April 19, 2009 02:28 AM (GMT)
Is there anywhere in town to take pictures or other important papers I am sure many of us have found because of the tornado? Or somewhere to go look for some of our own that were lost?

i found a birth cet. the other day and took it to the court house.
now for the good part.
when i took it to the court house the lady i took it too ask me { what do you want me to do with this? i told the lady that i had found in our yard. again she asked me what i wanted her to do with this. so i responded do you not think the person would want it back? strange look. she said i could leave it there but it would probably be thrown away,. they do not know what to do with it, asked is there some place else i could take it too. not that i am aware of so i have been trying to locate the person myself}
this was very upsetting to me so i would say do not take this kinda stuff to the court house find somewhere else to take it to like maybe one of the churches or maybe the red cross.
GOOD LUCK
by the way i took it to the first office on the left as you walk into the court house.

why couldnt there be a lost and found forum on here for the tornado victims so people can advertise whats been found so people can claim there stuff back.

There should be a central location in town for that. Too many people don't even KNOW about this forum. And many who do don't have time these days to be logging in.

Would anyone oppose to Just Me posting the name on the cert? Maybe someone will know them.

That's not a bad idea, we can put one up and see if anyone uses it much, if not we'll just remove it after a while. I'll bet there's going to be a lot of stuff found that needs to be reunited with it's original owners.

Go for it. Post the name, and when found we'll edit the post.

I personally lost quite a few of my kids sports and pagent pics from when they were small up thru high school, I actually found 2 of them a few blocks away so I know they are some where.

Just Me,
Wanted to offer some help if its needed/wanted in tracing people down and getting their documents and pictures back to them....I do alot of family research as a hobby and have in the past found documents and such in Antique Stores and returned them to families....
I have to say I was somewhat shocked & appalled by the fact that the ppl at the Court House couldn't/wouldn't accept important and "personal" documents or even offer advise as to what could be done with such things...these days with as much identy theft that there is...come on...really?? Our Court House couldn't/wouldn't secure these items? Thats pretty sad!
If I was any one of the 100's+ that were missing such things....I would be forever grateful for someone like you who was at least making an effort to make a difference and do the right thing....Don't give up, I'm sure with a little digging, you will locate the person the certificate belongs to, and as I mentioned, I'd be glad to help out if I can...
Kind Regards,
Christine :hugg:

Christine, I just read the Blog (listed above) for the tornado disaster relief, and mention was made of bringing items found or reporting items lost to the Command Center in the Aalfs' parking lot.
Maybe you can go by there and see if they can use your expertise. Sounds like you could be of great help to a lot of people.

Do any of you have digital copies of all of your family photos? What I mean is have you gone about scanning them and putting them on a computer disc just anything like this happens you will always have a copy of the photos?
I know a bunch of folks here in town that didn't have any copies of their pictures and lost a lot of their families history!!!

Great Idea which I have done but store them on one of those memory sticks and put it on your key chain. That way its always with you.
