Title: Tree waste disposal

kasaan2d - April 29, 2009 04:49 PM (GMT)
Is anyone else living outside the city limits having trouble getting rid of tree waste?

A volunteer was told yesterday by Mr Stanly [judge] that they could no longer dump tree waste at the MidSouth dump, it was for "city only" and they would have to go to Hatfield even though the property they were cleaning is about two miles from MidSouth. What happened to "lets help everybody". There aren't that many people living right outside the city limits as to put an undue strain on the dump. Where are the county trucks to help the people in the county? If you look around they are probably inside the city limits picking up waste. Mr. Stanly said if the waste was in the road the county would pick it up. He didn't say in the ditch BY the road. Is he implying people should pile the waste in the road? That sure seems wrong. What must the volunteers, here from out of town, think about this dicision to make it even harder for the people to get back to some form of normal?

I just don't understand :naw:

That sounds awfully cruel!
Have you talked with Southern Disposal yet?
Heck....you might as well pile it up in the street! That oughta get somebody's attention! :omg:

My understanding of the mid south yard was that it was being run by sm and jd. I'd post full names but not sure if I should. Why dont you take a ride over to mid south and talk the the folks checking the trucks in. Maybe they'll do something for ya. FYI, county trucks are now hauling to the waste station between hatfield and cove. Something about the county will get more $$ outa fema if they dispose of it themselves.

The volunteer did talk to the people at MidSouth, waited for an hour to be unloaded and finally had to unload it by his self. All the while the other volunteers were waiting to make another load.
Seems to me everything has turned to "money and how much they can get" and to heck with the person who lost there home.
And don't even get me started on insurance companys and the things they are trying to pull on people who have paid their premiums for years.

I read in yesterday's Dem./Gaz. :

"On Tuesday, Obama also granted Akansas' request for a public-assistance disaster declaration in Ashley, Howard, Miller, Polk and Sevier counties....
This second disaster declaration makes federal money available to cover 75% of the damage to public infrastructure in the affected counties, including utility systems, roads and bridges, water-control facilities and debris removal [emphasis mine]....."

If your'e in the county, pile that mess up and burn it.

masonjar - April 30, 2009 05:40 PM (GMT)
A few months back, the county crew came down my beautiful tree lined road and munched every limb they could reach, actually twisted and mauled them off. Looks horrible.........then just left the limbs on the ground where they fell and have not been back.

They don't even clean up after themselves.............not surprised at all.

I gotta tell you our county road dept. has gone to hell. Our county road has gotten so bad gotta bout have 4 wheel drive to get down it. County comes and puts some kinda of rocky muddy mess in the holes, piked up a huge rock in my tire yesterday, ruined it. Thought about calling RB and telling him he owes me a tire.

:agree:

Let me know what he says, our road is horrible too. I've had to reallign wife's car so many times I've lost count. Can't see them holes when it's dark, full of rain and the size of the car.

If she would slow down a little it might help! Kinda glad to see the pot holes people seem to think that our county road is a race track.

:agree: I Personally am begining to think that our county road crews are usefull and a waste of tax payers money. Whens the next county judge election?

wulf - May 1, 2009 12:22 AM (GMT)
I don't know what the problem is but our roads are terrible. They are shameful. But Bethesda rd got a couple of miles of new pavement. But they dug out the ditches and there is no shoulder only a drop off. Extremely dangerous!!

I think to state that "the county road dept has gone to hell" is a pretty broad stroke. Do you think the actual employees have a choice on which road they work on or what is done to it? I doubt it. I figure its like any other business, the boss's tell em where to go and what to do. I dont see anyone posting that "all of walmart has gone to hell" simply because the didnt like a certain display or whatever. Perhaps someone should call the county judge and tell him what ya think. Or better yet, why dont someone else run for judge next term? Not a job I'd want.

masonjar - May 1, 2009 01:11 PM (GMT)
Well, Olepossum, she could drive the entire road at 10 mph (or less), but it would take her an hour to get to work. Also, the roads were not this bad when she bought the car or she would have bought a four-wheel drive.

I'm not blaming the road crew, they are just following orders, like everyone else. I just feel if they are going to work on the roads, then finish them within a year or two, instead of leaving them in worse shape than when they began.

historyfan - May 1, 2009 03:32 PM (GMT)
The real question is where is all this extra 1% percent sales tax money the voters voted in on a promise from the county that, the only purpose of that money was to improve the counties roads?

I think it's a very accurate statement. I'm a born and raised polk countian and never seen the roads in this kind of shape.

And I have spoken to RB, get the same old run around. I'd rather see the roads go back to dirt than this crap they call asphalt.

SouthernVet - May 2, 2009 03:36 AM (GMT)
Mopar, I'm not disputing the condition of the roads. I'm saying that the problem more than likely rests with the person(s) in charge, not the actual road crew. I dont like to blame those that are simply following orders. For the record, I too was born and raised right here.

I actually drive a truck for a unnamed company. We're way off topic anyway.

Jodarlynn - August 25, 2009 02:21 AM (GMT)
:agree: :agree: to all of you. We live in the county, not far from town. We reported to the county judge that the weyerhausuer trucks were tearing up the road we live on and if he would call them they would repair the road, no call was ever made. We also called the county judge to inquire about tornado cleanup and sheetrock materials/debris, we were told to first bury it, then he said to burn it, but when we told him we would not do either one of those he just said call southern disposal and rent a dumpster. Why did the city residents get assistants from the city of Mena and Fema and the county residents got nothing?????? I don't understand either. How does Fema help city residents and not couty residents. On our road people have piles of everything you can think of and it will probably be there this time next year. Word has it that the question of No County Assistance is suppposed to be on the agenda at the next qourum court meeting. We will see if that does any good. Lots of people are asking the same questions, but again nothing is being done. :naw:
