Title: Any rockhounds here?

Scotto - June 9, 2009 01:37 AM (GMT)
Just wondering if we have any rockhounds on the forum that I don't know about. I know we have a couple, one in the Heavener/Poteau area, and another in Board Camp.

Anyone else?

I LOVE rocks!!!
Don't have the scientific names memorized for all of them, but I think rocks are alive and beautiful. :hugg: In fact....I grow a lot of them in my yard! :coverlaugh:

That last line was just being funny. Seriously, though, I do love rocks, and always have an eye open for unusual ones. :thumb:

i inherited a large collection from my great-grandfather. I have boxes and boxes of rocks, some labeled, some not. I'm not as up on them as I should be (its been a while since I messed with them). I also have a collection of one-of-a-kind crystals that were collected by my great uncle (he was a geologist for a mining company). If they broke through to a chamber he would take samples before they continued. My GGF also taught me lapidary work before he passed - still have most of the tools (saws, etc.) but it has been a while so I need to refurbish them.

I wow, I'd love to see the collection!

I have some of the more interesting pieces out but most of the rest has been packed away (you can only have so many interesting artifacts and doo-dads out and I have all kinds of things out - I should have been a museum curator). I would have more out but then I would have to dust them (my grandmother always said "you can write your name in the dust as long as you don't date it"!) They crystals are semi-handy and one of the metal cabinets I have is out but they are a little jumbled (when I moved here it got jostled a lot and I haven't had the time to re-sort) Give me a PM and maybe we can get together.

Got interested in rocks when I took Me. Lyns Earth Science class. Very worthwhile hobby.
