BENEFIT CONCERT
The Mena high school, middle school and sixth grade choirs will hold a benefit concert on Saturday, October 3, at the DeQueen Street Armory. The event will begin at 7:00 PM. Admission is $7.00 for adults and $3.50 for students.
Proceeds from the concert will be used to support the choir incentive awards program. The awards program honors and rewards outstanding choir students who have demonstrated exceptional musical talent and skills, dedication, discipline and the desire to succeed in the area of vocal music. Thirty-six choir students received recognition and awards through the incentive program for their accomplishments in the 2008-2009 school year. These accomplishments included two Arkansas All State Choir members and nineteen members of the Southwest Region All Region Honors Choirs.
The benefit concert will open with the multi-talented Richie Owens followed by former choir member and country singer, Katie Beth Head. Big Bear Opry headliners, Seventh Wave, will then rock the house with a selection of classic rock hits. The concert will continue with Muzzleloader, the local contemporary Christian rock band recently featured at the Rock the River Festival in Ft. Smith. Mick Riley is the sound technician for the event. All the artists and Mr. Riley are donating their time and talent to support the Mena choir program.
Mena Schools Choir Director, Ferroll "Tammy" Taylor said, "We are fortunate to have so many talented and generous musicians who support the students involved in choir. Join us for an evening of quality entertainment on Saturday, October 3!!!"
