Title: What Kind of Wood Do You Burn?

I'm fairly new to the woodburning stove world. Just installed one recently. What kind of wood is best to use? How often does the flue need to be cleaned?

Also, when you decide to clean it, open the door to the stove and have your girlfriend/wife sit there to watch and make sure something falls down the pipe when you go on the roof and tap on the pipe. :thumb:

Speaking of.....do we have a chimney sweep in town? Name or phone number would be great.

I burn a lot of oak and cedar.
I also use a lot of the 'anti-creosote' powder when I have fires to aid in the removal of it. Burn only seasoned wood, and don't burn pine which is a major source of creosote and build up in the flue.
I have a trap door in the bottom elbow of my flue outside, so when I smack the side of it and it crumbles down, it falls out of the hole and I just seal it back up.

Just go to Wal-Mart. Get a big bag of rock salt, like you'd put in your water softner. Throw a good hand-full in there every week or so.
If it works, then good. If not.... Then never mind.
