Title: Dogs,Dogs and more dogs
Description: To many hunting dogs
backlash4213 - November 2, 2009 05:01 AM (GMT)
I have a neighbor that has about 10 hunting dogs..And they bark all night ,every night..I have called the owners of the dogs and they don`t seem to care..I have called the Sheriff Dept..And nothing is done..They get out and in my trash on my porch..I called and told them I was going to start shooting their dogs if they don`t do something about it..And they just said ok..I guess that means I can hire a hit man to get rid of them..Anyone have any ideal how many dogs you have to have to hunt or be a hoarder?? I`m ready to walk out in their back yard and kill them..

Its not the dogs fault. They are being starved to death so they will hunt good. I think its the owners of the hunting dogs that need to be shot for cruelty to animals. Why do they need dogs to hunt anyway??? Everytime I go down a back road I see deer and wildlife everywhere!! Why torture dogs!! I used to have a neighbor with several hunting dogs and they would bark and moan during the night because they were hungry....I saw them and they were hungry! Everytime the dogs woke me up at night I would call the owner, let the phone ring 2-3 times then hang up. Finally he figured out the connection and would go out and shut the dogs up. If I couldn't sleep because of his dogs then he wasn't going to either.

 It isn't the dogs who are bad, its the ones that don't take care of them. Maybe a large boom box placed near the fence playing the "This is It" at midnight til dawn, might do the trick. jmo
pj1 :smoke:
Nice set of ear plugs for all members of your family.

I like the large boom box idea! Who.. Who.. Who let the dogs out!!! :D

Sorry, but I don't think so. My dad uses hunting dogs, and I can assure you they are not starved. They eat better then I do. Running a dog is not cruel, it's in their blood to hunt. Just like sheep dogs heard, labs swim, husky's work, and so on. My dad let's his dogs run loose most of the time, but he usually has to pen them back up to get them to rest. If you let a hunting dog run loose he will run himself sick. I had a July as soon as she was big enough to run, she would chase deer. I didn't train her to do, it was just in her blood. I tried to break her from it, but it didn't work. Again.....it's in their blood. They don't bark because they are hungry, they bark because they are the best security system a person could ever hope for. But if you know for a fact that these dogs are being starved, please call the humane society. I hate seeing animals abused.
Most hunters treat their dogs better then they treat their wives. I'm sure a few of you gals can back me up on that.
Just my opinion.

I`m glad to know I`m not the only one the doesn`t believe in hunting with dogs..If a man doesn`t know how to hunt without running dogs then they don`t need to hunt..I understand hunting for food and for population control..But when they use the dogs to run the deer for the hunter to just start shooting then it`s not right..I have seen too many deer killed and the only thing cut off them was the backstrap and horns..What a waste..And if the dogs don`t hunt the way his owner thinks he should they just kill the dog..Cause oh well,, they`ll have more dogs the next year..If anyone ever comes up with a way to outlaw the use of running dogs I`ll be one of the 1st to vote for it..A man is not a real man unless he can learn to hunt alone..Believe in the Indian ways of hunting and you will never go hungry..

Sure we could go back to the ways of the indians. Indians used dogs as pack mules. As well as using them for hunting.

Don't forget, they used dogs as food also!!!

1st off men do not hunt with dogs becaues they dont know how to hunt with out they do so becaues it is enjoyable to watch a dog work a trail like there born to do.
you have probally never used dogs but off course you will probally say you have for arguments sake its people like you who cant mind there own bunisses that pisses me off. and ive seen deer left behind by people running dogs and people who was not ,just becaues you run dogs you are not a bad person.Futher more its people like you who are quick to judge going to vote to take away someones liberty that you dont know anything about you should worry about yourself and what you like to do let other worry about them selfs if you dont want to run dogs dont ,but dont try to take it away from others. And the statment you made men are not real men unless he hunts alone i guess thats like saying women are not real women unless they cook from scratch like the indians.

Are you saying the dogs are running game regardless of hunting season or not? I would think if they are deer dogs, that might be a little rough on the fawn survival rates?
Just curious. I end up w/ a couple of stray deer dogs during modern gun every year and tie them to my mail box at the highway w/ food and water so their owners can retrieve them.

I love hunting with dogs. I am on a stand and I hear the dogs running my way, hot on the trail of a deer...OMG the thrill...The dogs love it as much as I do!!! They are so proud of themselves, as I am too.
I do live out in the country, and our dogs barking bothers only us...but, nobody has stolen anything of mine either. So, they can keep on barking.
And, the statment about a man is not a man..blah, blah,blah... Well...I'm not a man, I'm a woman...but, still.... :coverlaugh:
All the people I hunt with, not only do we know how to hunt without dogs during bow and black-powder season, but when modern gun season gets here..we know how to use the dogs.
And, I don't worry about dogs hurting the fawn population, because there is still plenty of deer every season.
And, the dogs are ready!!! Load 'em up!!! :yip: :yip: :yip:

That kinda seems like a loaded question. But yes, his dogs run loose, so they tend to chase animals every now and then. That doesn't mean we are waiting behind a bush ready to shoot. As long as I remain out here in the sticks my dogs will not be tied up. Unless they are bothering neighbors, then they will be put up.

Running dogs isn't so much about getting the deer, it's about the rush of trying to get to the perfect spot before the deer crosses. If and when someone gets a deer, every one takes a little of everything, so not much is wasted. The dogs get the rest. I have family that still hunts as well as runs dogs. They kill more deer still hunting. So maybe we should argue that still hunting is bad for the deer population?
Or, maybe we should put a ban on driving. I have seen dozens of deer laying on the side of the road lately. So isn't driving bad for the deer population? My guess is the ones who hit those deer and left them laying there are more then likely the same ones who complain that hunting is cruel.

I didn't intend for my question to appear a 'loaded' one. I've hunted some w/ dogs, but not for deer. Pheasant, rabbit, quail and a little duck hunting. I'm not fond of shooting running deer, and have always felt the meat wasn't as good as a relaxed animal due to adrenalin.
I primarily hunt w/ a crossbow. I don't mind in the least giving my sport up during modern gun, nor those that run dogs. I understand the tradition involved, and am pretty much a live and let live type.
I have 5 months to bow hunt, the doggers 3 weeks or so. I do think the deer dogs should be kept away from the young deer until they are at least old enough to stand a chance of out running the dogs.
Of course that's just my opinion. Hope you and yours have a great season!

Now i hunt every season(Bow, Muzzleloader, and Modern Gun) and the only season legal for dogs is Modern Gun. I have seen MANY deer during archery and muzzleloading seasons. I still hunt 100% and scout areas months in advance to hunting them, but people hunt differently and if you want to hunt with dogs then go ahead and do it. I have had dogs run deer in front of me anyway, and dogs ARE really neat to listen to one a cold morning. :thumb:
