Mena Firefighters......community servants??

YOU DANG BETCHA! Right down to the last drop of their firefighter blood.

I know there's another thread on this forum about our local firefighters but I'd like to add a word here, if I may.

These individuals receive minimal monetary compensation for their life and property saving efforts. They do a great job and rank among one of the top benefits of life in this community. They're always prepared for the task at hand and are willing to go out of their bounds to assist/aid any department that calls for them.

I call on them at least twice a year..........not for their firefighting capabilities, but to tap their TRUE COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMITMENT. If I need a group of capable people to assist with a major event at the fairgrounds, I can always count on our firefighters. If I need help to come early and stay late....you guessed it , the firefighters. Joined by several rural volunteers each year, we count on the firefighters of our community to assist with the orderly operation of the gates to our main events. They don't come for the votes, or the headlines, or anything you could deem as glory in this endevour. They come to help/assist/aid in whatever way they can to help the community enjoy an orderly, safe event.

What do they get in return for standing in the hot sun on a dusty driveway for hours at a time helping the Fairboard provide safe entertainment for the community? All the cold water I can haul them to drink, a cheeseburger, and a big THANK YOU from those that slow down long enough to see what it is they've done for the community.

There can be no motive for what these individuals do at the fairgrounds that isn't built right into their personal constitution. I say this is the most basic , true indication of what TRUE PUBLIC SERVICE is all about.

Consider this when you meet these people, their commitment to this communities safety and happiness is not just skin deep....it goes all the way through'em......right down to the last drop.

My hats off to them, I wish I could do more for them, one day I'll figger out a way and I will. In the meantime, give'em a pat on the back and say Thank You once in a while.....

What a GREAT TRIBUTE, Bill! :thumb:
I was not aware until now how much they help out at the Fairgrounds.
I admire and deeply appreciate ALL of out volunteer firefighters, and tell them so every chance I get and contribute financially also.
What a huge difference they have made to our community!

Lets all keep Chief John Puckett in our prayers as he recovers from a bit of surgery yesterday morning.

Get well soon John! God Bless You for all you do.

Yes, the Chief seems to be doing very well. The day after stint surgery, just barely over 24 hrs....the crazy ol' coot is back at the Fairgrounds tending the gates! He's got a great crew helping him though and all has gone well. We're glad to have him back so soon but need to keep a tight rein on him for a while longer.

scooter.....Thanks for coming out Friday night! You did a great job!
