McHenry County Sheriff's Office

Kane Kellett, charged with home invasion, got a 6-month sentence for giving a judge the middle finger as he was being sworn in.

An Illinois man found out the hard way that giving a judge the middle finger while being sworn in isn't nice — and won't go unpunished.

Kane Kellett, 24, landed in jail for six months after he raised his right hand, middle finger extended, before Judge G. Martin Zopp in McHenry County Court, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Tuesday.

The Crystal Lake man was there Saturday on home-invasion charges. Since his nonverbal "outburst," he is now serving half a year for contempt of court, according to McHenry County State's Attorney Louis Bianchi.

In the original case, Kellett is accused of breaking into the house of an acquaintance and attempting to hit him over the head with a flashlight, the Sun-Times said.

Kellett was surly from the start, according to the state's attorney.

"When they brought him out of the lockup he looked very unhappy. He was looking down all the time," Bianchi said. "The judge asked him 'Sir, do you have an attorney?' and he said 'F—- no.' "

Zopp ignored that comment but after the middle-finger incident, Assistant State's Attorney Patrick Kenneally asked that the defendant be held in criminal contempt of court.

Zopp agreed, handing down the six-month sentence.

Free medical for six months, and he only had to lift a finger to get it! That's an idea worth considering for those people who know they are seriously sick but have no way of ever paying off a necessary operation.

could see being fined for doing this but 6 months in jail is very extreme maybe even 30 days for this but 6 months is just crazy

I don't agree BF. If a man haasn't be taught to respect people by now, I think it will take 6 months for him to even get a clue. I think he should get more time for the first words that came out of his mouth. This is the kind of punk who gives the rest of the younger adults a bad name.

He may of been one of those teenagers who wouldn't even respect teachers or elders and he has gotten away with it for so long...Teachers just move him on or he may of just quit school...elders can't pop him upside the head as a younger kid when he smarted off...for fear of getting into trouble themselves... so this guy may of mistakingly thought he could do or say whatever with no consequences. He also would whinning :vio: "no one respects me" ...and he would be right.

6 months in jail will not teach him respect it will probably make him move on to alot more serious offenses , respect is something that should be earned not expected :D

I still disagree BF. I think you should always respect a person first, until they prove they don't deserve the respect.

6 months may not earn the respect from the young man for the judge, but if he dosen't like jail...he will keep his mouth shut and finger to himself while he goes before a judge. So....maybe it is earned respect...the hard way. I think I may have had respect for my Dad's belt a little bit before I had respect for him....:spank:

Yea...I feel respect is something you should give right off the bat. It can either grow or disappear...depending on who you are showing it to...

So BF do you expect for someone, just anyone to randomly flip you or your loved ones the middle finger or curse you just because? That is basically what you are saying when you say respect should be earned. People should respect others until proven they do not deserve it. But then again, thats how I was raised. I also respected the Belt or paddle! Just my two cents worth, six months may not be long enough for this guy.

I will agree about giving respect until otherwise proven , I have been flipped off and cursed for no reason in a perfect world that wouldn't happen but this not a perfect world .
