Title: Lunar Eclipse
I love MJNet - March 3, 2007 11:18 PM (GMT)
Tonight we've had a total lunar eclipse (although frustratingly we had cloud cover literally at the total cover came across), but MJN managed to get this great picture early on so thought I would share it.

Another one of the eclipse a little later on.

Very impressive. And what a cool idea for a thread!
Now when I'm PM I'll have a place where I can come to howl like a wolf, bay at the-- ...Oh. No. No, I won't.
I go home now. --e
(mondo cool pic!)

For anyone interested - this is one taken by my cousin pre-eclipse (don't have any others of his atm and unlikely to for a couple of days and not sure what he got - had more cloud cover than we did!). He has some serious kit for doing this kind of thing, but the weather just might have screwed his plans tonight to get much unfortunately.

Whoa. I was gonna say--that's some shit-hot camera. Looks like a whole telescope setup. Still, yours are nothing too shabby; are they with a regular SLR or some digital jobbie or what? --e

My cousin has it all set up with a telescope - like I said, he has got some serious set up! Its a real "hobby" of his, and he is also involved in a UK publication called Focus, which is a science magazine - unfortunately not enough to pay his bills, so he has another paid job that isn't as much fun (does some kind of quality control for an engineering company).
As for ours, a basic digital camera - with a very cheap pair of binoculars (field glasses) - being held by hand! So wobbling all over - took about 10 pictures for every one that was okay! Then the batteries ran out! lol

We not as technically advanced managed to get some good shots though. However the neighbours came out lol, they thought we were taking pictures of them through their kitchen window. Trying to explain was interesting. I didn’t even know it was happening until one of my housemates was told on her Robin Hood Forum lol. It was a perfect sky for us to see it as well in Cardiff!

Wow, great photos! Keep 'em coming. We only had a partial eclipse in this part of the world, and it was so cloudy I don't think I could have seen anything even if I had tried.

Well I've got one now from my cousin almost in full eclipse (he like us had some cloud so missed it absolutely complete.)
Although he has some serious kit, I have to point out, he is only an amateur - even with this level of picture/equipment!
