Title: This ONE time at Bad Girls Camp
Route66 - May 2, 2007 08:53 AM (GMT)
Hi, what was the most poignant moment for you during the first 3 seasons of Bad Girls?
Baileysqueen - May 2, 2007 09:14 AM (GMT)
The 'Shit Happens' Line. i was like what the fuc......?! she cant kiss her like that then leave?! Crazy Madness!
Cassandra - May 2, 2007 09:16 AM (GMT)
Ooh .... difficult just to pick one!
But if I had to then I'd pick the kissing scene in the art room where they rub noses. Just something about the sort of shy look that they give each other.
liverpoolkiss - May 2, 2007 09:42 AM (GMT)
For me it was the ep where Helen visits Nikki in S2. I thought Helen was gone for good, but had a niggling feeling she would be back. So you could imagine how relieved I was !

I agree. This is one of my fave scenes like, ever!
If it's a non-N&H scene that got to me the most, then it's where Denny finds her mum in the park, getting pissed. I felt for Den so much!
notsuchabadgirl - May 2, 2007 01:48 PM (GMT)
I loved that bit during Helen's first lifers meeting.
Been a while since i watched any dvds, but if I remember correctly  ...Helen says something about "Addressing offending behavoir", and as she does so she just glances across at Nikki, and their eyes meet, and they are just kind of lost in the moment together.
Wonderful! :D ...over very quickly, but so beautiful to watch!
microsofty - May 2, 2007 02:29 PM (GMT)
Shit! I can't decide! This thread has been bugging me the whole day! (Who started this, I'll have to have a word... :) )
I'd probably go for when Nikki tells Helen how much just one look from her meant, how much it meant for Nikki to just know that Helen was around.
I love MJNet - May 2, 2007 02:43 PM (GMT)
Just moved this across to a slightly more suited forum. :D

Great choice Annette. I love that too.
Another one I've thought of - where Nikki tells Helen she's in love with her (the first time!). Right at the beginning of S2, after the Zandra-on-the-roof business. Especially when Helen says "Well I can" and then walks away.
destiny_marie - May 2, 2007 06:07 PM (GMT)
Aww yeah Lisa i love that one
Xenaclark - May 2, 2007 06:50 PM (GMT)
I would have to agree with Microsofty.
S3ep2 the next day when Nikki is lying on her bed and a tear slides down her face and Helen comes in as Babs is leaving. Helen tells Nikki not to give up and Nikki says don't. She tells Helen that she could get through a whole week with just one look.
I would try and do the quotes but I loaned my DVD's to my friends and wont get them back till tonight.
I just love that scene. Nikki said earlier in season 2 that she's not good at telling people things so she wrote Helen a note, but I think she said it wonderfuly in S3ep2.

You're absolutely right, Xenaclark! Of all the statements made by Helen and Nikki which demonstrate a total lack of self-awareness, this has to be the one which takes the cake. I mean, really, Nikki doesn't think she's the soppy type? You've got to be kidding me! This is even more deluded than any of Helen's emotionally repressed statements throughout the three seasons.
PS I love all the moments people have mentioned. I'm actually finding it impossible to choose between any of them. Although I do love the moment in S2E7 when Helen walks onto the wing and Nikki's waiting in the food line and their eyes meet across the room. It's filmed and acted so perfectly.
lisa2007 - May 2, 2007 08:33 PM (GMT)
Abzug you just made me think of another great Nikki soppy scene: S3ep15 or 16? when Nikki tells Helen that, although she knows they are just friends now, she can't face the thought of being sent back to a Larkhall without Helen in it....The "you were my hope" line gets me every time!! And the look on Helen's face.....Damn that Thomas for walking in!!!!
Cassandra - May 2, 2007 08:51 PM (GMT)
I agree, lots of great choices mentioned here ... I'm really, really tempted to change my mind now!
But lets face it, practically every scene with Nikki & Helen in it is a "poignant moment"!! Their acting is just so fantastic, particularly the subtle tones of voice and eye movements .... oh and not to mention the chemistry between them.
Have I missed anything out?
Xenaclark - May 2, 2007 10:38 PM (GMT)
I know lending out BG DVD's is a no, no, but how do you get someone hooked if they can't watch them.
I live over an hour away but twice a week I make the trip to watch some eps with them.
I forgot about the S3Ep15 or 16 where Helen tells Nikki she is leaving and when Helen tells her that she will be out soon, but Nikki mentions about how the other girls will still be locked up with Fenner. I thought that was great because it showed how much Nikki really cared about the other women.

I think Nikki lost her edge over the seasons ... Yvonne started getting the tough-girl lines, and Nikki got soppier in her affections for Helen (which unfortunately became almost her whole story). I wish they'd kept her as a tough rebel throughout.
So on those lines, I'd say one of my favorite scenes with Nikki is her attack on Shell. Others would've let Shell get away with it, but Nikki wouldn't just let it go or pretend what Shell said was okay. I loved Nikki's willingness to take up for the downtrodden, no matter what the personal cost.

Hiya Lisa :)
I adore this scene, I think it's great. And yes, the look on Helen's face may speak a thousand words - until Thomas walked in. Which reminds me of another scene - the other one where Thomas interrupts them: I think it's S3Ep10, when the appeal has been granted and Helen grabs Nikki's arms and flings them up in the air saying "A big bloody yes!". I swear they were about to kiss then, before he walked in.
Canadabadgirl - May 3, 2007 12:49 PM (GMT)
I love the scene between Helen and Nikki after Helen takes Monica back to her cell. They talk through the door and it's clear that they are closer to each other emotionally than they are to anyone else in their individual lives. Nikki has to remind Helen that she has Sean waiting for her at home. So few words, so much emotion, such great symbolism. Scenes like that made s1 some of the best television ever broadcast, I think.

Yeah. <sigh> Love that scene, and it's after a full episode of wanting something to happen with Helen and Nikki (post-potting shed, pre-kiss), and then what we get is so small and yet so large at the same time.
Route66 - May 4, 2007 07:53 AM (GMT)
I break down whenever I see Helen standing at the bottom of the empty stairs holding herself; she conveys so much without speaking a single word.
Lisa289 - May 4, 2007 10:24 AM (GMT)
Agreeing with all the scenes everyone's posted here. :)
ladder - May 4, 2007 01:37 PM (GMT)
That scene says it all! The prison feels so domineering!
Route66 - May 8, 2007 07:05 PM (GMT)
Something else that touches me is the way Helen softly asks Nikki "what's wrong" when she feels Nikki is breaking down emotionally.
Evangelist - May 8, 2007 09:24 PM (GMT)
One of my favorite scenes is when Helen goes to Nikki after finding out about Monica's OD...she's ranting away at Nikki and when Nikki says, "I did it for you" it just stops her in her tracks. It's then that Helen realizes just how much Nikki cares for her...and the lengths to which she'd go to try and protect Helen from the "old boy's network".
It also reflects on how far they've come since the beginning of the season when Helen goes to Nikki in strips and asks her to help change things for the better...or else they all lose out to the "old boy's network".
Baileysqueen - May 9, 2007 07:11 AM (GMT)
I love that scene too Evangelist. and the subtle looks the following morning at the cateen where before helen speaks to nikki to thank her she seems to look at her to consider whether she should say something or not and nikki blaintly avoiding her eye line!those few episodes i just want to bang their heads together..or lock them in a cell together lol. So Frustating
Washuai - May 9, 2007 01:30 PM (GMT)
I read this and there are a lot of good scenes here, but I don't know.
Sometimes what moves my emotions ends up more to do with whatever I'm feeling at the time &/or personal life experiences & less to do with the quality of a scene. When I saw Di bloody jump on her bed to smack her mom around, really it was horrible to watch, because it threw me into personal things in my past. I love my Grams and was her caregiver at one point & couldn't imagine having done what Di did, even though my Grams was not an easy woman & had emotionally hurt me to tears at times. Then I really wasn't watching after that thought, even if my eyes were open, but I stopped really watching the scene & thought about somethings before my grandma died. I had been taking care of her & then my sister. It brought back the horror of extended family accusing us of using or what not our grams who we loved dearly and who some of her damn children, bother to give us hell, when we were just making it so that things went the way Grams wanted and that she got the right level of care, rather than shucked away in a nursing home, which she was deathly afraid of and in which my Great Aunt _____ had been severely abused & died in one. So really, it is that it throws me into all these emotionally sore points that gets me, when I think if I kept concentrated on the scene(s), then I probably would be less affected.
It is like I haven't watched it enough to be able to narrow it down to one. I feel like which scene affects me most, changes with each viewing. Maybe after so many run throughs, I'll really have an answer for this thread.
abzug - May 9, 2007 03:51 PM (GMT)
I think it's really true that we bring our personal experiences to the show, and that can affect the moments or storylines which affect us the most. And it can change over time. I'd expect that if I watched BG ten years from now, I'd be struck by totally different characters and storylines (well, not totally different) than I was this time through. I was mentioning to a friend on this board that I seem to have a different take on Thomas and Helen (I actually enjoy the storyline) is because many years after I came out as a lesbian I had two long term loving relationships with men. Seeing Helen with Thomas reminds me of those, in a positive way. (It's also why I liked the film "Puccini for Beginners.") But it was clear to me watching Helen and Thomas that these two were not meant to stick, just as it was clear to me when I was in these two relationships with men that ultimately I was going to be spending my life with a woman.
Lisa289 - May 9, 2007 05:39 PM (GMT)
Hey abzug,
I actually agree with your take on H&T's relationship. I liked this storyline, and how it ended, with Thomas telling Helen to be true to herself. I think Thomas was a really good guy; he must have been, to give her up like that when he realised she had feelings for someone else.

Totally totally agree with you on this one, evangelist. It was during this scene that Helen truely realised that Nikki wasn't just a lesbian "on the hunt". Helen saw the whole Nikki maybe for the first time.
Two other scenes that always gets to me is when Crystal sings "Amazing Grace" after Rachel's death and the camera travels to everyone's cell and we get to see their different emotional responses and battles written all over their faces, and how the grace applies to them. Very powerful. The other scene is when everyone sings "Kumba yah" (sp?) at Zandra's memorial service. It is so amazing to see how her death has again touched everyone. I've noticed that Nikki doesn't sing along - couldn't get past her tears or what?

I adore this scene and Sharon Duncan-Brewster's voice is amazing.

I love this scene too - it shows how much Zandra grew in prison, so much that her death affected everyone. Imagine she'd died in series 1, they wouldn't be affected so much because she wasn't really a good person back then. I've mentioned somewhere before about Nikki's tears in this scene, and I still think this was an easily-missed great acting moment from Mandana.

Hi Abzug,
That film looks really good. I have it pre-ordered at Amazon...can't wait to see it.
Washuai, your story is very touching.
I liked the Helen and Thomas storyline, too. I thought it was important to show that even "Mr. Right" couldn't keep her away from Nikki. I've been fortunate enough to have wonderful relationships with men, but nothing in comparison to the first time I fell in love with a woman...when you find that soul connection it transcends gender and sexual identity to the core of what makes us human...love, and love only knows the heart.

I was going to say top ten but then I'm sure that top ten might be just a bit too much.
List top five Bad Girls scenes and why.
5. Nikki in Helen's office talking about what Nikki did on the outside. (Season1)
This scene is special because Nikki is wearing my favorite outfit. Ok and because Helen is talking to Nikki as and equal and we see where Nikki really likes Helen is starting to fall because when Helen asked Nikki to consider going to school she does.
4. Helen and Nikki at the first lifers meeting. (Season2)
I really like this scene because it takes me back to when people are in the mushy (technical term) stages of love. When you just look at someone and its hard to contain a smile. As Helen does when she looks over at Nikki
3. Nikki Dropping her robe in Season two in front of Babs. (Season2)
This part is really self explanitory...DAMN...Mandan has a very nice physiqe. Plus I really like her sleepwear it looks so comfy.
2. The afterglow from Oh What a Night, with Nikki in Helen's arms. (Season2)
For me this is a great scene. I know none of my favorites were kissing scenes even though they were hot, but for me I put a lot more on the emotional aspect. I know there was tension with most of the kisses, but here we are shown things all be it subtley. The way that Helen is holding Nikki really stands out in my mind. Mostly we see Nikki as very strong person but when she is being held by Helen like this we see that she is very tender and even though Helen is the smaller of the two she has a lot of strenght can also be just as loving and protective.
1. Nikki on bed after Oh What A Night when Helen tells her that she is not giving up. (Season3)
This was the scene that almost made my heart break. When they showed Nikki on her side and a lone tear rolled down her nose and she bravely brushed it away with her hand. I knew her. I had been there. Then when Helen walked over and gently pulled her on her back so she could look into her eyes and saw the sadness, that nearly broke my heart. To know love so deep like that and to think it was ripped away. Then to listen to Nikki talk about how she made it through the weeks and now all that is gone. It was gut wrenching, but then to hear Helen state that she was not giving up gave me hope. It was just such an emotional scene and to know that I had been there really put me in the scene.
Ok now your turn.

I'm sorry. I thought freedom would have been right.
I'm still not sure where to go sometimes.
abzug - May 15, 2007 06:16 PM (GMT)
Freedom was definitely the right place to start this thread. It was just there's a recent thread on a very similar topic (favorite moment from the show), so it seems like they should be combined into one thread, rather than having two threads going simultaneously, one with single favorite moment, and one with top five favorite moments.

I love this scene also. We see the very cute side of the couple, but with them (particularly Helen) trying to hide their affection for one another. It's Helen who (almost!) loses control in this scene; Nikki just has a mischievous grin on her face.

Wonderful explanation of how you felt during this scene :) Have to say, I felt very similarly. It's an amazing scene, brilliantly acted by both Simone and Mandana.
Route66 - May 16, 2007 02:15 AM (GMT)
Great picks, XenaClark. :)
Mine are:
1. "Come back to my place" looks between Helen and Nikki
2. "When I get out of here, I'm going to show you a good time" looks between Helen and Nikki
3. Rubbing noses kiss in the art room
4. Oh What a Night deleted scene and after shag cuddle
5. Coming Out admission and snog
Honorable mentions:
Shit Happens kiss
and everytime Helen gently brushes Nikki's cheek
