Title: Muppet Musings!
Description: WAS: Member Name Musings
Washuai - May 5, 2007 03:50 AM (GMT)
I don't know the interest in mucking about and punning on member names, but I thought I'd start said thread. I hope the muppet wing is the right place. Thanks to a recent hallucination, I thought I'd kick this thread off, complete with dodgy grammar.
I don't know why, but for sometime I've been reading moderator's itsmetoo as itsmewtwo. Now, true I play pokemon, the videogames only, but there's no excuse for this kind of slip up.
A picture of mewtwo, for those that don't know what I'm on about.

So I thought I'd start a thread where people could pun and otherwise mess with one another's user names.
Like, instead of Washuai, "WatchYouEye", or I guess even Wash You Eye is questionable enough.
Maybe this is too personal or touchy for some folks? Maybe should stick to things like calling McDonald's "Quickie Sleaze". For those that might need the etymology of that: Mickey Ds is another name for McDonald's that rhymes with Quickie Sleaze.

Most, if not all of the McDonalds' in SA offer really poor service, so we (well just me and a couple of my friends) have changed their slogan from "McDonalds, I'm loving it!" to "McDonalds, I'm loathing it!"
As for my username: when I registered I was to lazy to think of a funky name, so I just looked around the office to see if I can find something to use as a name and my eyes fell on my branded keyboard... from there on I just added the "y" as a personal touch. I really don't mind puns on my username, as long as they're good!
Lisa289 - May 5, 2007 11:53 PM (GMT)
I don't think you could put a pun on mine - feel free to try. It's just simply my name and then my birthday (289 = 28th Sept). Not very creative, am I?
Washuai - May 6, 2007 01:06 AM (GMT)
You know, they never said the Babes Behind Bars phone number. Couldn't have been 1-900-Lisa289, could it?
lease a 289. Although, that's not really funny, since a Shelby Cobra 289 is a sweet ride.
There's always that bad joke about why is 6 afraid of 7. .
Lisa too ate
nine.
Microsofty. The first time I saw your sns, I had thought maybe you weren't meaning the obvious MSFT. I'd been thinking maybe you were meaning micro softy, as opposed to the company or software, lol. I'd been thinking small softy, I don't get it. I think I saw somewhere else about where it came from, though. It's odd I know I've said plenty of rubbish about Microsoft, but none of it is coming to mind. Although it's kinda
bad to bite the hand that indirectly feeds me.
If one slaughters pronounciation enough . .
My crow's soft, aye?
Cassandra - May 6, 2007 01:26 AM (GMT)
Well, I'm sure you could think of some good puns for my username since it's a bit long-winded! :)
Since Cassandra is an actual girl's name, it doesn't stand out as an obvious pseudonym. A "cassandra" is someone who no-one ever believes. As I'm a bit of a wind-up merchant (i.e. a joker/tease) back home, it actually suits me pretty well! Also I guess, since my debating skills aren't desperately good, it's probably quite apt on this board too!! :D
Lis - May 6, 2007 02:15 AM (GMT)
well mine is just my name, Lis, short for Elisabeth. most people call me Lis.
Xenaclark - May 6, 2007 02:42 AM (GMT)
Well I have had people ask me forever if my last name was Clark because my screen name. Let me just say its not.
My name started over nine years ago when I got online for the first time and had to think of a screen name. My last name is unusual so I didn't want to use that so I thought of my obsessions (plural) at the time and came up with Xenaclark
Xena + Terri Clark.
and viola

I get it! That's exactly what I thought after I've used the name, I was thinking, "hmmmm, nice and ambigious". With you on that one, I am a micro softy. Sometimes laziness pays off, you know!
sheildeb - May 6, 2007 04:29 PM (GMT)
I had my name chosen before I knew I could be creative.... hmmmm not a lurker by nature it seems. So mine is a combination of my name and my partner's name... Sheila and Deborah... Not very exciting it seems. Oh well, I'll know better next time... S :)

Google my name (two words) to read about lesbian journalist, artists, writers, and general bohemes in New York and Paris in the first quarter of the 20th century. A rich history to enjoy and explore.
I've used the name elsewheres in cyberspace. I like the ring to it.

sheildeb - i thought that might be the case. with a name like sheila you might be scottish?
i just thought cassandra was your name. figures it wouldn't be that simple with you though.
washuai is interesting though. you never said how you came up with it.

You're not the first person in cyberspace to say that, Liz. Close - Sept 89, but then that'd be 989. I use 289 (28/9) pretty much everywhere in cyberspace.

But you didn't tell us about aj57. I'm guessing that aj is not your initials as there's no 'e' (or 'l') in it! And either 5/7 is your birthday ... or you're a baked bean fanatic .... or maybe the other definition of 'Heinz 57' to do with mixed background? OK, so I don't really have a clue! Maybe you'd better just tell us (if you want to)?
Washuai - May 6, 2007 06:40 PM (GMT)
Actually, I did explain Washuai, because my current Avatar is a visual representation of that, which I explained in the sig/av thread.
http://z4.invisionfree.com/Nikki_and_Helen...topic=727&st=45I also mention it a little bit on my
homepage.
However, for those that don't like using links & since there is a very long history to my using this screen name, I'll type it up here for the lazy people.
The short story: Washu Hakubi is a character from an anime/manga called Tenchi &
Ai is the Japanese word for love, & does not stand for Artificial Intelligence.
Longer Story:
Washu is a bit of a mad scientist (I was going to school to pursue a career in Marine Biology), looks younger than she is (so do I), is mischevious (um, really, I'm not, lol), intelligent (I like to think I am), and her hair connects to crabs, which connects to the ocean, which I'm ocean obsessed, though not so much I style my hair in ocean themed ways. It speaks to my interests in anime, videogames, Japanese culture and language.
More on Washu.Back, when I thought I was straight, I started role playing Haruka Ten'ou (Sailor Uranus from Sailor Moon). Some what out of character, although it was 100s of years after the show ended, Michiru was breaking Haruka's heart, which led to Haruka getting close to Makoto and I being an American with a penchant for the way the Brits use love to refer to people, decided to create a faux honorific -ai. Also, the -ai ended up being a great way around taken names.
The Japanese use honorifics that modify someone's name to make a new name with specific meanings, like -chan (little), -kun & -ko (endearments indicating respect, & often attraction, though not necessarily mutual).
I used haruai, up until my ex fiance (my first love, the woman who played Makoto) broke things off. At that point in time, it was emotionally too painful to have be reminded wherever I went around the internet. Plus, I'm really personally more like Michiru, than Haruka, anyways, so Haruka wasn't a good representation of me. I went with Washu, another anime character I really like that I felt was a better representation of me and I tacked on the -ai and here I am. I still use haruai some places, because I wasn't going to start over my account.
Washu is an eagle's feather (I need to update my home page, but I'd read it was wing, not feather), which eagles, America, American.

The 57 does have to do with my birthday, I wish it was just the month and day, but it's actually the year, making me the big 50.
aj is short for Ajax, a town just east of toronto, where I live.
Nowhere near as exciting as some of you guys, I know.

Ooo party in Ajax this year! Congratulations, aj. :) I live in Toronto because I like concrete and smog. No, seriously, when I left St.Lucia, I decided it was urban or nothing, since, if I wanted trees and fresh air I coulda stayed there and had better weather.
Um... on topic, my name was chosen because all other fans of the show (at the time I got hooked many years ago) seemed to be Brits, Aussies and Kiwis, with the occasional South African or European thrown in to stir things up. This name was shorter than the more accurate WestIndianAmericanLivingInCanadaBadGirl.
When this board was in its infancy, I considered shortening my name to just CBG, since I was living in the UK and the name seemed disingenuous. Good thing I didn't bother, because here I am again!

Considering how much of my time is spent trying to stop money launderers from getting access to the banking system, I've always assumed they were paid much better than I was! I was hired in NYC by a Canadian bank, but I grew up in St.Lucia. I've been bouncing back and forth between the US and Canada (with one stint in the UK) for the last 12 years.
I'm easily bored at work, so I tend to change jobs (within the same company) every couple of years. Itchy feet, not a life of crime. Less exciting, but I have no desire to be a real life "Bad Girl"! I guess there's nothing left to figure out, now that the origin of the name has been revealed.
And about the "geriatric" forum, one of the founding members was 19. She had disappeared now as she prepares for final exams at uni, but maybe we'll see her about again this summer.

we do have it over here. i actually quite like it on the rocks. seems they've come up with two new flavours - mint and caramel. i don't think i'll try them though.
Washuai - May 8, 2007 09:09 PM (GMT)
I like Baileys, too. I can't remember if I first had it by itself or in coffee. Mostly, I have it in the form of a white witch (one part Baileys to one part Tuaca). Which should have been a shot, but the bartenders all seem under the impression I'm asking for a cocktail, or something, given the fact I think the smallest this drink has ever been served to me was in triple shot form. They certainly don't serve me triple shot vodka gimlets, even though they charge about the same! All of said bartenders had never heard of it, though. I'm not much better, even when I have made it. I forget and make it a double, because I use a shot glass to do the measurements.
I don't think I want to try mint and caramel, either.
Anyways, ok, so outdated, is about the fact you drink less Baileys, these days, gotcha. I had the same confusion.

Yes, it is very sweet, but sometimes I'm in the mood for sweet. Tuaca on the other hand is spicy and 70-80 proof. Tuaca is an Italian Liqueur.
To quote:
"Tuaca is a premium golden amber liqueur redolent of fine aged brandy and elegantly focused Tuscan fruit essences. Artificially blended with hints of vanilla and orange flavors."
Yes, actually Tuaca is I guess regularly either taken as a chilled shot by itself or in a cocktail.
It makes a good substitute for Cointreau, which makes a good substitute for triple sec (well I'm not so sure about the triple sec, but whatever your basic orange mixer is).

A White Witch however, is a shot drink, not a cocktail (even if that's how it has been served to me).
