Title: Fifa World Cup 2006
Description: Who Will You Cheer For ?
Puck - June 1, 2006 02:38 AM (GMT)
So tell me....this June is the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
Who will you cheer for ?
I'm all for the English...is Manchester in or is it Liverpool or what ? I seem to forget the teams...
sunshine - June 1, 2006 09:10 AM (GMT)
my favorite are England, Netherland and Potugal. I hope that one of them will be in final
HuskiesFan - June 1, 2006 12:45 PM (GMT)
I have to support the US team who just played their final warm-up game locally. :kick

Hey, BGs...
Looking forward to watching some of the matches in the next month...
Go TEAM USA!!! :)
abzug - June 8, 2006 03:29 PM (GMT)
The problem is, even if the USA manages to make it out of round one, unless they do so in first place (which will be tough, given the other teams in their group), then they are most likely facing Brazil in their first single-elimination game, so they'll need a miracle to win that one. They got a really tough draw. <sigh> But with soccer, anything can happen, that's for sure. That's why we all watch.

Now, Ningi...settle down. It's too early for such accolades! :D

Yeah, the Americans, as always, disappointed. Even when they win, I never think they play beautiful soccer, so its tough to be a fan.
Did anyone see the Sweden vs Trinidad and Tobago match? It was the most exciting 0-0 tie I had ever seen. T&T were totally outmatched, and yet managed to hold of the Swedes from scoring, even when they were only playing with 10 players (which was almost the entire second half)! It reminded me of why soccer is so exciting to watch--you really never know what's going to happen.

well ideally our bosses should let us all go across the road to the brooklyn hotel (which happens to also be our namesake! when the CEO and MD were brainstorming a name for this company, they were sitting in 'the brooklyn', having a few bevvies and lo and behold.....we were called 'The Brooklyn Group'!).
i just don't think the game will be worth missing my beloved sleep over! ;)

Can I just say, what the F*&K?!?! The first 30 minutes or so of the Italy v US game was actually some good soccer (surprising from the US, given what crap they showed us against the Czech Rep). But THREE red cards?!?! I mean, you've got to be kidding me! Who can play soccer 10 v 9? Its just impossible. I've played with 9 players before. Horrible to play, horrible to watch. What a complete mess. I don't know what the ref was thinking.

I completely agree!!! The USA red cards were a joke...no warnings and not red card offenses either. Italy was totally outplayed for the first 30 minutes...now we have to face Ghana missing two crucial players.
I really hope that ref is sacked!!!!
bc gal - June 17, 2006 10:50 PM (GMT)
BGs, I agree... it was hard to watch :o
Thank goodness we held tight in the 2nd half.
Hopefully with this boost of confidence, they can sustain play and be aggressive Thursday during Ghana match.
We have a dose of hope, girls...and sometimes, that's everything!
GO USA!!!! :)
Puck - June 19, 2006 10:49 PM (GMT)
France and S. Korea tie 1-1...France and the Swiss tied 1-1...I'm beginning to wonder about you, Thierry !!
:-P Anyway, HOORAY FOR ENGLAND !!!!!!!!!!! AND GERMANY, w00t !!!!
so USA and Italy tie as well..it's like....the year of the Ties !!!!!!!! Stop it !! Oh that game made me SOOOO mad....I mean....the first Red Card made sense, de Rossi BLOODIED McBride ! And then...that late tackle....I mean, the ref was OBVIOUSLY making make-up calls......as well as make-up red cards....what a VIOLENT match ! The one goal USA made wasn't even scored by a player on their team...hello, Zaccardo accidentally knocked into the Italian goal...
GO GHANA...sucks for the Czech Republic....they had played so well against USA before...
