Title: Quick! Lesbian Bars in London?
Description: No more aimless wandering

Hi, my gf and I just spent an hour wandering around Euston Rd trying to find this lesbian bar which was listed in Time Out London. We found #194, but I swear to you, #190 DID NOT EXIST. We checked Euson St as well (because, hey, having two streets of the same name right next to each other would confuse anyone, even Time Out). And this has happened to us before when seeking out gay bars in other cities. It's like they're on track 9 3/4 or something, only to be seen by local lesbians, and not visiting ones. :(

SOOOOO, since I no longer trust guidebooks, magazines, or websites, bcan anyone reccomend a lesbian bar in London that they know exists, and they can tell me how to get there? My gf would be ever so appreciative. Ideas before Sunday would be good, because Sunday is the last night when we could go out to such a place.

Thanks in advance!

Oh, show me the way to the next whiskey bar
Oh, don't ask why, oh, don't ask why

So...did you ever find one? <G>

Well, sort of. First, we found out why we couldn't find the bar last night. It has no signs, no building numbers, and is a stone building in a park. Which we totally walked by, but it looked like a maintenance building, or something like that. And appeared totally closed and deserted from the outside. Definitely NOT lesbian-bar-like. Sadly, it's not open Saturday or Sunday nights (for reasons too mysterious to even ponder, I'm assuming), so we're not going to get to go back. Then we found a website for another bar (The Candy Bar--who comes up with these names?), which sounds more club-like (3 floors etc), and it's relatively near the hotel, so we might check it out tonight after the theater. If we don't lose steam. :)

LOL on Candy Bar.

And closed on a Saturday night?! What's up with that?

So...no one's opened a Chix in London, huh? <G>

If you were looking for the Glass Bar at Euston Station, it's in one of the pillars at the entrance to the bus lanes at the station. It's that small!

The Stars at Night is recommended but isn't open on Sundays. It's on Whitecross Street just south of Oxford Street and around a couple of corners from the Candy Bar.

I haven't been to Glass Bar in well over a year, so not sure when it's open, but I was at "Stars" in June. It's tiny, as well.

The other place I'd recommend is Southopia, (same ownership as Glass Bar) but that's not is Soho and the area around Kennington Tube station might be considered a bit dodgy.

If you want to know where all the one-off parties and club nights are, I think your best bet is to pick up one of the free gay newspapers/magazines. They're usually available at "First Out" a small coffee shop on St.Giles High Street - near Centre Point - one block east of Charing Cross Road and just south of Oxford Street. First Out is also a great place to have a coffee and watch the world go by. Queer and vegetarian, it's a great meeting point and Friday night was advertised as Women's Night.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

A.

You could also check out the listings in Diva, but then again, I don't know how up to date they are http://www.divamag.co.uk/diva/listings.asp
