Title: BG S1-3 on iTunes
Description: Just announced via Logo
abzug - January 11, 2008 02:08 PM (GMT)
Hey everyone! All unedited episodes of S1-3 are now available for purchase and download on iTunes! This is amazing! It's the first release of S2-3 in the US, since we don't have those on dvd. Spread the word to your American friends who didn't want to buy a region-free dvd player.

i should know this, i'm sure, but did the logo broadcasts have the DVD music and score or the original broadcast music and score? and if it's the latter, what about the iTunes release?

Also, what is meant by 'unedited episodes'? Is it as per the UK released DVDs that are supposedly 'uncut'?
ekny - January 11, 2008 05:04 PM (GMT)
I thought Abzug meant uncut/unedited, as opposed to Logo.

Ah... makes sense! Thanks, e.

That is what I meant, but I don't know the answer to the music question. I've been meaning to check the Logo broadcast of the S3 finale to see the club scene, and I'll probably download the S3 finale from iTunes as well to check the music. But if someone else gets to it ahead of me, let us know!

really, i just have it in for ekny. i know if the music is as originally broadcast, she's going to have to drop another $70+ on BG. :devil

The Logo broadcast of the finale did not have the original music. If the itunes version does, which I seriously doubt, then someone please let us know. The show being available on itunes is seriously cool.

Right. Because I'm too busy pissing my extra income away on frosting my hair and bodywraps.

Wow, that is sad! I had no idea! Why wouldn't they use the original music? I mean, did they only pay for the rights to the music for UK broadcast, and not for international broadcast? Why do that? If you choose the music, it's part of the artistic vision, and then it's like they don't care about making sure people see that vision....

Is there some way, in your job capacity, that you can check out how often this happens (ask the songwriters' union or something?) Because I have noticed it from time to time in other series, etc. (Of course, I used to just think I was mis-remembering something and the mind was turning to jello. <G>)

It's called liscensing and it happens ALL the time...
Rights are arranged for the initial "broadcast" (this includes cable shows) and may or maynot, and usually don't, include future releases. Each peice of music has it's own contract allowances and limitations.
abzug, I have to say, I had NEVER heard the music from the S3 finale bar scenes until I read your CloseUp piece at Bad Girls Annex (terrific piece I must say). Thanks so much, makes a whole slew of difference in reading the ending scenes. Of course the music is part of an artistic vision, but $$ is the bottom line not art. Studios which have a music/record affiliate will often have a music director who interfaces with producers to try and get affiliate music on the shows...Deals are made. It works both ways. Shows can get music for cheap or nothing; multinational music congolmorates get free exposures. This isn't the only model where music rights are concerned it's all open for negoiation. Keep in mind that years ago, the song which played on ER when Dr Ross and Nurse Hathaway rode off into the sunset garnered a 650% increase in sells for that song. $$$$ and artistic vision, sometimes partners, sometimes not. Sad but true.
Think of it this way, Shed Productions just made some more $$ liscensing with iTunes no matter which version it is.

Here's an example from american afternoon tv.
I don't watch the soap "One Life to Live," but I just happened to find out and catch it during one airing in which the entire background score was the music of Melissa Etheridge which was actually very skillfully worked into the theme of the show and even commented upon, obliquely, by the characters. I wished I had taped it and knowing that it would run again that night on Soap Net I asked a friend to tape it for me... Cut to when I got the tape in the mail and...there was nothing but generic music in the soundtrack and not a single M.E. song. And that was just a matter of a few hrs. between original and evening re-run of the same show.

I have BG on DVD, can I put it on my CD Rom on my Computer and transfer it to my IPOD. I have 4GB, would that be enough?
