Love, hurt and confusion
Hey hey people!
Well thought I would start something a bit different it half fact and half fiction. The characters I use are complety owned by shed I have only just borrowed them.... the story on the other hand is my way of sharing heartache, passion, desire and confusion.
Any feedback given whether good or bad will all be welcome. Your opinions are as important as mine and everyone elses.

Chapter 1
Nikki opened the door into her flat whilst juggling with all the bags from her weekly shop. Closing the door with her foot Nikki dumped the bags on the kitchen table and collapsed in a chair resting her head on the table. "What a friggin day!" The past few weeks Nikki really hadn't had time for herself she had either been working twelve thirteen hour days as a painter decorater or travelling backwards and forewards to the hospital to visit her mum. Nikki put the shopping away bit by bit as she hummed along to the radio, as the door of the cupboard closed Nikki rested back onto the worktop and sighed "I need a beer" reaching into the fridge Nikki cracked the top off a bottle of bud and walked into the lounge picking up the remote for the CD player Nikki collapsed on the sofa. Pressing the random play button Nikki closed her eyes and allowed the first few notes fill her ears.
These were the times when Nikki felt most alone, when she had left the hospital, finished work and closed the door behind her. Her partner of 2 years Trisha had left to pursue a new career in Australia and although Nikki new they would never spend the rest of their lifes together it still hurt saying goodbye. Nikki swallowed hard and took herself back eighteen months, there she was standing in the departure lounge with Trisha next to her dreading having to say a simple word as 'goodbye'.
"This is a final call for a passenger Harris to gate 23 please" Trisha looked at Nikki "Guess thats me?!" Nikki took her hands out of her pockets and turned to her lover "You better go else you'll miss your flight!" Trisha looked at her ticket then into Nikkis eyes "If you ask me to st..." Nikki stroked a stray piece of hair behind Trisha's ear and paused her sentence by pressing her thumb on the lips "Shhh... I love you but you have to do this for you. I've got my mum to think of Trisha, me and what I want and need aren't important right now." Trisha held Nikki's hand to her face and kissed it "Is this a goodbye?" Nikki brushed away the tears of her lover "No sweetheart it's just... it's a see you in a little while" Nikki placed a kiss on her lips. As Nikki pulled away Trisha held her gaze and a whispered "I'll never stop loving you" their hands stayed together until Trisha walked onto the platform to the plane.
Nikki snapped back into reality with the sound of a message coming through on her phone. Opening the cover it was her mate Caroline 'Hey hunni off 2 ORANGE 2moro will pick u up bout half 9 no buts it'll giv u time 2 get shower from hospital luv ya mate x' Nikki smiled to herself. Nikki wasn't a big talker but her friends new when she needed to let her hair down and with it being a month since a last good session Nikki just went along with it!

The shrill of the alarm went right through Nikki it was half past six and time to get up for work. Sliding on a white t-shirt and dungarees Nikki plodded down the stairs and clicked the kettle on. Downing a quick cup of tea Nikki laced up her boots and her fleece and opened the door. Zipping the fleece right up to her chin Nikki closed the door behind her and hoped into the van.
"Hiya Nik mate your early" Nikki closed the door behind her into the office of her work place. Since leaving school at sixteen Nikki went onto college to become a painter and decorator and was currently doing an open university course to become an interior designer. "Hiya Von, yeah wanted to do a bit of coursework before I started that ok?" Yvonne her boss and friend since Nikki was a baby walk passed and ruffled her hair "Sure it is bud I'll make you a coffee" Nikki smiled and grabbed her papers from the top of the filing cabinet. Yvonne walked back into the room with two hot mugs of coffee and paused at the doorway to watch Nikki working. So much passion for her job and future and so dedicated to everything and everyone that happened to be in her life. Yvonne new how hard it was for Nikki she had been there for Nikki since she found out her mother had cancer six months ago. Never once had she seen Nikki shed a tear or show a bit of emotion, it was almost as if Nikki had erected this wall to block out anything from hurting her. It was just like a part of her had died inside of her.
Nikki sensed someone was watching her and looked up to the doorway "What?" Yvonne smiled and shooked her head "Nothing didn't want to disturb you whilst you were working" Yvonne crossed the floor and placed the coffee on the windowsill behind Nikki. "So what you doing for your birthday next moth then?" Nikki put her pen down and grabbed her coffee. Screwing her nose up "Nothing" Yvonne almost choked "NOTHING Nikki you can't do nothing for your birthday" Nikki frowned at Yvonne "It's only my twentyfourth it's nothing really important." Nikki laughed a little "Yeah well whether or not you think its important your doing something" Nikki rolled her eyes and dropped her head back down to carry on with her sketches.
It was quarter to eight when Nikki looked at her watch then out of the window again "Where the fuck is she?" Yvonne looked at Nikki and laughed "I tell you I'm gunna buy that girl an alarm clock she's always sodding late it doesn't set a good example to customers keeping them waiting you know! And what you laughing at?" Yvonne covered her mouth with her hand "Nothing love I just don't envy Denny turning up thats all!"
Nikki smiled and glanced back out the window,"Shes here right I'm off I'll see you bout half four ish Von" Nikki grabbed the van keys and folder and walked out the office. Yvonne watched as Denny skidded to a halt in front of Nikki, Nikki threw the folder into her arms and pushed into the direction of the van. Smiling to herself Yvonne turned her attention back to the phone ringing next to her "Good morning Atkins decor, how can I help?" In strips

Chapter 2
The sun had begun to burn its way through the haze of the morning and the day had become quite warm. Nikki stepped outside and undid the straps of her overalls and allowed them to fall to herside pinching her nose and taking a deep breath Nikki gazed up at the beautiful blue sky. Taking a bottle of water from the front of the van Nikki laid back on the grass for five minutes and watched as the small white clouds moved above her. She used to do this as a child with her grandpa, they would lay there for hours laughing ad making shapes out of the clouds. Nikki smiled intently to herself and spoke an almost whisper "Miss you Gramps"
Jumping up from the ground Nikki took a drink and wiped her forehead and re-entered the house. Walking through the hallway Nikki entered the lounge and found Denny sat texting. "Is she the reason you've been late for the past few days then Den?" Denny looked up and shoved the phone in her pocket "Do you want me to cut in that wall there?" Denny walked over to wall in a vague attempt to avoid the question. "Yeah it does! Why don't you bring her tonight?" Denny nodded "Might do"

Caroline sat on the desk whilst Yvonne typed away on the computer "You need to find Nikki a nice lass to take care of her Caroline!" Caroline nodded "I know thats why I'm taking her out tonight. Jess has a friend who's coming over for a few days they seem like they might have a bit in common." Yvonne got up from the chair and opened the filing cabinet "Yvonne is Nikki ok?"
Yvonne removed a file from the drawer and closed it behind her "Honestly?" Caroline nodded "No I don't think she is" Caroline fiddled with the cuff of her top "I'm worried bout her Von. And I mean really worried, she looks so tired and none of us hardly see anything of her, I know shes spending all the time she can at the hospital its just shes gunna make herself ill!" Yvonne sat on the desk next to Caroline "I know love it's just Nikki's way of coping. All we can do is be there for when the time comes and she admits she can't cope" Caroline laughed "Nikki Wade admit she can't cope thats a good one"

Nikki jumped the stairs of the hospital two by two, stopping briefly she took a deep breath before opening the door onto the ward. Still in her work gear Nikki plodded through the ward waving and saying her hellos to all of the nurses. Nikki paused at the door to her mothers room and leant her head on the door frame and watched as her mum and dad sat and laughed at the TV. "Hey kiddo you just finished" Nikki laughed even at twentyfour years of age her dad still reffered to her as kiddo. "Yeah just wanted to say for a few minutes" Nikki plonked herself down in the chair she had occupied so many times before. "When you gunna find urself a nice young lady then Nik?" her mum had shifted round to face Nikki "Your looking better mum any idea when they're gunna let you home?" Nikki said it with such a straight face and her dad had to actually hold onto his wife in an attempt to hold her from falling off the bed in a fit of giggles. "What you two laughing at? It was a serious question?" her mum shooked her head "All being well it'll be day after tomorrow. You gunna answer my question now?" Nikki laughed "I'll work on it"
Nikki had left the hospital a few minutes before nine and had almost broken every speed limit in some vague attempt to get home and washed in time for Caroline to pick her up.
She dressed casually in a pair of faded blue jeans and a t-shirt a little make up and the ruffled effect of the dark curls finished off her preparations just as the car horn sounded outside. Completing the three point check of phone keys and money Nikki let the door close behind.
Chapter 3
Cascada's Eva echoed throught the entrance of the nightclub Nikki glnaced over at the sign ORANGE in bright neon lights pierced the buildings dark exterior.
Nikki noticed the mini skirts walking through into the club. The shaply legs and figure hugging outfits left nothing to the imagination but Nikki sure as hell wasn't complaining.
Nikki stood at the bar oredering the last of the drinks as Caroline and her partner Beth carried the drinks back and fourth to the table. A slender figure caught Nikki's eye. She seemed to breeze past Nikki leaving a faint a smell of her perfume fresh in Nikki's nostrils. Nikki glanced down at the beautiful shaped arse and watched as this godess stood next to her "Nice arse!" Nikki froze 'did I really just say that out loud? No I can't have done, god what if I did?!'
Just then a soft sultry scottish tone rang in Nikkis ears "Yes you did!" Nikki glanced down looking puzzled "I did what?" a curl played on the womans lips "Say nice arse out loud. I could tell you were wondering whether or not you had really said it. And well you did"
Nikki rested her head on the bar hoping it would open up and swallow her. Looking back up Nikki looked back into the most gorgeous heart warming greens eyes she had ever seen "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean it" The woman pretended to look hurt "So I havnt got a nice arse then?" Nikki stuttered "No... I mean yes.. well what I mean is..." Nikki had gone a deep shade of red. The stranger planced a hand on Nikki's arm, "It's ok I knew what you were trying to say" With that the woman turned and left.
Nikki carried the last of the drinks back to the table with a goofy grin on her face "I'm going for a walk round" the crowd looked at eah other and watched Nikki walk off in search of this temptress that had just invaded her life.
Caroline snaked her arms round Beths waste "Who's she got her eye on then?" Beth laughed "That one there in the red top" Caroline followed her lovers gaze "Do you think she'll go for it?" Beth laughed "When does Nikki never go for it?" They both laughed and watched as Nikki placed a drink in front of the stranger.
The stranger looked up "Whats that for?" Nikki smiled her wicked smile "An apology"
Stretching her arm up towards Nikki she spoke "Apology excepted. But I dont even know your name" Nikki took the hand in her own and lowered her lips to the palm "I'm Nikki, Nikki Wade" The Scot lost her breath for a split second witht the breath on the palm of her hand "Well Nikki Wade, it's a pleasure to meet you I'm Helen Stewart!" Helen smiled at Nikki "Care tio join us?" Nikki sat in the empty space which Helen had just patted "I'd love to" In strips

Chapter 4
The night went on the vodka flowed and the flirting continued. Helen grabbed Nikki's hand "You ow me a dance!" Nikki placed her drink on the table "Do I? Says who?" Helen leant forward her hands on Nikki's knees "I did" Helen touched her nose to Nikki's "Will you dance with me?" Nikki smiled tilted her head up and kissed Helens nose "I'd love too" Helen bit her lip and led Nikki by her hand to the dance floor.
The songs slowed and couples began to slow dance, Helen noticed Nikki was starting to look uncomfortable and pulled her closer "Don't leave me stranded with all the loved up couples" Nikki lookd down at Helen her green eyes pierced Nikkis heart "I wouldn't dream of it" with a little giggle Nikki settled into the dance and began to feel totally relaxed.
The time passed quickly and the club began to start kicking the punters out Nikki was finishing her drink whilst attempting to text someone. Helen pinced her phone type in her number and went back to her friends. Nikki was left bewildered and followed Helen back to the table.
Crouching down in front of her Nikki leant forward and spoke to Helen "Although I wanted your number I was kind of hoping our night wasn't over?!" A smile played on Helens lips "Good. I fancy a coffee want to go across to starbucks?" Nikki nodded. The pair said their goodbyes to their friends and left Orange together. Nikki went to open the door of Starbucks then paused "Better idea" Helen looked puzzled "How does homemade coffee, quiet music and a comfy sofa sound?" Helen relaxed again "Perfect" Nikki let the door of the cafe close "Come on then"
As the pair made the short walk back to Nikki's flat Daniel Powters Bad Day rang from Nikki's pocked Helen began to laugh "Does it fit your life right now?" Nikki nodded "You could say that! Excuse me a minute. Hello?" Nikki looked at her watch "Half two... I'm on my way home... maybe... yeah... don't count your chickens..." Nikki turned to Helen and smiled then mouthed sorry. "Yeah I gotta go... I'll ring you tomorrow ok?... Bye Caroline" Nikki clicked the phone off.
"Sorry bout that!" Helen dismissed the apology "Don't worry about it." They approached Nikki's front door, Helen noted how things began to feel awqard between them "Nikki?" Nikki stopped from putting the key in the look and turned round "Yeah" Helen leant forward and kissed Nikki on the cheek. Nikki smiled "Whats that for?" Helen rubbed the lipstick from Nikkis cheek "Just to say thank you for a wonderful night, in case I forget!" Nikki smiled "The pleasure was all mine."
Turning the key in the lock "Come on lets get a coffee" Nikki pushed the door open and allowed Helen to pass. Turning the hall light on Nikki closed the door behind her "Nikki this is gorgeous" Helen stood in the natural coloured hall, light oak laminate flooring clicking beneath Helen's heels lit the room from the floor up. Spot lights made a pathway towards the dor going into the lounge and dining room. Nikki pushed the lounge door open and click on the light "Take a seat and make urself at home. I'll make us a drink" Helen walked closly passed Nikki "Thanks, mines milk one sugar" Nikki laughed "Coming right up"
Helen took in the lounge so minimal yet so warming. A natural coloured carpet set off by a warm chocolate rug lay in front of the fire place. The bokcase home to hundreds of books and CD's. Helen ran her finger through the collection, it ranged from Sarah McLachan to Keith Urban.
Nikki walked into the room to find Helen sat on a large cushion on the floor "Whats wrong with the sofa?" Nikki placed the mugs on the glass coffee table "I prefer it down here. Join me?!" Nikki turned the main light off and turned on the light of the fire. Walking over Nikki pressed the random button on the CD player then sat down next to Helen.
"You know I've really enjoyed tonight Helen" Helen nodded "Yeah me too.. but my feet are killing me" the pair giggled as Helen tried to remove her shoes. Nikki crawled forward and undid the clasp on Helens shoe "There you go" Nikki put the shoes to one side "Thanks" Nikki held Helen's right foot in her hand and began to rub it "No problem"
They stayed like that for ages. Nikki was layed back against the sofa rubbing Helen's feet. The pair talked about anything and everything, from love to hate films to music "Ok then what's your favourite break up song?" Nikki thought for a moment then reached for the remote, she changed the cd and pressed playing "This one" Nikki closed her eyes and leant her head back Helen listened to the piano playing the introduction then the voice began to come through.

Helen waited till the cd clicked onto the next track the made the gap between herself and Nikki closer "Do you miss her?" Nikki layed her head on one side and looked at Helen "Not really and thats whats so hard!" Helen nodded nowingly "You feel you should be missing her but really.. your not?!" Nikki nodded "You got it in one."
Helen stroked Nikki hair "What happened between you and your ex?" Nikki turned to face Helen "She moved to Australia with her job" Helen frowned a little "And you didn't go with her?" Nikki shook her head "No."
"Why not?" Helen sat up and rested her head on her hand
"Loads of reasons" Nikki tried to dismiss the question
"Like what?" Helen was now interested even more in this figure of Nikki Wade sat before her.
"My career, family you know usual kind of stuff!" Helen didn't want to push Nikki too far and tried to stifle a yawn.
Nikki looked at her watch "God it's nearly quarter to five" Helen rubbed her eyes "Really? I should let you get to bed I'll just ring a taxi!" Nikki turned sqaure on to face Helen "There's no need... You can stay here" Helen shoked her head "No Nikki I don't want to put you out" Nikki raised her eyebrow "You won't be putting me out, I would'nt have offered otherwise would I? U can sleep in my room and I'll have the sofa" Helen shooked her head "I can't expect to you to sleep on the sofa" Nikki laughed "You not... again I'm offering."
Nikki jumped up from the floor "Let me get changed then I'll flake out on here" she said pointing at the sofa "I wont be long"
Nikki re-appeared a few minutes later, dressed in navy checked pyjama bottoms and a navy blue top, her hair slightly ruffle carrying a quilt and pillow. "I've put a t-shirt of mine and some shorts on the bed if u wanna change and the bathroom straight opposite my room" Helen smiled "Thats great thanks" Nikki flashed her winning smile "No worries" Helen stepped forward and kissed Nikki on the cheek "Night" Nikki nodded "Night Helen... sweet dreams"

Chapter 5
Helen left the bathroom wearing Nikki's t-shirt and crept into the living room to see if Nikki was awake. Helen gazed at the figure laying on the sofa and smiled at the way the fires glow shone across her face. Helen knelt beside Nikki and stroked her face "You are so beautiful" Nikki shifted her head and opened her eyes "Hey, you ok?" Helen smiled "I'm fine but I need to do something" Nikki sat up "What's that?" Moving closer to Nikki Helen whispered "This" in one movement Helen cupped Nikki's cheeks and kissed her.
Helen pulled away and looked at Nikki who still had her eyes closed "I've known you for all of eight hours but I feel I've known you for so much longer" Nikki looked at Helen and took in just a t-shirt "Tell me about it" Helen layed herself on the sofa next to Nikki "I want to be near you" Nikki layed on her side and wrapped her arm round Helen "OK."

Nikki flinched when she heard the front door open, fearing it might be Helen Nikki looked down but saw her still lying there asleep. Looking up Nikki saw Yvonne stood at the doorway "What you doing here?" Yvonne started laughing and nodded towards the kitchen.
Nikki had managed to extract herself from Helen without waking her and climbing over the bakc of the sofa. Standing in the kitchen Nikki ran her fingers through her hair "What you doing here Von?" Yvonne looked at her watch "It's half past two on saturday afternoon Nikki, you should have been at work at nine this morning" Nikki swung her head round to look at the kitchen clock "Shit mate I am so sorry" Yvonne shook her head "It's fine you have never done it beofre. Thats why I came round to see if your ok! And obviously you are!" with a wink Yvonne turned to leave "I'll leave you to it Romeo" Nikki laughed "Shut up. I'll get changed then come in to work" Yvonne opened the front door "No you won't have the weekend off it'll do you good. And I want no arguements. Catch you later Nik" Before Nikki could reply the door was closed.
Nikki stretched in the hallway causing her top to rise up and show off her stomach. "Hey" Nikki turned to see Helen stood in the doorway in a t-shirt "Hey sorry did I wake you?" Helen shook her head "It's fine, wondered were you had gone got all lonely" Nikki smiled "I wasn't far away! You want a drink?" Helen nodded "I'll make them you can make the food, I'm starving!" Nikki laughed "What will it be my lady?"
Nikki put her hands on Helen's shoulders and marched her into the kitchen "Erm... beans on toast" Nikki laughed "I can do better than that you know?!" Helen clicked the kettle on "You probably can but I fancy beans on toast" Nikki put her hands in the air "Beans on toast it is then"

Helen let the knife and fork fall on the plate "That was perfect, thanks" Nikki sipped her coffee "My pleasure, now go chill whilst I do the pots" Helen frowned "You've got a dishwasher there's no need to do the pots!" Nikki laughed and threw the tea towel at Helen "Shhh else you'll give away my trade secret of a tidy kitchen. Now go sit in the lounge." Helen stood at the doorway and saluted.
Nikki walked into the room a few moments later and Helen was laid on the sofa flicking through the TV channels "There is bugger all on" Nikki sat in front of the sofa leaning back against it "There never is" Helen pressed the standby button on the remote and stretched out on the sofa "I should really go home and hav a shower. Then you can do what you need to do" Nikki turned round "Well I've got nothing planned so... well if you havn't either I thought maybe we could..." Helen laughed "I'm at a lose end for the rest of the weekend Nikki... wanna do something?" Nikki shook her head "I was getting to the point" Helen nudged Nikki "By the time you had got to the point Nikki it would have been Christmas" Nikki threw the cushion at Helen "Don't be getting cheeky" Helen threw the cushion back "Jingle bells..." Nikki jumped up and ran after Helen as she shot into the bedroom and hid.
Nikki leant on the door frame "You'll come out soon enough" Nikki could hear Helen giggling from behind the door "But if you feel the need to hide behind my bedroom door for the remainder f the day then feel free" Nikki poked her head round to find Helen collapsed on the floor in a fit of giggles. "Your all defenceless now" Kneeling down Nikki crawled towards Helen "Nikki.... no.... don't get me!" To late Nikki had picked Helen up and sat her on the bed. Nikki couldnt move for laughing and collapsed on the bed "God you so funny" Helen spun round "I don't intend on being funny"
Nikki smiled "Realy what do you intend on being then?" Helen raised her eyebrow "Naughty" In strips

Chapter 6
The pair spent the day flirting wildly with each other the lightest of touches a peck on the check or head here or there but neither daring to go further.
"You ready to go?" Nikki stood at the front door whilst Helen fastened her shoes "Yep. Thanks for dropping me home Nikki" Nikki ushered Helen out of the flat and set the alarm "It's no bother I need to go and see Caroline anyway"
The drive to Helen's was quite, neither really wanted the day to end but they didn't want to seem to forard either. "Just past this car on the left please" Nikki glanced in her mirror and parked the Mini outside the house "There we go home sweet home." Helen smiled "Oh it's not my place it's my friends, I'm on business down here for six months" Nikki tried to hide the hurt "Oh right so how long you here for?" Helen fished around in her handbag for the keys "About another month" turning to look at Nikki, Helen pushed her hair behind her ear "Thank you for a brilliant night and day" Nikki brushed some fluff from her jeans "No problem I enjoyed myself. We'll have to do it again sometime" Helen smiled "When?" Nikki smiled 'Now' she said in her head "Erm... when are you free?" Helen bit her lip "I'm not doing anything tomorrow" Nikki nodded "Okay I'll pick you up at seven then" Helen smiled "Great that'll give me time to get ready"
Nikki laughed "I meant the morning" Helen's eyes became huge "In the morning, I didn't think there were two of them in a day. Where are you going to take me?" Nikki tapped the side of her nose "A surprise but wear comfy shoes and bring a jacket"
"Great I'll see you tomorrow at seven then" Helen put her hand on the door of the car, then leant back to give Nikki a kiss. Nikki nodded her goodbyes and drove off feeling quite content with herself.

Nikki drove up thegravel drive towards the big house. Jumping out Nikki locked the car and was greated by a rather friendly chocolate labrador "Hey Sam, how are you?" Nikki fussed the dog for a few moments "Come on then wheres mum?" The dog shot off into the back yard and Nikki followed closely behind
"Hey Nik" Nikki waved "Good afternoon" Caroline looked at her watch "Nik it's half six it's the evening" Nikki laughed "Yeah well whatever it's still good" Caroline crossed her legs on the patio chair "Spill then"
Beth walked out of the house "Hey Nikki! spill what C?" Caroline held her hand out for Beth to take "Nikki is in an amazingly good mood and I think it might have something to do with that prity little thing she spent the night with" Beth laughed "Get in there Nik" Nikki held her hand up "Nothing happened, yes we spent the night together but nothing happened." Beth sat next to Nikki "I bet your dissapointed aren't you mate?" Nikki shook her head "No I'm not actually!" a smile curled on her lips "We spent all night talking about crap... I gave her my bed to sleep in whilst I kipped on the sofa... she came into the lounge and layed next to me... it... it was perfect" Caroline got up and kissed Nikki on the cheek "Don't chase her away tho Nik eh?!" Nikki nodded "Thats why I'm here" Caroline looked interested "Can I borrow your lovely girlfriend for about an hour Beth?" Beth nodded "Course you can matey. What do you want her for?" Nikki looked at Caroline "Her cooking talents and ideas"
Twenty minutes later Nikki and Caroline were wlaking round the local supermarket "I want a special picnic... something to take her breath away and you know just spoil her" Caroline nodded "Lets see what we can do then"
A while later Nikki had dropped Caroline back off home and was unpacking the bits of shopping at home. Drying her hands on the towel Nikki delved into her pocket as her mobile phone bleep. Opening the phone a message popped up 'Hey you, really looking forward to tomorrow! Sweet dreams Hxx' Nikki thought for a moment and began to text her back 'Hey urself, pleased your looking forward to it so am I. Just the two of us and the day to get to know each other. Nite x' Nikki closed the phone and set about making a picninc to blow Helen's mind away.
Nikki had colapsed in front of the TV with a sandwich and picked up the phone dialling a number she waited for the other person to answer "Hello?"
"Hey it's me"
"Hey sweetheart how are you?"
I'm fine thanks mum, just having a bite to eat. Look sorry I havn't been to see you today you ok?"
"Oh don't worry about it love dads been here and so has your nan had a few visitors actually. All being well I'll be out Monday anyway"
"Thats great news ring me when you know won't you?"
"Course I will love, listen Nik I'm gunna have to go the nurse is here to do my bloods OK?!"
"Yeah thats fine I'll probably come and see you tomorrow catch you later"
"See you later NIk love you"
"I love you too mum"
Nikki clicked the phone off and swallowed hard "Will this ever get easier?" she said to herself.

Nikki didn't sleep well that night for a few reasons. Excitement being one and the other like many nights was because she was worried. Worried what she may have to face life with out her mum, would she have to say goodbye to soon?
Nikki was in the shower at six and dressed by half past. Dressed casually in a pair of faded blue jeans, black t-shirt and stone coloured jumper Nikki busied herself packing everything into the hamper. Nikki slipped on her walking boots and unlocked the car. Raising the boot Nikki put in the hamper, blankets and flasks.
Glancing at her watch Nikki grabbed her dark brown leather jeacket from the coat peg set the alram and walked back to her car. Nikki loved mornings like this, its was the beginning of October cars were white over with a slight frost but the sun was there ready behind the clouds, ready to burn through and allow Nikki and Helen to spend a beautiful day together. Throwing her jacket onto the back seat Nikki reversed the car from out of the driveway and set off to Helen's.
