Thief Takers S3
I checked on Amazon and it seems that the tape isn't availble at the moment either...except one brand new [secondhand] tape going for £84.99
I have it on tape and could try burning a DVD, although it would be region 2.

Thief Takers 3 is for sale on ebay right now for $30. They tranfer the tapes to NTSC format so those of us in the States can watch them.
I bought copied tapes several weeks ago from the same business for $30. I don't know what they paid for the originals, but it seems like they are making a HUGE profit off us desperate Simone fans. However many copies they sell, they will still own the originals. While I'm glad that I now have the series, it still peeves me a little that people are so greedy!!

O.K. this is what I'm gonna do. I am going to mail dvd copies of Thief Takers to three people at no charge. Here are the specs
1. At least one person from USA
2. At least one person from the UK
3. If I send you a copy, you agree to make 2 copies for others on this board in your country and mail them at no charge
My intention is to give everyone possible a chance to own a copy, at no profit.
The first three posters to agree to the terms will get their very own Thief Takers dvds.

GeauxGirl,
The two people who are from the US are going to make two copies each. I assume they will be posting soon, so you might get a copy from one of them.
Since you are willing to make copies, I think you have a good chance!!

COOLUK1,
I actually bought my copy several weeks ago. I didn't know if you were able to make copies, so I went ahead and offered. No offense meant on my part.
Between the two of us, we should be able to help everyone get a copy.

we all would love a copy of Thief Takers. But so far there is only vhs and no dvd. So you would need a copy from someone on the board..

n&ha....we're taking you with us. What would happen if we were in our tour bus and something happened to the PC and we couldn't get to this board? We are definitely gonna need our own IT specialist on the road!!
OWH will be handling the books, and the cameras for live footage for music videos.

Help!!!
I read this entire thread and can't figure out who is willing to share a copy of thief takers. I'm willing to participate in the copy process to pass it on to others. Please PM me someone, I'm desperate. I might have something to barter with if anyone is so inclined.

I just wanted to thank everyone who has taken the time to copy, share, and distribute DVDs. Being someone who isn't very technical savvy I am very grateful for all of the people who are sharing everything Simone with the rest of us.

OK, so, I've now watched all but two episodes of Thief Takers. It took me a while to get into it--something to do with the accents, and how in the first few episodes all the cops were filmed from a mid-distance with almost no close-ups. I also had a really hard time understanding what anyone was saying (which leads me to believe I might do a fair amount of lip-reading when I watch tv--who knew?). But Simone's part has gotten bigger, and I really like her character. She has a HUGE chip on her shoulder in a way that makes her almost Nikki-like. Plus, she's the opposite of a girly-girl, so its a treat to see Simone in cranky tomboy mode.
(Shit, just realized the bagel I got for lunch is totally burnt on one side--how annoying!)
OK, back to Thief Takers. The other thing that puzzles me about the show is that its primarily told from the criminal's point of view, so each episode has a new main character (or group of main characters) and the cops are sort of the supporting cast each time. Very little about their personal lives or even their personalities.
A thought occurred to me as I was watching: if they hadn't cancelled this show, would Simone have stayed on it for another season and therefore not auditioned for Bad Girls? Its a scary scary might-have-been....

Step away from the typewriter. Slowly. Very slowly. Hands in the air. Good. Sit in that chair--calm, easy, easy--very good. Breathe. Excellent. Be right back with some people who are going to help, alright now? Great, you're doing great! Really. Just breathe, close your eyes. Quiet. Calm.

I love Simone's character Lucy ..she really had the hump with the character played by Amanda Pays.
Also if Simone hadn't been in Thief Takers she wouldn't have met Raffaello...and baby Skye wouldn't be

Oh, I'm glad she was in the show. I'm just also glad they didn't continue it past season 3.

My recolection of Thief Takers, when it first showed on Aus TV (where I was living)in the late 1990s, was that it was influenced by US progs like NYPD Blue. I think in the kind of pseudo doco style & the mobile camera work. I liked it when I fiorst saw it but had no recollection of Simone in it when I first started watching BG. I have TT on a video tape that I bought way back in 2000-ish but haven't watched it since. I did like Simone as a detective so will be interested to see her in Wire in the Blood. I like her bossy, tomboy streak.
I LOVED A Young Person's Guide to Being a Rock Star.

I'm two episodes into this right now (will probably finish it tonight) and am LOVING it and Simone as well. I loved her dry, deadpan response to Jess when he asked her how the sex was: "Mercifully brief." Hilarious! I don't necessarily think comedy is her forte, but she does it well, and the series itself has its tone downpat, which I appreciate.

Must disagree a bit strenuously here... I think she's not always well-served by the scriptwriting in some shows, which isn't her fault--but the scene in Heartless where they're getting ready for bed was absolutely brilliant comedic timing, probably the best pairing I've seen since Jamie Lee Curtis & John Cleese in A Fish Called Wanda. I thought she was impeccable there & was pretty floored by her skill (for me it was a standout scene in an otherwise well-intentioned but rather uneven minor film). My feeling was, if she had material that good that inspired her to such heights more often she could in fact do comedy brilliantly. It was as much as surprise to me to find that out as... well, discovering, first time I saw Wanda, that JLC could do comedy: who knew?
campgrrls - June 5, 2006 06:29 PM (GMT)
Yes I think Simone did the comedy really well in AYPGTBARS. But it was a brilliant script. Curiously it showed in NZ around the same times as BG1 was showing & the original Brit Queer as Folk. Surely a high point of TV here IMO. I think I missed the first few eps of AYPGTBARS on the first run, but it re-ran about a year later so of course I taped it all. I can see I' going to have to pull those old tapes out again some time soon.

Let me venture a theory. I think Simone is actually quite good at physical comedy, which is why that scene in the bathroom in Heartless was so effective. This makes sense given her background as a dancer and her ability to use her body in her acting. But when it comes to verbal comedy, I think her timing and rhythm are just ok. This doesnt' mean she's not a great actress. Meryl Streep is also not great at comedy, and neither is Kristin Scott Thomas (a favorite of mine).
As for YPGTBRS, I've still got two more eps to go, but now the thing I am liking most is Simone's ability to play two personas in one character. For instance, her scenes as the social services agent are a delicious contrast to her scenes flirting with every guy at their gigs, or her mercilous torturing of Jess. She was able to accomplish something very similar as Helen--she was incredibly different in her public scenes (dealing with the prisoners and screws) than she was in her private scenes (with Sean in season 1, then with Nikki in S2 and Thomas in S3). Not every actor (or script) is able to successfully show the way people are different based on who they are interacting with and what they are doing.
abzug - June 8, 2006 06:20 PM (GMT)
OK, finished YPGTBRS a few days ago, but haven't had the time to post about it until now. In a way, there isn't much to say. It was a delightful three hours, and I'd probably watch it again, which is not something I would say about Thief Takers, for instance. Simone was quite sexy in her final love scene with Jez (although I'm working under the assumption that the navel ring was a clip-on)--very bold and straightforward, which was a real treat to see. And I actually thought the two of them were ultimately quite believable as a couple. Once I accepted the fact that she might actually want to be part of this ragtag band, I didn't have many other areas where I needed to suspend my disbelief. I also liked the friendship which developed between Fiona (Simone's character) and Joe (the female guitarist). They had a good friendship chemistry going, and it was nice to see two women bonding, not competing. Why does this only seem to happen in UK shows, and not American ones?!

I thought Young Persons was great...btw Simone *does* have a navel thingy
abzug - June 8, 2006 08:17 PM (GMT)
If you're referring to that photo of her with the navel ring which I've seen posted around here, I've always thought it looked doctored--her head on someone else's body. Or is there other evidence?

She certainly does :slurp
In an interview she said...
"She does seem like a good girl ... until she reveals her belly button's pierced and she throws up in her handbag in taxis! "Horrendous - my worst habit. On three occasions I've been so drunk I've been sick in my bag. I should carry a plastic bag around with me!"
As for the belly buttons, she adds: "As a child I used to clip one of my mum's eaarrings into my belly button - maybe I wanted to be a belly dancy. Then I saw someone with a ring there and thought it looked beautiful."

Actually there is at least one article on her that mentions that she has a naval ring. Here's one I found:
From New of the World January 2001
>>>She does seem like a good girl ... until she reveals her belly button's pierced and she throws up in her handbag in taxis! "Horrendous - my worst habit. On three occasions I've been so drunk I've been sick in my bag. I should carry a plastic bag around with me!"

I had kinda hoped that my 100th post would be something intellectually stimulating...instead of a 'me, too' post. :)
I really liked YPGBRS; and yes, her interactions with Nicola Stapleton (as Jo) were great.
Btw, that, 'Wire in the Blood' and a few other things, it's like a six degrees of separation. You either worked in BG or worked with someone who did. :)
Also, if anyone is still offering up to copy "Thief Takers", I would love to have a copy, please?
Cheers
Lisa289 - August 15, 2006 05:19 PM (GMT)
I'm half way through now, having just watched ep3. I'll probably watch eps 4-6 tomorrow as i havent actually got time today :(
Oh well, I'm looking forward to finishing it.
Lisa289 - August 16, 2006 01:33 PM (GMT)
I've now completed the series.
I thought it was truly brilliant. I loved the whole thing, and it's definitely something that I could watch again and again.

I bought YPGTBARS on dvd from ebay last week and I am loving Simone in it she was absolutey fab and looks well fit. I also didnt realise that Nicola Stephenson was in it 2. Yeah outakes could have been included. Love IT!!!!!!!!

I don't know how common this is--I don't shop eBay (much less eBay.uk! :D ) but it looked kind of unusual to me & I thought people might want to know about it, given that Simone memorabilia is kind of thin on the ground: it's an auction (closing 2/15) for a Thief Takers press pack, dated 1997, supposedly including 2-pg 'interviews' w/each cast member. Looks like a new seller but current bid is just £10 (+4 post). --e
