I love, love, loved this movie.
The music, the scenery, Simone's bare back, the romantic story, the accents, Simone's bare back--it was all great.
I even had to make use of the English subtitles, because some of the accents were really hard to understand-Simone's especially. Sometimes it didn't seem possible that what she said and what the subtitles said were the same. By the way, no f-words were mentioned.

I'm a fan too. I thought it was great, funny and sad at the same time and she looked totally gorgeous!!

I just ordered the DVD of this movie from Amazon UK, so I'm glad to hear its good (I was hoping it was just decent, so good is even better!). I'll post my thoughts once I've gotten to watch it (probably not for at least a week, if not two, depending on shipping).

Can I just say, Amazon UK is fast! My Heartless dvd just arrived--whoohoo! I'm watching tonight. Monarch of the Glen will just have to wait. Although I am sure I could squeeze both in if I had to....

Double-posting, because now I've actually watched this movie, and it was quite good! Good off-kilter sense of humor, fairly charming characters. Overall enjoyable. Its also the first time I've seen Simone kiss anyone outside of BG, and I gotta say, she just does not have chemistry with male actors the way she does with Mandana Jones.
Also, does anyone know if she was pregnant during the filming of this? Because she just seemed, so, well, voluptuous. I mean, this was the first time I had seen her in a bra, but still! I was drooling rather uncontrollably. I tried to do some screen caps but failed miserably. I'll try later and if I manage it, I'll post them in the naked Helen thread.

.
I've wondered that myself, but after careful research , don't think it's true.
Here are some facts--
1. MOTG filmed through Sept.
2. Simone went right from filming MOTG to Heartless
3. She got pregnant in late Dec.
4. Parts of Heartless were filmed on the Isle of Skye
5. Simone's daughter is named Skye
I don't know how long it took to film Heartless, but I doubt it was two months. Maybe she just gained a little weight--it sure looked good on her!!

Flawlessly reasoned. Thank you, detective. :)
Now, I have to get this dvd. A lovely friend burned season 6 of Monarch for me. And am looking SO forward to Wire in the Blood (very big here on BBC-A, and I've been a Robson Green fan for ages as well). Are any of the other series Simone has done available on dvd?
I've become such a fan watching Helen Stewart. And the scots accent has left me quite vulnerable I'm afraid. <G>

I'm waiting on my copy of Heartless as well, ordered it two weeks ago from Amazon. Are you saying Wire in the Blood is on BBCA? Are they current or years behind like BG's?

Well...how long has Wire been going? I thought it had only been a few yrs. (since Robson Green was doing the riveting "Touching Evil" before that and before it was killed by being bought, like "Cracker" e.g., and turned into an american version which didn't last long at all.) I kind of think it's current, but am not sure, I don't get BBC on my cable service. PBS is way behind in showing "Monarch of the Glen," but I believe BBC-A was pretty much up to date with that from what I've heard. I'm surprised "Bad Girls" wasn't picked up by american tv before this (A&E runs Spooks)--how long now before we get a watered down american version? I kind of shudder to think about it.

I just got done watching Heartless and very much enjoyed it. Besides the obvious reason I enjoyed it, I thought Amanda's mother-in-law was awesome.
While watching some of the music scenes it kind of reminded me of a movie I once stumbled upon on HBO which I had never heard of before, but I couldn't turn off. It's called Songcatcher. Has anyone ever seen it? I thought it was very well done. It is set in Appalachia, where a college professor of musicology goes to study the Scots-Irish mountain music that had endured there for years. Aidan Quinn was in it and it even had a little lesbian story line included.

I loved this movie. I even bought the soundtrack, which is spectacular. And the lesbian storyline was so unexpected, so it was a real treat. Definitely rent it if you have a chance.

Wire in the Blood is currently in production on the 4th series...according to Robson's site, it's likely to be broadcast in the UK later in the Spring...which means that we won't likely see it on BBCA until Summer or Fall.
BBCA has only broadcast up through Series 6 of MotG....Series 7 is scheduled for September 2006.
And...Bad Girls has been licensed for production here in the US....though I can't for the life of me see how anyone could do it justice. It would be simply impossible to recreate the chemistry that Simone and Mandana had.
As for why it BG hasn't been picked up by another channel before now? Uh...I'd venture to say that they reasons why we're all so crazy about it, are the exact same reasons why it hasn't been picked up before now. US television hasn't exactly been kind or welcoming to gay and lesbian characters and story lines, with the exception of pay cable like HBO and Showtime...and they're more likely to create their own versions as Showtime did with Queer As Folk.
As for A&E and Spooks....they seem to have gone toward more reality based programming....and I haven't the slightest idea when, if ever, we'll see Series 4 of Spooks on A&E. It's a shame really, as A&E co-produces the series...and I thought the 4th was just as good, if not better than any of the previous 3.
And just so I don't go completely off-topic. I just saw Heartless...and I really enjoyed it. I thought it to be a lovely fluffy little love story....and the Scottish countryside seems to play almost as big a part as either Simone or Angus.

Getting back to Heartless
Is there a traditional aspect of the balloon release (at both the dad's funeral and mom's remarriage) and the one glass of champagne (at the wedding)??
I get the symbolism of it, just wondered if it's traditional.

Does anyone know what kind of fish Amanda gave Harry, and if it is usually served that way? I had the same reaction that he did when she plopped the plate down--Yuck!!

Thanks for recommending this. I just checked it out of the library yesterday. It seems a bit of a lesbian project all around. There are several actresses in the film who also happen to be gay, two of whom I met when I worked in NYC.

Wow, didn't know that, thanks for the additional info, glad you like it.

Not seen this film, so Googled it ...
lnteresting...the wonderful Janet McTeer who stars in the film played Vita Sackville West in the BBC's PORTRAIT OF MARRIAGE...
..isn't that right 'Sackville'?
I'll have to track down a copy of Songcatcher ~sounds really good!

I finally watched my copy of Heartless and ended up liking it more than I thought like most of you all.
Of course, with Simone looking so good it would be hard not to like the film. I thought her acting was very good. She is so good at the smoldering, controlled emotion thing. Not as good, IMO, when she has to let loose like the scene where she gets hysterical after Harry tells her that he has her husband's heart. Here some other observations:
Her youngest boy, Sean, was so darn cute and charismatic. He was good enough so you hardly noticed he never said anything. Of course, the payoff was good when he finally told Harry to "Bugger off"
Can Scotland always look as good? How beautiful it all was.
I def. had to suspend belief that Amanda could fall for Harry so quickly (he was there, what...4 or 5 days?) and within months of her husband dying. I know Angus is not my type, but really?
Simone has very lesbian hands.
http://www.curvemag.com/Detailed/51.html I liked how Simone was so unglam, seemed to make sense in this little town. But I still had to laugh at her stromping around in those boots when Harry first sees her and those green socks she wore around the house.
One of my favorite scenes was when Amanda asked if Harry was married. I liked how Simone did the whole raised eyebrow thing and eyeroll. How their argument continued as they brushed teeth and undressed for bed. I agree with abzug that Simone was deliciously voluptous...too bad they stayed pretty tight on her face in that scene.
I loved how Simone looked lying on the ground looking up at the sky. So gorgeous. And don't forget to "mind the ditch"
All in all, a great film for Simone fans IMO and an entertaining one for everyone else.

I received a copy of this dvd, last week from a VERY good friend
I loved everything about it!
The story was brilliant, funny and touching at the same time, the Scottish scenery was breathtaking, the two little boys who played the parts of Amanda's sons were just too cute for words, and as for Simone herself !!!!!! what else is there to say!!!!!
And of course there was Angus Deayton, but the less said about him the better....... I do however had to admit he played his part very well!
So thanks once again to the extremely nice person who sent it to me

NSABG ur very luck honey wish i had friend like that
i also loved this film, i was surprised at angus' actin, he was a lot better than i expected.
Simone was absolutely breathtakin the lookin up at the sky smile, the pink dress (yes i did say pink i hate the colour but all of a sudden have become a fan of it), i loved the jimjam's rain coat & wellies, Oh & the weddin dress im lost 4 words.
The boys names made me laugh, but Sean tellin angus 2 'bugger off' had me giggling.
There is so much 2 like about it & oh yea the green dressin gown
