Title: Yes, Another Weather Thread. ;)

ekny - July 17, 2006 06:14 PM (GMT)
I know, I know. But we couldn't leave it to our British friends to start one, so I'm bravely taking this trivial mantle upon mine own shoulders for a brief moment. (Plus people do come from a remarkable variety of countries on this board, so it's kinda cool to hear about what's up elsewhere. And anything cool, at the moment, is appealing. Way appealing.)

Look, it's effing hot, okay? Bitch! Bitchbitchbitch! blahblahblahwhine, blahblahmither, blahwhingeBLAH!

Specifically, it is 95ºF (35C), humidity 63%. This is like being hit by a physical, tactile wall of heat-stuff. I feel... mm, pretty much like a guppy: if I stop moving, my mouth gapes unattractively as my gills flap uselessly trying to find & process oxygen that is just. not. there.

abzug - July 17, 2006 06:35 PM (GMT)
I was thinking today was the day I wish we still had a weather thread, so thanks for starting one up again! NYC is an oven today. Not like an oven, but actually a human baking implement. I had to go home to get something during lunch, and I actually jumped in the shower while I was there, but by the time I walked the 15 min back to my office, I was just as hot and sweaty as I had been before the shower. And they say global warming is a myth?!

song_stress - July 17, 2006 06:36 PM (GMT)
come on ekny...drive the 1 1/2 hours and I'll treat you to the A/C ....if you stop and pick up a spinach and feta pie on the way ;)

Thanks, that's sweet. I would if I could. (No car. Yes I'm aware of what century it is.)

Actually in reading your reply I was thinking one of the things that extreme weather does is make people literalize their situation: you're a frittata, I'm a guppy... devolution in action.

campgrrls - July 17, 2006 07:15 PM (GMT)
Well I'm finding it hard to get out of bed cause it's frigging cold this morning. Our weather has been erratic. First we had a warm summer & mild autumn, then suddenly, when it still should be late autumn or early winter we were thrust into the depths of winter: record snow falls in the south, massive rainfalls, big mudslides, and in Auckland just very chlly and wet. Then the last 2 days it's seemed like spring weather here - warm and sunny. Then last night the temperature really did a dive again. But the top temperature today is expected to be quite high again for the middle of winter.

Ningi - July 17, 2006 11:35 PM (GMT)
I am willing to trade some of my cool or cold weather with my Northern Hemisphere friends if they would like to trade some of their hot weather with a Southern Hemisphere friend .

It is a Sunny cold 57 deg f here where I live this morning .

Now I know some of you will not be able to resist having a bit of laugh at the 57 Deg F being cold but I live in a Sub Tropical State down under and 57 Deg F is darn cold here at the moment :D .

Ningi, that sounds heavenly right now...
We are roasting in the Southern USA, too. 90's and HUMID!!

Worst part is that our alfalfa and oats are down and I'm looking at hauling in bales TUES.
I don't care for farm life too much on those days.

Ningi, you bundle up if you go out...you're still recovering, girl. :)

badgirlnuts - July 18, 2006 01:19 AM (GMT)

Hi, In my part of the country(E.Canada), the weather is sticky and hot as elsewhere. 31C and almost 40C with the humidity. It has been a very long and trying day. One of my friends was telling us that some time back, a girl was ticketed for having the gumption to take off her T-shirt and sit topless in the park, she thought it was unfair as the guys were allowed to do the same thing without any problem.lol

Ningi - July 18, 2006 02:01 AM (GMT)
B C you are welcome to my 57 Deg F :) .

As for bundling up if I should go out thanks for the advice but I have not left my house since I came home from seeing my Dr last Monday .

As for my recovering some days are better than others .

Lis - July 18, 2006 11:59 AM (GMT)
after a hot and humid summer here (we had 46 degrees on new years day), sydney is experiencing an unusually chilly winter. today was about 14, 15 i think, very cool wind and some rain (which we need so it's not at all unwelcome).

i'm off to singapore tomorrow for 5 days, so it’ll be a nice and humid 30 degrees. then i’m off to london, so the warm weather will continue. mmmm can't wait :)

You're hauling in bales in this weather? Whoa. Brutal.

abzug - July 19, 2006 02:01 AM (GMT)
The rain has begun. With pretty terrifying lightning and thunder. Please let this be the end of the heat wave. I don't think I can take it another day.

HuskiesFan - July 19, 2006 02:10 AM (GMT)
Abzug- I'm with ya. The storms are here in CT right now and they are violent with hail......the end of this nasty heat wave finally. :)

Yeah, ekny...I was roasting out there this pm. 94 degree and HUMID!
But, when the crop's ready...you harvest.

I got lucky today...Hubby stayed home and raked early and the men had all but 150+ bales stacked on trailers, wagons. We just put the trailers in the barns and sheds. We'll wait and unload this weekend when its cooler.

They are calling for some relief about FRI....we're drying up fast... :)

Loon - July 19, 2006 03:58 AM (GMT)
Western Canada is heating up. I live in between two large mountain ranges so the climate is very dry, and very warm in the summer. The temperatures are climbing daily and next week it’s expected several days in the 40’s (°C). The dry conditions combined with the dead trees from a beetle epidemic means that conditions are ripe for forest fires. I work in the woods so I’m getting nervous.

Toni~ - July 19, 2006 09:33 AM (GMT)
Florida = hot and wet

:rofl

traveller - July 20, 2006 01:03 AM (GMT)
I live in Central Canada .... Manitoba. Today is an absolutely perfect day. Sunny 29C and the sky is so blue. Great day to be at the beach!!

The rest of the week sunny with a little cloud...temps 24-29C.

campgrrls - July 21, 2006 07:23 AM (GMT)
Kaitaia gets close to that Silverballnz. Auckland is reasonably temperate.... we've just had a lot of chilly days and rain lately interspersed with some nice sunny spring-like days. And then there's been the occasional foggy morning.

silverballnz - July 21, 2006 08:21 AM (GMT)
HI there campgrrls,

Chris.

Lis - July 21, 2006 09:15 AM (GMT)
i'm suddenly missing chilly sydney after being in singapore since wednesday. today was 32 and extremely humid, 10 minutes walking outside and your clothes are yucky and sweaty :silly

we did a 3hr walking tour this morning and that was enough for one day, so it was back to my brother's apartment for a swim.

angie - July 21, 2006 04:47 PM (GMT)
We also have a very hot summer : today, 36°C in Paris !

badgirlnuts - August 2, 2006 10:33 PM (GMT)
Today it's been Hot, Steamy and Sizzling just like Nikki and Helen!!

ekny - October 21, 2006 09:46 PM (GMT)
Well, it's getting towards genuine autumn here, temps in the 30s at night, the usual.
Daylight savings time kids.

But the sneaky way I realllly wanted to bump the thread was by saying...

This is how we tell the weather round here:

The Republicans are discussing the space program. Again. This is how you know they're seriously rattled. Been doing the same thing since Spiro Agnew. --e

Lis - October 22, 2006 04:09 AM (GMT)
the weather in sydney has been nuts.

last saturday the 14th we had a 37C day (99F i think)......then yesterday we had 16C. CRAZY! i have both my winter and summer pjs under my pillow ready for any weather. it has been the hottest october for a lonnnnnng time, i think we're in for a long hot summer :o

ekny - December 8, 2006 06:56 PM (GMT)
I can't decide if our friends overseas are being typically stiff-upper-lip about not-posting news of your um, weather event or what. Sorry for the folks involved, of course, but geez: tornados in Wales & London? Not your everyday thing. I'd think this'd give people a weather-related topic to discuss for the next decade. Pretty bizarre.
