Prologue:
She stood in the reception line with her father greeting guests. These folks worked for the company office or were associates around Glasgow. Tonight was their annual dinner meeting and as CEO of the company, she was expected to act as host. She had gone out in the afternoon and prepared for the event; hair styled, nails polished, suit pressed; the works. The cream Armani suit and red shirt underneath heightened her tall, slim frame and dark features. She knew she looked good tonight and she felt it. Between meeting people, she anxiously glanced through the line; her excitement mounting. She was waiting.... for her.
One year later...
The accountants sat anxiously as the executive read over the business contract. They sat across from each other as the dark-haired woman sitting in the tan, high-backed chair took her time surveying the legal papers. The man and woman had worked a month together finalizing this financial agreement between their employer and one of the largest banks in Europe; securing Wade Motors a multi-year deal to lease luxury automobiles to bank executives throughout Europe and South Africa. This contract signalled a major step up the career ladder for them both and they knew it. It meant the difference between handling domestic negotiations and larger international contracts. The man glanced at the woman and gestered an encouraging smile. After what seemed like an hour, the executive finally picked up a pen and boldly placed her signature on the line.
Nikki Wade leaned back in her chair, slowly smiling; pleased with the outcome. "Dom, all the papers seem in order. It looks great!" She turned to the woman, "Zandra, thank you for assisting Dominic. This was a major deal...and I know it wasn't easy. But, you've done a great job of it." Nikki leaned over, extending her hand. Zandra shook it; relief spreading over her pretty features. She could finally breathe and relax.
"Thank you, Miss Wade."
"Please...call me Nikki." She relayed the informal gesture to the blond haired woman. "So...what do you think about this type of work? Is it what you were looking for... fresh from uni?
"Yes, Miss Wade... Nikki, I enjoy my work. This deal was a challenge, but Mr. McAllistair has been very supportive and guided me through the process." Zandra smiled at the man across the table. She had to give him most of the credit for enjoying her job. "I know I'll learn alot under his guidance and I'm looking forward to future negotiations." .
Nikki slightly grinned. So...all the small talk had substance; there was a sign of young worship and something more in Zandra's words. For weeks, the whole office had commented on Dominic's attention to his new assistant. Even Nikki had noticed... when she was there and not traveling around Europe arranging the bank deal. She had jokingly commented one afternoon to her personal assistant, Barbara Hunt, about how well they were getting on. Barbara had given her a pensive look and smiled, "Yes...they do look good together, don't they?" That was just like Barbara ....relaying her thoughts with few words, but conveying much.
"I'm glad to hear you're liking it here. Great job, you two. You make a good team." Nikki rose from her chair, signalling the meeting's closure. She handed Zandra her documents. The younger girl gathered all the paperwork and deposited them in a brown legal envelope. Dominic stood up, his thoughts were on his assistant. She had handled herself well with the boss. He was pleased for her.
"Dom, would you please run these papers over to Claire's firm. I'm sure she'll want to go over these and send them off. It's almost lunch time...take Zandra with you and stop by Guiseppe's for lunch. My treat...I'll have Barbara call Raphael and set it up." She walked them to the door, wishing them both a good day. Zandra went through first as Nikki shook Dominic's hand, giving him a little wink. He couldn't help blushing; the boss was on to him. "Thanks, Nikki."
She whispered back to him, "Have a nice lunch...."
Nikki made her way over to the large glass window that allowed an overview of the ground floor. She never tired of this scene as she looked down at the expansive showroom filled with luxury cars. On the left end, she could see the leasing office with it's glossy array of posters decorating the walls. The middle section was full of sedans; silver and black Mercedes; Rolls Royces for the rich nouveau and titled clientele. Large, live, plants were placed all around this interior parameter. The right side was dedicated to the sports car. Two Ferraris, a Porsche, and one magnificent Lamborghini Diablo were arranged on platforms. The walls and floors were covered like a track; black with white racing lines. There was even a starter line complete with a flag set. Nikki loved this section. She had helped design it. To the back side of this end, tucked underneath the overhang of the second floor offices, there was a kids racing area. Toy replicas of some of the luxury autos were placed on a miniature track for the little ones. Whenever Nikki was at the main office, she spent quite a bit of time on the ground floor. She felt it was important to be visible and involved in the everyday business dealings. She would wander around the autos, talking with walk-in customers, chatting with sales brokers; catching up on their deals, and just being accessible.
She was proud of the family business and pleased that Wade Motors was finally breaking into the business sphere of major corporations and conglomerates. It had taken several years to reap these awards. Her father, Nick Wade, founded the business in the early 70's after a 5-year career in Formula I racing. He had drove Ferraris for Cook Racing and won several Grand Prixs before a leg injury shortened his bright career. His real wealth came from his investment in a South African mining company early on in his career. It had enabled him to buy a nice home, raise his family in comfort, and set up a luxury automobile dealership catering to the rich, pampered, thrill seekers. Nick's racing background with Ferrari helped secure one of the few limited dealerships in the UK. His celebrity helped build the clientele over the years. Nikki had grew up with the company; working in all areas of the business, and loved it. It was no surprise to anyone when he turned the reins over to her six years ago. During that time, she had successfully led the company into the fast lane and continued her father's plan of expansion across Europe. Today there were eight sites in Europe and one partnership in Johannesburg, South Africa.
As Nikki looked over the showroom, she began to realize how relieved she was that the bank contract was fullfilled. She had worked hard for this deal. For two months she had shuttled across Europe from Rome, Madrid and the Hague to negoiate with bank solicitors; paying lip service to thick, headed executives. As Barbara would say, "Nikki, you have to stroke them." Her good looks didn't hurt with customer relations. Nikki's statuesque, dark features were striking and people seemed to gravitate towards her without her even trying. She learned early that she struck a powerful presence and she used it on occasion to debate a contract.
Most clients were aware of her sexual preference. They had either heard through the media or by aquaintances. Of course, through the years, certain customers made sexual overtures with their business in tow. She would then inform them she was a lesbian. Nikki was not ashamed of this fact. Some would be surprised; not wanting to believe an attractive woman such as herself would be inclined "that way." There were those who would act embarassed, stammering an apology, and quickly return the discussion towards business. This matter was nothing she couldn't handle. Thinking of her personal life...she needed to call Caroline, her current girlfriend. They had been dating off and on for six months; mainly over the phone and long distance. The model had left a message on Nikki's private line this morning stating she was returning to London tomorrow. It would be a great reason to take off this weekend; heaven knew she needed a good shag.
She was brought back into the present when she spied Dominic and Zandra leaving out the front entrance. Better get that reservation for them. Nikki grinned.... She liked to see her colleagues happy and she had no problem with them dating; so long as it didn't interfere with business. Returning to the oblong desk, sitting down, she pushed an intercom button. She stated her request through to her assistant. Barbara's posh voice came through the speaker clearly, "I'll do it right away, Nikki. Anything else?"
"No... that about does it, Barbara". Nikki replied, "I'm heading home to lunch with Dad. Be there all afternoon....forward any important calls to the manor...and I'll see you in the morning." Nikki started to get up, had a fleeting thought, and grinned. She pressed the button again. "Oh...Barbara, you were right. They do look good together."

Here's another chapter. Hope you enjoy...
Chapter Two:
Nick Wade was busy cleaning out winter debris around his rose garden. He carefully raked around the greenery. Ever so often, he shoveled up a pile of dead leaves and twigs into a black, poly wheelbarrel and made his way towards the compost heap located in the back of the garden. He needed to get this done; April was here and the bushes were trying to leaf out. He enjoyed working around the gardens; it relaxed him. When the flowers required more attention, Jennings, the handyman at Wade Manor, did the bulk of the bending work.
He hummed a low tune as he went about his work. To an unsuspecting person walking by, one would think he was the gardener going about his work. He wore faded navy coveralls and work gloves. His silver hair was almost covered by a denim cap. Nick Wade might be retired, but he believed in staying active. Several hobbies, charity functions, and tinkering with his sport cars kept him busy. His tall, lean figure helped distinguish his sixty-eight years. If it wasn't for the injured left leg, his mobility would be better.
He had been a widower for ten years now. Marion Wade had died too early from an undiagnozed heart ailment. Since her death, he had not been short of women's attentions. He regularly came into contact with them through his charity work. On occasions, he had dated some nice women, but he had not found one that could diminish his wife's memory. He was happy and content, for the most part. Now his thoughts centered on his only child, Nikki, and her future. She was doing a fantastic job running the business. He missed being with her these past few months. Well... it was time for her to slow down and rest. The business could float on its own for awhile.
.
A car was coming up the private lane. Having worked with engines for forty-odd years, Nick had developed an ear for car sounds and this vehicle was identifiable. He stopped his raking and listened. It was probably a family car with a fine tuned V-8 motor, medium trend tires; possibly an AWD Sport Utility. He moved towards the garden gate to view the car as it came into view. Nick recognized the silver Porsche Cayenne. Nikki was home. He exited the garden as she drove the car into the garage area. He loved this part of the manor; it was the reason he bought the property. The garage was constructed of weathered, red brick and sectioned off into six open bays. The roof was covered with English ivy and it ran down the brick between each bays. To the back side, cabinets and a table ran the total length, twenty-six meters, of the garage facility. Each bay had it own tool units and cleaning supplies. Several hydraulic jacks sat between the autos and a wheel changer was positioned in the center bay. It was basically a first-rate garage. Nick and his daughter had spent many hours together working on old cars, but to Nikki they were "classics in the making". Two older Austin-Healeys housed in the garage were her pride and joy. When she was around the house, she always made time to tinker with the cars in some manner.
"Hiya, Da..,", she greeted him with a kiss, "what's up today?"
He preceded to explain about the rose bushes as they walked towards the house, hugging each other. They carried on a good rapport; reaching the manor's back entrance.
"Fancy having a bit of lunch with me" she asked him with a grin.
"I s'pect Margaret has lunch prepared. Meet you on the patio after a wash?"
"Sounds good," she glanced at her watch, "... say in ten minutes."
Nikki discarded her black leather jacket in the hallway settee as she made her way towards the patio. Lunch was waiting outside today. Margaret, the housekeeper, had set the food on a smoky-glassed table. There was a selection of deli meats, breads, fixings, and a fruit salad sorted around the table. A live flower arrangement decorated the middle. The white iron chairs with pretty floral paddings beckoned the hungry diner. Nikki was busy making a sandwich as her father arrived at the table.
The weather was mild and clear; affording them an excellent view of the surrounding area. Stone walls separated the lawn and patio on both sides. To their right, the gardens were quietly awakening to spring's gentle rains and warmth. In a few weeks, the whole garden would be ablaze with blooms, sweet blossom smells, and bird activity. A lush, lawn area bordered the gardens directly in front of the patio steps. A badminton net was strung up on the lawn. Some croquet spikes and stakes were planted in a strategic pattern. Scanning to the left, the lawn opened up and flowed into a wider expanse downward towards an oblong-shaped pond some two hundred meters off. You could see a white gazebo nestled close to the pond's edge. To the left of it, a wooden deck with rails sat in the water's edge.
The two diners talked business for a few minutes. Nikki updated her dad on the progress of the bank contract; assuring him the terms were acceptable and they were ready to deliver on their end. Her associates had dealt with two major German auto makers a month prior; securing the inventory numbers they needed to fulfill the contracts. She went over some of the sales figures for the month. She slipped in a comment concerning Dominic's assistant. Her father still enjoyed hearing about the business and everyday events at Wade Motors.
He asked her what plans she had for the weekend. "Not much, Da...," she replied, "Catch up on my sleep….tinker with the roadster. Caroline's back in town tomorrow…maybe go uptown to see her."
Nikki took a bite of fruit salad. "Karen has done a grand job taking care of appointments… and my calendar is light at the moment. Think I'll take it easy, relax,…hope to catch up with you, Da."
"That would be splendid, Nikki."
Nick smiled and continued eating lunch…his thoughts on his daughter. He so wished she could find someone to care deeply for again. Since her breakup with Trish over a year ago, she had poured her time into the business. She had dated off and on, but nothing serious had come out of them. Caroline was her present lover. She seemed to be a nice girl. He had invited her to visit Wade Manor on several occasions for some charity function or other. He had sensed early on that their relationship was probably based more on a physical desire than emotional; he knew it was just a matter of time....
Nick sat remembering when his daughter had first "come out". She had been sixteen then; coming home from school one day proclaiming her love for a classmate. She told them she had known she liked girls by age fourteen. Naturally, Marion and he were upset at first; but, after the shock, they agreed to support her the best they could. It had never occurred to them to be shortminded. They were proud of their daughter and they wanted to be a part of her life no matter what might come of her situation. While she was still in school, they had set some rules about school work and girlfriends. It had not been easy, but they made it work. Through the years, there had been several women in and out of Nikki's life; she had grown into a beautiful woman. She had brought a few home; but no one serious. Trisha had been her only long term relationship and it had lasted nine years. They had met right after his wife's death. Over the years he had watched them grow apart. Finally, admitting to each other they had "fell out of love," they separated. This was hard for someone who had been a loyal partner and he knew the breakup had left a deep hurt in Nikki.....but, she had got on with her life.
He thought he had seen a breakthrough about a year ago when he had accompanied Nikki up north to Glasgow. They were attending the office's yearly sales dinner to honor the best brokers. Nikki had corralled him into going with her. He remembered her coming back to the hotel after spending the afternoon meeting the honorees; her face excited, brightening up as she talked about one of the new women brokers. Nick could sense her attraction to this particular one. He could still see the disappointment on his daughter's face when the woman in question arrived at the dinner with her family....all three of them; a father, husband and young son. Apparently Nikki had not known she was married. He had to admit; his daughter knew how to pick them. The woman was a looker. She was radiant. Nikki had went through the motions of the night, but Nick could tell her mind was not on the ceremonies. It seemed to have hit her hard to discover the woman was not available and had a child. On the flight back to London, she was quieter than usual. Ever so often, he glimpsed her looking out the window; deep in thought. This woman had disturbed her. He kept thinking, feeling that in some way, the woman was going to be important to Nikki's future. She could of been the one. Fate could be cruel at times. Now it was time to go back to Scotland. Maybe check on a few things....
. Nick broke the silence, "Nikki, I got a call from Stubblefield this morning...." he watched her closely for some reaction. "You probably seen your schedule for next weekend. Their annual sales dinner is on tap. He called to asked if we both were coming up this year...just to set up lodgings, arrangements; that sort and such...." She looked up at him; her brown eyes raised with interest. "If you don't mind, I think I"ll fly up with you," he continued, "I could use a small break before all the Spring charities start up. What'd you say....mind tramping around with your old man?"
"Not at all, Da." Nikki leaned over and took her dad's hand and squeezed it gently. "Give us some time together...I'd love it."
"Splendid...let's do it."
"Great, Da....sure thing."
They continued their lunch; chatting on about general things. Nick kept an eye on her. She had turned slightly to look out over the lawns. A glazed, distant look had come across her face. He continued eating, a mischevious grin was beginning to show. He didn't want Nikki to know the other bit of news Simon had relayed when he called. Not just yet....

Chapter Three:
Nikki was glad the weekend was near. She just needed to finish up a few items to free it up. Her morning was busy sorting through business issues requiring her attention; leaving the rest for Karen Betts, her administrative assistant, to handle. They had met earlier in Nikki's office going over monthly sales projections and inventory figures. This was tiring work; but, Karen had prepared and updated the spreadsheets. It didn't take them too long to go over the data. Everything was in order. Karen was a competent co-worker; very efficient in her dealings, and professional in manner. Nikki made herself a note to approve a nice bonus for Dominic and her. Both had taken on extra responsibilities during her absences, showing their leadership skills; keeping things running smoothly in the main office. Nikki appreciated these folks. In fact, there were several dedicated people at Wade Motors. The personnel turnover was minimal. The company was lucky to maintain a workforce where many enjoyed their jobs.
At lunch, she sat at her desk going over the Glasgow office's yearly report. She had asked Karen specifically to bring her a copy of this data; using the excuse about looking over the info to prep for the scheduled celebration dinner next week. In truth, she wanted to check and see how one particular saleswoman had performed through the year.
Helen Parr was back in her thoughts. Since meeting the georgous dark-blonde Scot, Nikki had routinely thought of her. She tried to keep business and her private life separate. This felt different. No one had affected her like this one. Sure she met beautiful women all the time. She had dated several; but, she never crossed the line with straight, married ones. They were too complicated and mostly kept her guessing. Even after the knowledge of Helen being married; it had not deterred her. She had never let feelings control her actions before...not even with Trisha. She still couldn't believe that spur-of-the-moment trip she had taken to Scotland last fall. She had made the excuse of holiday; driving up north....taking in the countryside. She had given these reasons to her dad and Barbara. She knew exactly why she was headed that way. Yeah, she had went up...and gotten in deeper. She thought a dose of reality might help straighten her thinking, but it had only fueled the flame. Thank goodness she had met Caroline a few weeks later.
The phone suddenly rang; bringing her back to her present task. She answered, " Hello. Nikki Wade here."
"Hey, babe....," a sexy voice purred across the line, " you better be available tonight." Nikki leaned back in her chair, desire clouding her eyes.
"Hiya, babe," she replied. "How about you coming to my place....around eight?"
"You bet. I've missed you, Nikki..."
"Missed you, too...talking over the bloody phone doesn't cut it." The desire in her voice stretched over the line. She could hear Caroline gasp in a breathe. The sound sent Nikki's senses soaring. Her stomach was twisting in a knot. The image of Caroline some weeks prior settled in her mind; the long-legged, blond in her bed, partially covered with a royal blue sheet, blowing her a farewell kiss. She longed to see her...
"Till eight..." and Caroline hung up.
Nikki smiled to herself as she put down the phone. Caroline was back and the thought of seeing Helen again had sturred her hormones in the last 24 hours. She had a plan to ease her desires for both beautiful ladies; spend the weekend shagging Caroline; enough time to satisfy her physical needs and dim those thoughts of Helen. Hopefully by next Friday, her sexual frustrations would be eased. Then she could handle seeing Helen. It was time to forget her; one way or another.
The week passed in a whirlwind for Nicki. She definitely enjoyed her time with Caroline. They took pleasure in each other's company. Their lengthy seperation had intensified their urges. When they weren't eating, drinking, or sleeping...they spent time enjoying frenzied sex until their physical needs were abated. Caroline stayed at Nikki's Chelsea flat over the weekend. They ventured out twice to shop for food and brouse for antiques. Nikki enjoyed scavenging for old furniture. She had an eye for it. The pieces didn't have to be from any specific period. They simply had to appeal to her style and somewhat blend with other pieces she'd bought. She ran across an aged bureau in Soho that would look lovely in one of the manor's spare bedrooms. She arranged for the proprieter to deliver it the following week. Nikki knew her father would like the piece; he was also a sentimental collector of old stuff. She returned to work on Monday to prepare for the next weekend; trip details had to be worked out with Barbara. She wanted to go to Glasgow with her schedule clear; in case she felt like staying for an extra day or two. The women ate dinner with Nick at the manor house on Wednesday evening. After dining, they strolled around the garden and made their way to the garage where Nikki gave Caroline an up-close inspection of her latest Austin-Healey. Fumbling playfully around the car, hands searched out and caressed. Their kisses became urgent. Fast and satisfying sex followed in the darkness of the garage. Nikki savored these spontaneous opportunities. She didn't have to think; just let desire take over, and enjoy the sensations. Afterwards, they clung to each other with Nikki supporting them against a worktable. They stood silently in the dark letting the tremors from their lovemaking faintly ease.
Caroline's voice broke through the darkness, "Oh, Nikki...I'm already missing you. Are you sure you can't get out of this meeting?" She slowly nuzzled her on the neck. Nikki leaned into the caress.
"You know I have to go, babe." Nikki softly replied.
"I know, but, I want to keep you to myself ...just a little longer."
Nikki's vision had finally adjusted in the dark. She hugged Caroline tighter and turned to look into her eyes. "I have to get back into the flow of things....just for a little bit. The bank deal has taken me away from other business. This dinner is just one of those events I need to attend. Hang on a few weeks... I promise to treat us both to a nice vacation. I was sort of thinking the Brayton in Johannesburg would be nice about now."
The blonde burst out a reply, "Oh, Nikki...you know I love the Brayton!"
"That's more like it...we'll do it, babe."
Caroline wrapped her arms around Nikki's neck tightly. She calmy made a very welcoming suggestion. "Come on. Let's get back to your flat. I want to give you a proper send-off. Don't want any unfinished business left over..."
Caroline suddenly took Nikki's hand and headed out of the garage. "Hold up, babe." Nikki stopped her shy of the night light. "I think we better cover up a bit. Wouldn't want my dad having a heart attack...now, would we?" They giggled as they straightened each others clothes and made their way into the lit area; anticipating the coming evening.

Hey, BGs...time to get Helen in the story.
here's another chapter..enjoy.
Chapter Four:
The saleswoman smiled at the elderly gentleman. "Mr. Gardner, your papers are ready. Let's walk over to Accounts and they'll fix you right up." She led the way towards the Sales Office and handed the sales contract to the clerk on duty.
"Thanks so much for your business. I'm sure you're gonna love your new sedan." She extended her hand out.
"Tis a pleasure, my dear. You're such a lovely lass...." The white haired man quickly kissed the top of her outstretched hand.
Helen Parr smiled sweetly at him. "That's so nice of you to say, Mr Gardner. Thanks, again. Please call if you have any questions. Take care..." She grinned on the way back to her office. As usual, the older gentlemen were such charmers.
She was going to be late again. A quick glance at her watch confirmed her suspicion. She hurriedly straightened the desk before grabbing her handbag and switching the lights off. Seemed like she was in a constant run lately. Hopefully, things would settle down after they moved into a new place. She walked towards the side door.
"Helen, hold up a minute. I'd like a word..." A voice rang out as she reached the door. It sounded like her boss, Simon Stubblefield. She signed and rolled her eyes slowly before she turned to face him.
"I'm in a hurry, Simon. Can this wait till Friday?" her voice questioned him.
" It won't take but a few minutes...besides, we need to discuss your duties when the top brass arrive tomorrow." He made the last statement sound like an order. What was he going to ask her to do now?
"My duties?" She stood waiting.
"Yes. You'll be standing in for me as escort for Nick Wade and his daughter this weekend."
"What!" Helen couldn't believe this. She chose her words carefully. "Simon, you know I can't do it. Not this weekend...," she strongly stated. "I turned in for this weekend off a month ago." A scowl was crossing her forehead.
"Helen, Mr. Wade has personally requested your assistance. From what I'm told, he very much enjoyed meeting you last Spring. I'd see to it myself if it wasn't for Dora's situation. I have no idea when I'll be called out. It just makes sense to me to have someone committed the whole weekend. We can't have one of our guests, especially one of the top bosses disappointed...now, can we? I would of thought you'd be pleased at this opportunity." He set his mouth in a frown.
Helen pleaded, "And what about Robbie? Who'll keep him while I'm acting guide? My dad's at the seminary teaching this week. Sean's out of town... It's won't be easy to find a babysitter at such short notice."
"Well, then you better get on it. This is a special request and we need to be cordial." Simon turned and walked off. If looks could kill, Simon Stubblefield was a fallen man. Helen looked incredulous. She was just about to explode. The man was so out of touch! Well, we'll just see about this...
Helen walked through the sliding door entrance at Glasgow International Airport. She hoped she wasn't late. Her itinerary stated their plane was to land at 4:15. It was half-past the hour now. Hopefully the plane was late. She hurried through the Central pier towards the British Airways arrival gates. "Flight 527 from London-Heathrow now unboarding at gate 17. Thank you for flying British Airways." The announcement over the intercom allowed Helen to let out a sigh of relief. Thank goodness this hadn't started out wrong. She was nervous enough as it was. She took out her mobile and dialed a number. A man's voice answered, "Johnnie, mum..."
"It's a go, Johnnie. Their flight is unboarding now...can't see them yet." She searched through the crowd of people coming through the gates.
"Everything okay?" She waited for his reply.
"We're doing grand, mum. Lad's playing with the radio...all's peaceful."
Helen was relieved. Sometimes Robbie could be a handful. She answered back, "Good... call you back when we start out." and flipped the mobile shut. She hoped the Wades didn't mind her four year old son being present. She hadn't been able to secure a babysitter for this evening. Johnnie had agreed to help and watch him while Helen got the Wades settled in. She planned to make an exit after that. They could dine by themselves this evening. She wasn't even thinking about Saturday or Sunday. Hopefully Simon would make an appearance.
Alright, come on. Helen waited anxiously. She surveyed the people coming towards her. Finally, a tall man with silver hair caught her attention. Yes, that was him. Nick Wade led his daughter off the ramp towards buggage recovery. My...he was still a handsome man, Helen thought. The dark trousers and grey sweater he wore were striking on him. One would hardly notice his limp; he carried his travel bag with ease. Nikki followed behind him; not as tall, but just as demanding. Her black travel suit and white shirt accentuated her dark features. She had a carry-on shoulder bag and held a black suitcase. Helen suspected the tinted glasses she wore were designer-made. She had to admit the woman had presence.
Helen made her way over to them. Nikki had turned the other way; looking for extra luggage as she walked up. Nick Wade saw her first.
"Mr. Wade... nice to see you again." Helen greeted him warmly.
"Ah, Helen. Nice to see you, too. Please, call me Nick." He shook her hand. "Nikki...look whose come to greet us. Helen Parr."
By this time, Nikki had straightened up and noticed her. She pushed her glasses up onto her head. Helen extended her hand out to the dark-haired woman. Instead of shaking her hand, Nikki handed her the briefcase.
"Helen, take this please. I'll grab our garment bag as it comes down," she stated and turned back towards the conveyer. Helen raised her eyebrows slightly. Apparently, someone didn't have a good flight. She turned back and spoke to Nick Wade.
"Hope you had a nice flight. I've got a car waiting outside to take you to your lodgings." She glanced again at Nikki, who was picking up a vinyl garment bag.
"If this is all your luggage, shall we go? I'm sure you want to get settled in."
She led the way out of the airport. Pushing the redial button on her mobile, she instructed Johnnie to drive to the side. She hoped things improved; Miss Wade seemed to be in a touchy mood. She addressed them both as they walked along. "I'll be your escort this weekend. Simon would of met you himself, but his eldest daughter is expecting any minute and he's at hospital with the rest of the family. We may hear some news soon. He sends his regards."
Nick was the first to comment. "Well, congrats to him! I believe this will be his first grandchild!,"he burst out merrily. Nikki finally made a comment, directing it towards her, "Great...I hope this hasn't inconvenienced you, Helen?"
Helen turned and looked Nikki straight in the eyes and smiled sweetly. "Not at all, Miss Wade. I always try to make the best of my circumstances." Nikki's brown eyes locked down on the smaller woman's hazel eyes. The two women stared at each other for a few seconds. During this exchange, they failed to notice the smug look on Nick Wade's face. Helen turned back towards the airport exit. Who put a crab in her pants? Come to think of it... she had been cool towards her last Fall when she showed up at the dealership. Funny how first impressions could be wrong. Nikki had struck her as a friendly and down-to-earth person last Spring. Well...she'd just have to get over whatever it was bothering her.

Sorry, BGs...
I must of confused some of you by my pre-Chapter Four statement..."time to get Helen in the story"
I was referring to the fact that in Chapter Four, we first hear Helen's narrative view.
I hope most of you picked up the fact that she's in the story from the beginning... :)

Chapter Five:
As they exited the airport, Helen spotted Johnnie out front. He had the trunk up ready to load their luggage. Helen led the Wades over to the waiting Mercedes SUV. She introduced him, "This is Johnnie Carr. He's been with us for about four months in the Service Department." Handshakes were exchanged, luggage placed in the trunk, and they proceeded to load up. Helen took her place next to Robbie in the front seat. He had turned around in his seat, watching the activities. His eyes widened when he saw Nikki.
"Nek!"
"Robbie! Fancy seeing you here, little man." Nikki's face lit up as she smiled back at the four-year old. Helen was slightly surprised at her reaction. So, there was still some courtesy in the woman today. Robbie was trying to climb over the seat towards her.
Helen moved him back around. "Time to buckle up, Robbie," she told him. He started to whimper and cry.
"Nek!"
Helen talked softly to him; hoping he wouldn't get too fussy.
"Would it be okay if Robbie sat back here with us?" Nikki suddenly asked. Helen turned and stared at her. "He'll be no bother...right, Da?" Nikki continued looking at Helen as if she knew what she was thinking. At that moment, Nick joined in the conversation. "Of course not! Send him back here... like a rocket ship." Nick preceded to reach for Robbie and lift him towards the back seat.
"Blast off!" The older man made a whooshing noise like an engine. The little boy giggled with joy. Nikki helped position him in the back seat; securing him in a seatbelt. She glanced at Helen and gave her a faint smile.
Johnnie directed the car into traffic; motoring smoothly towards the M8 and their destination. Nick Wade preceded to talk with Robbie about everything and nothing. Nikki sat quietly; her thoughts were finally settling down. She had not expected to see Helen Parr at the airport. When she heard her father greet Helen, it felt like her heart had skipped a beat. She had been slightly shaken. It took her a few seconds to gain her composure. She wasn't even sure she could trust herself to touch Helen at that moment, even to shake hands; afraid she would feel her tremble. Why did she have to act like a total cow and be rude. Why couldn't she just keep her mug shut. She had felt mesmerized by the Scot's fiery hazel glare when Helen had turned around and addressed her smart remark back at the airport. The woman was beautiful....and so disturbing. Thank goodness she had got a grip on herself and finally kept her mouth shut. Robbie had helped her with that; seeing the little brown-haired boy was a pleasant surprise. Last Fall, he had helped take her focus off Helen at the picnic. She had placed her attention on the boy and ended up falling under his spell. She could guess why. He was the boyish image of his mother with his slim build, hazel eyes, and slightly, dimpled cheeks. While playing with him, Nikki remembered stealing glances at Helen and Sean. The man was all over his wife; or so it seemed to her. She could barely contain her jealousy. There was just something about him that Nikki didn't like. Yeah, her subconscious mind whispered back...he's got what you want.
During the commute, Helen kept an eye on Robbie in the rear view mirror. She noticed Nikki held the boy's hand and gently padded his arm. Her thoughts went back to last October when the CEO had showed up at the dealership. She had been cordial to Helen, but not friendly like their earlier meeting. When the family had attended the company picnic scheduled that weekend, Robbie had really taken to the dark-haired woman. Nikki had gave him lots of attention. Helen remembered how Nikki made a point to squat down and talk to him; bringing herself to his level. It was sort of enduring at the time. Nikki had never talked to him like a child; and Robbie had been on his best behavior. She had even taken him for a ride in her sports car. Helen remembered Nikki promising to drive slow; so instead, she reved up the engine for Robbie's enjoyment. She definitely had a way with children; and she could be charming. For some reason, Helen kept glancing at her. She noticed her face had taken on a relaxed look and how her eyes crinkled at the corners as she smiled down at Robbie. Suddenly, Nikki looked right into the front mirror; catching her stare. Helen quickly averted her eyes.
"I hear our hotel is rather nice?" Nikki quickly asked the question. Helen regained her train of thought and turned slightly to address her.
"Yes, I believe so. It's actually an estate mansion originally owned by the Earl of Mar. They call it Mar Hall. A year or so back, the owners renovated it into a luxury hotel complete with conference rooms, dining facilities, a hair salon, and; I'm told, it houses one of the best spas in the UK. It is located close by; in the rural area of Bishopton. They boast of having one of the best views of River Clyde and the Kilpatrick Hills. It's gaining a reputation as the place to visit for honeymoons and weekend getaways."
"Sounds nice," Nikki replied.
Helen continued the conversation; speaking easily now. "Simon apparently took his wife there for New Years and they fell in love with the place. He felt this was an excellent facility to have the annual dinner. It's close to the home office, has very nice conference rooms with dining services, and a few luxuries to indulge in. I believe he worked with your assistant in getting all the reservations in order. We should be there in about five minutes."
Nikki looked out the window and thought about her situation with Caroline and Helen. Caroline was exactly what she was looking for last Fall; someone she could be sexually dynamic with, but keep her emotions intact. Their frequent absences had only camouflaged their relationship; making their reunions feel fresh and satisfying. Shagging Caroline for a week had been strictly physical satisifaction. The truth was staring back at her. She would never feel strongly for the model...or love her. On the other hand, her effort to forget Helen had crumbled and left her vulnerable. It had taken this encounter with the fiesty Scot to stretch her emotionally. Christ, she'd only been around Helen a total of five days! She knew now the Scot had never left her thoughts. What she was feeling was deeper...she didn't quite know how to describe this confusion. It was like an itch that lays dormant until something irritates it. You have to scratch it. You know you're not supposed to...but, once scratched, you have to continue scratching until you abate the itch. But it's still there; below the surface, waiting for the irritation to start again. This is shit, Nikki thought. She didn't want to control it. She wanted to scratch...

Chapter Six:
Simon had not exaggerated; Mar Hall was stunning. The estate looked every bit the majestic mansion. Its multi-shaded grey stone exterior masked its gothic appearance. Different shades of greenery enveloped the surroundings. As the car drove up towards the front lane, the magnificance of it took Helen's breath away. She could see a manicured garden to the side and an ancient looking pool. Water lilies covered the middle portion around a large stone fish spraying water out of its mouth. Several people were gathered around the pool's perimeter. They held what looked like battery-powered controls for the small boats they maneuvered in the water. Large stone pillars beckoned them to drive through and experience the grandeur of the nineteenth century. What a wonderful place. To think...ten minutes from Glasgow and she'd never known.
"Nice place..," Nikki commented, as the car stopped at the front entrance.
"Yes, it certainly is,"Helen replied.
A porter came out to greet them. Johnnie spoke with him and asked for a luggage carrier. Nikki unbuckled Robbie and helped him out of the back seat. She held on to his hand as she surveyed her surroundings. Her father spoke to Johnnie concerning their luggage then came around to her side.
"Helen, how about I take this young lad to check out the boats?" He asked with a smile. "I could use a short walk to straighten the old legs...Be back in a minute?"
"Fine...just watch him; he can be a handful sometime," Helen cautioned. Robbie gladly took the older man's hand. Off they went towards the floating boats.
"See ya, Robbie!" Nikki waved them off. She collected her suitcase out of the trunk and waited for Helen to lead the way into the estate.
Helen and Nikki entered the vast entrance hall. An array of cream chairs, burgundy sofas, and antique tables were arranged throughout the welcome area. Tall gothic windows, adorned with flowing cream draperies, supplied a natural lighting throughout the room. Crystal chandeliers hung in various areas from long chains suspended from the high ceiling. Several marble planters held large exotic plants. Helen thought it looked magnificent; this was a classy place. The owners had definitely put a lot of thought and money into the renovation. She would love to look over the hotel more. Maybe tomorrow she could arrive early and look around the place. For now, she needed to get the Wades settled and get Robbie home. It was past tea time; he would soon be hungry.
Nikki followed her to the reception desk. They made their way towards the marbled check-in counter. All the attendants on duty were busy helping other customers. Nikki took this opportunity to make amends to Helen for her earlier comment. She needed to clear the air.
"Helen...I'd like to apologize for my earlier comment at the airport. I know it was uncalled for, but I didn't mean to come off smart. I can only plead a woman's excuse of being bitchy, moody, and tired." She gave Helen a smile; trying to lighten the moment. Helen had heard about the CEO's schedule for the last several months. That could explain her moodiness. How could she not except her apology.
"No problem. I heard about the bank contracts. You must be glad to have them signed at last," Helen inquired.
"Too right..." Nikki replied, relief spreading over her face.
"Nikki, the reservation made for your father and you was for a two-bedroom suite; complete with facilities. Apparently, Simon had also booked a deluxe single room with a king size bed for him and his wife. Since he may not be attending tonight...or Saturday night for that matter, you might prefer to enjoy the hotel rooms separately."
" I see...," Nikki thought for a moment. "Well, I presume it's pre-paid. So, we definitely want to make use of both rooms. Might I extend an offer for you to use the room?" Nikki couldn't believe she blurted that out. " I mean...since you're attending Saturday's dinner, why not enjoy the hotel facilities. I'm sure the hubby and you would enjoy it...eh,Sean, wasn't that his name?"
Nikki's offer completely took Helen by surprise. She stammered out a reply. " I'm sorry, but...I couldn't. My hus...Sean..is out of town this weekend and my father is away as well. It's just Robbie and me this weekend. But, thank you for the offer. That's very generous.."
During their exchange, Nick Wade had arrived by the counter, leading Robbie by the hand. Someone had given the boy a paper boat. He moved it up and down; making wave motions, oblivious to the grownups.
Nikki turned to her father. Her mind was racing. No Sean...all weekend...this place. "Da, we were just discussing the room arrangements. We have a two-room suite and it seems like Simon reserved a single room that he might not use. I've offered the accommodations to Helen. Don't you agree she should use the room?"
"Good idea, Nikki. Wasn't it intended for the escort? Helen, you must take the room. Phone your husband and see what he says." Nick insisted.
Helen responded back to him. "As I was telling Nikki, sir....Sean's out of town and I've got Robbie to care for this weekend. It would be hard to make arrangements now."
"Nonsense!" the older man exclaimed, "Why, Robbie and you can share the room and I hear they have a very good childcare facility here."
"Of course," Nikki joined in, "You mentioned the room had a king-size bed. Perfect..plenty big enough for the lot of you.
You've no excuses to decline. Come on, Helen. This will help ease your running this weekend." She noticed the lady at the reception desk was ready to assist them. "Now, the lady is free to help us ..let's get this sorted. I don't know about you all, but I'm in need of tea time. What do you say, Robbie?" Nikki smiled down at the young boy. He nodded his head in agreement.
Helen's thoughts were spinning. Wow! Spend a weekend in this hotel! How could she turn the offer down. Who would want to! And wouldn't this arrangement take care of her biggest worry; how to juggle taking care of Robbie. It did make a lot of sense...Yeah, why shouldn't she.
Helen handed the confirmation sheets to the receptionist. The lady processed their rooms, handed out keys and paperwork, and wished them a pleasant stay.
"Are you serving tea now?" Helen asked.
"Yes, tea is served daily from 3 to 5 o'clock in the Grand Hall. If you look on your complimentary maps, you'll see the Hall lies past the lounge to your right. Enjoy your tea."
"Thank you."
Helen turned back towards the Wades. "Here's your room keys. They are serving tea now. The porter can help you get your luggage situated." She looked directly at Nikki..." If we're to stay, I guess Robbie and I should go back into town with Johnnie and pack a few things."
"Great..," Nikki said, "but, there's plenty of time for that. Right now, I insist we all get sorted and enjoy tea..."
With that statement, she grabbed Robbie's hand and asked the porter to led the way. Johnnie followed behind them. Nick Wade extended his arm out to Helen. She took it and he escorted her through the lounge. He silently marveled at the turn of events. Things couldn't be better.

Chapter Seven:
After Johnnie delivered her back that evening with clothes and essentials for the weekend, Helen had her first glimpse of the deluxe room. It was absolutely stunning. The room's decor appeared warm and inviting; mixed with cream and burgundy colors. Every item of furniture helped compliment the centerpiece; a four-poster bed. Burgundy drapes hung down each bed post and cornered the silky, cream -colored bedspread. Off-white furniture, embroidered with burgundy patterns, sat in array over the burgundy carpet. Helen walked through to the bathroom area. A sunken bathtub bordered with marble took up one side with a shower unit built next to it. Message jets were inlaid around the tub surface. On the other side a full vanity mirror took up another section. The necessities were just as nice. The establishment was definitely catering to the romantics. Helen smiled to herself. That tub was gorgeous. This was a lover's paradise; and though she was by herself, she was determined to enjoy it.
Time to pick up Robbie. She made her way over to the phone on the night stand to dial up the Wades' suite number. They had insisted Robbie stay with them to allow her to gather their clothes. Nikki answered and volunteered to bring him up to the room. The porter had left her luggage on the sofa chair. Helen began to unpack. She heard the door chime a few minutes later. Opening the door to laughter, Nikki was holding Robbie on her back; giving him a piggyback ride. She carried him inside and deposited him on the bed; tumbling with him to the side. He squealed with pleasure. Helen marvelled again how good Nikki was with children. She had Robbie eating out of her hand.
"Very nice," Nikki stated as she straightened and surveyed the room,"I believe Simon had the right idea..."
"It is a bit on the romantic side," Helen replied, smiling.
"Shame your hubby couldn't make it this weekend. Wasting a room like this..." Nikki teased. She made her way over to the wide window and looked out upon the Kilpatrick Hills. Their greenness intensified by the setting sun. "Terrific view, too."
Helen helped Robbie off the bed and he excitedly wondered around the room; checking out everything.
"And how is your suite? I hope everything is satisfactory." Helen asked.
"Of course...though not as luxurious as this room, but very comfortable." Nikki continued, "How about meeting Dad and me down at the main hall, in say...thirty minutes, for a short walk along the river? We could all do with some fresh air. Might help rev up our appetites for dinner."
"Sounds good. We'll meet you down there," Helen agreed.
"Fine...see you soon."
The evening passed too quickly for Nikki. They had taken a short walk to survey the outside area of Mar Hall before dinner. The estate had built a nice brick walkway alongside the River Clyde. Nick and Robbie led the way as Helen and she followed behind. They talked about things in general and feel into an easy converse. Later on they dined in the Grand Hall and Nikki sat directly across from Helen. The woman was simply breath taking. She had worn a matching green skirt and sweater. The colors complimented her eyes and Nikki had a hard time not staring into them. She sat there throughout the meal watching Helen handle Robbie's restlessness. Being a young lad, he was a twister and he didn't want to stay in one place for long. Of course the boy was overwhelmed from the events of the day; meeting new people and being in a strange place. Helen calmly spoke to him throughout the meal; her soothing words calming him with her assurances. Nikki couldn't blame him; she had fought off the desire to walk around the table and grab Helen up and kiss her. Ever since she'd seen the four poster bed in Helen's room, her mind kept flashing with pictures of Helen and her in it and they weren't sleeping. When dinner was over, Nick took Robbie out for a walk in the well-lit flower garden. He had suggested they meet up in the lounge area. Nikki had led Helen through to the lounge and ordered them brandy. They sat listening to a pianist play classical pieces on a baby grand. During this time, Helen had thanked her for inviting them to enjoy the hotel and how the place had such a relaxing air to it. Nikki was having trouble keeping her concentration sitting next to Helen. She felt raw passion watching Helen sip the brandy, lean her head back against the chair back; exposing her throat. What she would have given then to bury her face there; kiss her warm flesh, and tell her how she felt. But, she couldn't... She knew she had to take things slow with the Scot; it would probably freak her out right now to know how she felt about her. Nikki didn't want to take that chance. Not now.
Saturday was going just as well. Both families had met up for the buffet breakfast in the Grand Hall. They leisurely enjoyed the meal before taking another short walk around the mansion's circumference. The estate looked somewhat different in the early morning. The grey stoned walls appeared closer to blue slate. Johnnie returned about 10:00 a.m. driving a brand new Ferrari. Nikki had requested the delivery of the sports car from Wade Motors. She wanted to take it for a test drive. This was the new 599 GTB convertible; equipped with a V-12 engine and pulling over 620 horsepower. They met him at the front entrance. The Wades looked the car over thoroughly; popping the hood and admiring the engine works. Nikki felt like a kid in a candy store. Of course, she wanted Helen to come with her. She made her way around to the drivers side.
"What do you say, Robbie...you and I take her for a spin?" she asked the young boy who was on tip toes looking into the red sports car.
"Let's go, Nek!" Robbie exclaimed. "Let's go.." Nikki looked towards Helen for confirmation.
"Only if you promise to go slow...," Helen answered.
Nikki looked directly across at Helen and softly replied, "Only if you promise to take a drive with us..."
Helen had heard her right. She smiled slightly, letting out a sign as if blowing the comment off. She broke their eye contact and looked down at Robbie. He was definitely up for it.
"I'd like to drive near Loch Lomond and I thought you might know the directions around here better." Nikki replied, shrugging her previous comment off with a smile.
Nick Wade jumped in the conversation, "That's fine, girls...you both take her for a spin. Bring her back in a while...then I'll take her for a real test drive," he proclaimed, winking at Helen. He preceded to lift Robbie in the compact back seat and buckle him securely. Helen didn't have time to refuse; Nick had the door open and placed an arm on her elbow; propelling her into the car. Nikki placed her suglasses on and smiled contently as she settled in the driver's seat. It was hard to beat a Saturday drive in the country with a georgous woman next to you, thought Nick Wade. He chuckled to himself as he watched them drive down the lane; returning Robbie's little wave.

Hey, BGs...
Glad you're enjoying the story :)
CHAPTER EIGHT:
The banquet was just getting started. Nikki sat next to her dad at the VIP table in the dining hall calmly listening to Simon open the dinner. She could not remember being this content in a long time. A silly grin passed over her face as she thought back over the day. How was it that one person could take up all your thoughts?
As Simon continued talking about his branch's growth during the past year, Nikki played over the events of the day. Time had past in a whirlwind. They had taken a leisure drive north up the M8 to the A80 towards the Trossachs National Park and drove around Loch Lomond. It was definitely the scenic route to view the magnificent craggy heights along the Highlands and drive around the lochs. It was exactly how tourists envisioned Scotland; sheep on the slopes, the numerous golf courses, and the occasional dilapidated castle. Coming back south, they picked up on the A811 and travelled northeast towards Stirling. Helen had let it slip at dinner last night that it had been over a year since she'd visited her hometown. Nikki wanted to surprise her by taking her there. On the outskirts of Stirling, they stopped for lunch at a roadside tavern. Helen encouraged Nikki to try the haggis, but instead she opted for a hot roast beef sandwich. In Stirling, they traveled for miles in and out of the streets with Helen telling her something about each one. She directed them through the town center, past the Rob Roy statue and old Watchtower, to view the famous Stirling Castle. Nikki thought it was absolutely stunning; perched on the large, basalt rock. Helen relayed to her that this was where the town had sprung up. Next, they took the A80 south towards Glasgow to catch the M8 back to Mar Hall. Along the way, Helen relayed to Nikki some of the important historical spots along the way. Right out of Stirling, they went past Bannockburn. Helen told her about the place where "Robert the Bruce" defeated the English army of Edward II in 1314 and gained Scotland's independence. She joked to Helen about having a "Braveheart" moment. Nikki could only remember Helen laughing and what pleasure it gave her. She had let the Ferrari loose a couple of times. Helen hanged on for dear life while Robbie was loving it. He would giggle and yelp when she sped up and revved the engine. What was it about kids liking cars? They were so easy to please around them.
As they were approaching Mar Hall, Helen had turned to Nikki and thanked her for the day's activities. She had enjoyed the drive; visiting Stirling, lunch, and proclaimed that she would ride with her anytime. She went so far as to allow Nikki's driving skills were definitely inherited. The latter statement meant a lot to Nikki; to be even close to her dad in driving skills was the upmost compliment. Yes, Helen Stewart was a woman after her heart. Wasn't that what she wanted!
It was now two in the afternoon as they unloaded; several hours to go until the banquet. Nikki already had a plan in place for the rest of the afternoon. She had set up two spa treatments earlier that morning in the prestigious Aveda Spa facility. She thought the easiest way to talk Helen into doing it was to mention it was a gift from the hotel for guests who reserved deluxe accommodations. Nick again volunteered to keep Robbie while they went and, as he called it, "got pampered". They decided to have tea while Nick took the Ferrari for a spin. Robbie wanted to go with him, but Helen made him stay with her. He was getting tired and cranky. She took him back to the room to rest for awhile. He feel asleep within minutes. Around 3:30, the Wades appeared. Nick was really impressed with her room. Helen suggested for Nick to stay there since Robbie was asleep. She invited him to use the sofa and make himself comfortable.
Their scheduled session was at four p.m.; but the lady in reception had requested they arrive early and relax before their treatment. When they arrived at the green and white spa area, they were given white bath robes and slippers to change into. Swimsuits were also available for use if they should use the hot water facilities. After changing clothes and taking a quick shower, they met up in a smaller room that looked very relaxing with its mint green sofa full of pillows and several tropical plants. They were each given a clipboard with a health questionnaire to select what treatments they would like to receive. Helen couldn't believe all the different treatments to choose from; facial treatments, scalp massages, luxury pedicures, body wraps; the list went on. Nikki decided on a package treatment describing a personalized massage; guaranteed to relieve muscle tensions and stress, a hot towel treatment with the finest oils from plant and flower essences, and the luxury pedicure. Helen finally selected the Awakening Body Wrap package. This consisted of a total body wrap in rosemary and peppermint oils, a scalp and foot massage, and an invigorating facial. They were both reserved to get their make-up and hair styling done last. They had met up later in the "foot room". Nikki could still see Helen in the wraparound robe with her lower legs exposed having a relaxing pedicure. Nikki remembered catching her breath at the sight of Helen's shapely legs. She took the chair next to her and it was sweet misery envisioning what was under her robe. Nikki had bravely leaned over and smelled the scented body oils she was wrapped in. Of course, this was all exceptable, and Helen had took a sniff of Nikki's body scents. Nikki longed to reach over at that moment and meet her lips. Something had to give soon.
Nikki was suddenly aware of the present by Simon's introduction....
Helen sat at her selected table listening to Nikki welcome the associates of Wade Motors. There was definitely a larger turnout this year. Changing the venue had certainly upped peoples' interest. Most of the employees and their families were ready to enjoy the 5-star dinner. Their banquet was being held in a large conference room called the Tattinger suite. Each round table, seating eight, was covered with cream tablecloths to match the gold and cream decor of the room. They had placed two silver candle holders on every table along side a large bottle of champagne; insulated with ice in a chilled silver bucket. Grilled Salmon, filet mignon, and roast beef au jus were on the menu. Waiters were at every table to assist the diners. Helen was impressed; this was the epitome of fine dining. The company had shelled out several euros to put this bash on.
Helen glanced around at her co-workers and admired their formal wear. The guys in the Service department had dressed up for the evening. They were all decked out in posh suits. She concurred that clothes could definitely make a difference in people's appearance. Robbie sat next to her dressed up in his finest navy suit and tie. He was a handsome little tike. She looked up at Nikki at the main table. The woman was amazing... she had practically dragged Helen around all day; yet, she looked revived and fresh. That spa treatment was excellent! Tonight she looked very attractive indeed. Her striped grey suit with the fuchsia silk shirt emphasized her dark features. She must of said something funny; for everyone burst out laughing. After a few more words, everyone clapped as she sat down. Simon got up to announce the top performers for the past year. Yes, he had showed up around 6 o'clock with the biggest grin. His daughter had finally delivered a healthy 1/2 stone grandson. Helen reckoned he was still on cloud nine. It didn't seem to bother him much when he heard she had taken his accommodations. He allowed that he was heading back to the hospital after dinner. Of course the Wades understood. Nick Wade had patted his friend on the back and made the statement about "some things were more important than a banquet."
Helen glanced again at Nikki. The woman was looking right at her. Helen smiled back. She was glad Nikki had come around and turned out as friendly as her intuition had first told her. They had practically been inseparable today. Nikki had included her in every whelm she wanted to indulge in. Whatever Nikki suggested or wanted; that 's what they did. She couldn't explain it or knew when it started, but she definitely had developed an awareness of the tall woman. For some reason, Helen felt a pleasant feeling towards her attentions. She found herself searching her out at different times. There was nothing wrong with that, she told herself. She just admired the woman for being a success and continuing to build a major business...

CHAPTER NINE:
The evening was going very well. Everyone drank and ate to their heart's content. Vouchers for a weekend package at Mar Hall were given out in appreciation to each associate present. The Wades were impressed with Mar Hall and felt a gift such as this was very fitting; people could use it at their leisure. Nikki had made the purchases earlier when she checked on the spa reservations. After dinner, Nikki made her way over to where Helen sat. She had invited them to sit at the head table, but Helen had declined; giving the excuse she wasn't sure how Robbie would behave. Nikki had missed her even though she kept sight of Robbie and her throughout dinner. Robbie saw Nikki approaching and took off towards her. She scooped him up into her arms and gave him a hug. Helen took in Nikki's face; watching her eyes crinkling down at Robbie. She was talking animatedly and making him laugh. Helen looked on and marvelled. She glanced at the people around her area watching their exchange. The woman simply didn't realize she caused a stir wherever she went. All day Helen had noticed the appraising looks people gave the tall dark beauty. It amassed her at the nonchalant manner Nikki reacted to her looks. Yes, Nikki Wade was an attractive person all around. Sure she had lovely facial features; but it was more than that. Nikki's tall, fit figure emitted an air of confidence; that sense of knowing what you wanted and going out and getting it. This person would not let anyone she cared about down. Helen felt assured she would make some man very happy one day. Now, why should I be thinking about that, Helen asked herself. She sat there and couldn't think why...
Nikki took in Helen's appearance as she deposited Robbie in his chair. The woman was utterly stunning. She wore a navy evening gown tonight that seemed to have been custom-made; it molded her shape perfectly. Nikki had to drag her gaze from the seductive v-line in front. She remembered when Helen had first appeared in the banquet hall this evening. Nikki controlled her hormones enough to go over and inquire to their seating arrangements. It was hell having to watch her from across the room all night. Nikki had been waiting for this moment all evening. She had something very important to ask Helen and she couldn't stand it anymore. She had talked it over with her dad earlier and even he liked the idea. Might as well ask...hopefully she would receive a favorable response.
"Helen, enjoyed your dinner? This little moppet wasn't too hard on you, was he?" Nikki scruffed Robbie's hair up in disarray. He giggled at her banter.
"Never!" Helen acted surprised. "I believe he enjoyed the fish and chips; not to mention the lemon sherbet."
"Glad to hear it..." Nikki replied.
"The dinner was excellent, Nikki. This whole place...is incredible. Thank you for the voucher. I'm sure we'll enjoy it when we visit again."
"I hope so, Helen." Nikki was staring down at her; mental images of Helen in the four-poster bed were coming to mind again. She mentally shook herself back to the present.
"Helen...I was wondering if you've ever thought about relocating within the company?" Nikki just went ahead and asked. Might as well jump in head first...
Helen was surprised by Nikki's question. " What...you mean work in a different location?"
"Sure, why not?" Nikki commented. "We're always looking for high achieving associates for our London branch." Well...here goes, thought Nikki. "Would you be interested in a sales position in London?"
Helen was silent for a few seconds; too long for Nikki. She didn't notice how anxious she was until she felt her hand tighten down on the fork she held. It was beginning to dig into her skin.
"Nikki, I don't know what to say..." Helen was flabbergasted; this was totally unexpected. Nikki's offer had completely took her by surprise. Move to London and work at the main office? What an opportunity! This was a dream come true;except...
"Just say you'll think about it," Nikki suggested, "We have several openings down south. You're a bright, intelligent woman and a perfect fit-in. Of course, there would be several benefits to work out..think about it." Her heart was beating faster by the minute. She just couldn't refuse....
"Yes, I'll have to think about it," Helen replied. She really didn't know what to say...She couldn't explain it, but she was feeling somewhat shy of Nikki at the moment. She slowly looked down at Robbie to avoid her gaze. She really needed to be alone for awhile and think about the offer.
"Right...," Nikki smiled down at Helen, but inside she was barely hanging on, "take your time, the offer will stand." Realization was sinking in fast. She ought to know it was too much to ask and expect an answer immediately. She had hoped, but waiting was something she wasn't good at.
Helen was the first one to speak. "It is getting late...I think I'll take Robbie to our room. You know, he's had a full day," she stated.
"See you at breakfast."
"Sure, Helen.... Say around 9."
"Yeah...OK," Helen faintly smiled at her; nodding her head.
"Well, I better get back and help Dad; people are beginning to leave". Nikki felt very reluctant to leave Helen. "See you in the morning..."
She looked anxiously at Helen. There was so much she wanted to say to Helen, but couldn't. She simply had no right. The dissappointment was about to take her over. Time to make an exit before she said something she might regret later. Nikki turned around and made her way through the room. A big hurt was builting in her chest and growing by the second. She couldn't control the dissappointment. Tears welled up in her eyes. She made her way out to the lounge and headed for the bar.

CHAPTER TEN:
Leaving Scotland on Sunday afternoon was one of the hardest things Nikki had ever done. She didn't want to leave; Helen was not coming. It felt like her body was weighed down; slowing her progress to board the plane. She kissed and hugged Robbie tightly at the terminal before taking Helen's hand and holding it longer than she should as she searched her eyes.
"You think about our offer," she had handed Helen her personal card before turning towards Robbie again. "Now, you make your mom bring you down to London to visit, OK?" Robbie grinned at her and nodded his head.
"Right. See you, two...Dad?" Nikki glanced at Nick for some support. At that moment, she had to look away. She was about to get emotional. Nick jumped right in with his farewells as she walked towards the loading gate. Each step away from Helen pricked at her heart. She didn't dare look back; afraid of what Helen might see on her face. She'd just have to face it head on and wait. People had to make their own choices. That was life...
Helen was not having an easy time of things either. A lot of the problem was her strange reaction towards Nikki. For some reason, she was feeling very melancholy about seeing the Wades off. She had really enjoyed being around Nikki throughout the weekend. She felt that if given the time, they would of become good friends. There was a close feeling that permeated between them and Helen was assured of this at the airport. She sensed there was something more behind her eyes as she said her farewells. What was she trying to convey? Yes, she knew they wanted her to come to London. SHE wanted to come to London! It was impossible right now... Helen was almost through the ordeal. Seeing Nikki turn towards the gate felt like a door shutting on her. She looked down at Nick hugging Robbie; saying his farewells. They were really great people; no matter what Sean thought...
She led Robbie back to the waiting Mercedes. Thank goodness he was in a good mood today. She was so wrapped in her own thoughts. Johnnie was waiting for them beside the terminal entrance. Helen guessed he would be glad to get home; it had been a busy weekend for him too. She loaded Robbie in the back seat; buckling him in beside her.
"Take us home please, Johnnie..." Helen asked the young man.
"Right O! Wasn't this a grand weekend?" Johnnie proclaimed and continued talking, "The Wades seemed rather nice for posh people. Don't you think?" Johnnie inquired, looking in the rear view mirror for Helen's reply.
"And Ms. Wade... Now, there was a looker! Too bad she's a lesbo..."
Helen quickly lifted her head in disbelief; staring aimlessly at the back of Johnnie's head.
She finally got a word out...
"What..."
LATER THAT WEEK...
She had got the dreaded call Tuesday afternoon from Helen. No...she was sorry, but she couldn't accept the generous offer. Her family was quite settled in Glasgow and Sean had his business there. Yes, she'd keep the offer in mind. She wanted to thank them for accommodating her for the past weekend. She had really enjoyed it and Robbie was missing them. She hoped to see them when they returned to Glasgow. Goodbye...and she hung up.
After Helen's call, Nikki couldn't concentrate. She sat and stared out her window; not looking at nothing or thinking of anything; feeling numb. Around five, Barbara had appeared and inquired about some papers she was supposed to sign. Nikki motioned towards her desk. Barbara assessed her blank stare and vague response. She knew what it meant. She'd seen a similiar version last Fall when Nikki had returned from Scotland. Barbara had answered the phone earlier when Ms Parr had called. The situation was getting clearer. She brought the papers over to Nikki and asked for her signature. Nikki absently signed them. Barbara could sense the younger woman was quite disturbed. She wanted to help, but didn't want to pry. Though Nikki was a private person, she had always been easy to read; but Barbara knew when it was best to be silent. This was one of those times....She ached for Nikki as she watched her turn back towards the open window. You didn't watch a child grow up in front of you and not feel something. Nikki was like a daughter to her and she hated to see her hurting. There was nothing she could do now. Nikki would need some space and time to sort it out. She quietly exited the room.
A distant sound invaded Nikki's thoughts. The persistent ringing was beginning to annoy her. She finally rose from her position to answer the phone. It was Caroline...
