i'm not sure if there's already a thread with this sort of info consolidated, but i thought it might be nice to have in one place a list or collection of these little moments that people might not pick up on the first time through the show. i'm thinking of things like helen saying "helen" under her breath after sylvia says "goodnight ma'am" (ep1.6?) or helen looking at nikki's tush briefly as she enters her cell. (don't recall the ep.) i missed both of those moments, and i'm sure there are many others.

it's clear to me that many people on this board watch this show a whole lot more carefully than i do, but i'd like to benefit from your sharp eyed attention to detail.

Um, I'm not sure. As Moderator I'd say a great deal of this sort of info is already in the Trivia thread: have you read through it completely? because when merging the pages from the old board, a huge amount of stuff fit onto just a few of these pages. Iow it 'looks' kinda short but it's really not, & there's a bit of silliness cause it's a fun thread but there's also a lot of the kind of stuff I think you're thinking of.

But maybe not & it's more... sort of serious moments?

Anyway I'm not saying it shouldn't be a separate thread, just trying to make clear my impulse as Mod is to direct you to already existing threads because then we don't keep replicating data in mutiple places, which sometimes makes it harder to find... Likely I'm just having a dull end-o-week moment. And wanted to make clear I'm commenting not as an actual person at all. (It's those chips in me 'ead...)

I missed this first time round, but I now here it every time I watch. By the way, I think it was Ep8 of Series1. Wasn't it after Spencer's funeral, after Nikki had called Helen "Helen" for the first time?

I've looked over both of these scenes, and don't actually see the actions. Maybe it's just me with the spilling of the coffee one, I don't know.

Of Mammaries and Subtle Flickers of the Eye...


It's quite apparent if you watch the scene slowed down or frame by frame (as I do quite often while making vids.) It's very subtle (as are most things with this actress' portrayal) and she uses her eyes :rolleyes: <G> to convey information about just what is going on internally with Helen where the attraction to Nikki is concerned. Even before she's admitted it to herself. She does glance at her breasts (very quickly and twice as a matter of fact) after that heartstopping moment in the potting shed.

She looks, shocked, at Nikki, with some heat (tho maybe mostly from embarrassment), but, then, she's certainly not looking up at the taller woman's face when she averts her eyes. She looks, first, at where her hand just was, and then turns her head and looks away, but even then her eyes flicker back for a millisecond.

I know this scene so well at the moment since I'm using it slowed in a new vid, so y'all can judge for yourselves then. We'll post it here when it's done. <G>

Just as she gives a good glance at Nikki's bum as she enters her cell (the first copy of 'Sophie's World') in a moment that may well have gone unnoticed if it hadn't been very nicely slowed down and annotated for our viewing pleasure. <G>

Helen's eyes also do wonderful things as she enters the potting shed and sizes up her 'partner' for the coming confrontation, as well as in the library ('I thought you wanted us to be informal') scene (two very brief glances at Nikki's mouth) and, first off, early days, as she very pointedly gives a surprisingly unguarded once-over to her new (and well wooed) 'ally' when Nikki addresses the inmates about the fashion show. (I wish ekny would elaborate further on that one.) This woman has fabulous eyes (as we know) and they are a very strong part of her 'equipment' as an actress, she would've done quite well in silent films.

These are both such intelligent performances, I think they knew exactly what they were doing every beat captured on film.

Yes. Definitely. Of course I had to watch that clip about 20 times before I noticed it. But it's SO sexy!

It is, her accent is hard to understand sometimes tho!

since this has just come up in the S1Ep10 thread, i thought i'd add:

when monica is released and gives her speech, nikki (and other inmates) are watching her on tv. there's one shot where helen hugs monica and you see nikki's teary reflection in the TV screen. pretty cool juxtaposition.

Ok, I didn't really miss this but I thought it was worth a mention.

Post-S3, BG moved from Oxford and got a new exterior set. Am I correct? Has anybody noticed the Oxford Prison excercise yard in some shots in episodes later than 3.16? They do not have any significance, these scenes, but it's just a couple-of-seconds view of the excercise yard. Not only the excercise yard, now I come to think of it. Also, the exterior of the front yard and the shots of the majority of cells windows that were looked at in S1-3, those quick, passing shots have also been used after S3. In these shots, you can usually see a transprt van entering/exiting the prison.

Just a quick observation.

If you look at Episode 5 in Series 1, when Shell & Nikki are fighting, for a brief moment, there are stunt doubles doing the fighting scene.

I didn't realize it until I was watching it one day.

I also know this is cheesy but I still can't watch Episode 4, in Series 1, it's too depressing.

When Al goes for her trial in S5, she borrows a top/cardigan off Tina. Is this cardigan, or is it not, the one Zandra wore during series 2?

I missed this first time, S2episode 10. When Yvonne is trying to get away from Renee and starts shadowing Sylvia and Dominic. Sylvia nags and says the following, " One job I loath in here is visiting time, all pawing each other and telling each other how much they'll miss the other. Then afterwards it's back to the girlfriend for him and the same for her."

If you guys watch Episode 5 Series 1, when Nikki & Shell have their fight, for a brief moment, there are actually body doubles fighting in their place.

Oh, and in the "alternative" love scene in Helen's flat, I thought that the dropping sound was from a cameraman who got so turned on, that he "dropped something" when in reality it was the sound of Nikki's coat.

If you look at the Fight Scene in Episode 5 with Nikki & Shell, for a brief minute there are actually "stunt" people.

At which part? I watched this a few times lol, in fact just now about 10 times, lol, and I managed to get a screen cap of the section I think your talking about, its like half a second, I cant personally decide whether its shell or a double? I know the section where Nikki jumps is Mandana and Debra from outtakes, then it cuts to Lorna, and then as it cut back to the pair fighting, this section is the possible double section?

That is a brilliant observation. You'd make a great detective. Also don't you notice that when she came home she only had her briefcase and not any extra files like she usually did.

If you look at Episode 8 where she comes in with both her briefcase and files.

Here's something that you may have not noticed.

In Episode 1 when Helen goes into the Cell Block to talk to the ladies about Carol. There is a lady with a short mushroom style haircut.

A couple of episodes later, she's a Prison Guard. Can anyone explain that.

She's standing against the wall one minute and then, she's standing in the group behind Helen. Also, if you see the black woman that's an extra whose wearing a sweater, she's been an "extra" four about five or six years now.

Also go back the series one.

I noticed that in Episode 1, Series One, Body Bags only has Two Pips On her shoulder but when she escorts "Smelly Nelly" Snape, to her cell, she has three pips.
