Title: AfterEllen: When Straight Actors Play Gay
Description: New article quotes Mandana & Simone
suchfun - January 16, 2007 04:21 AM (GMT)
www.afterellen.com just posted a feature that quotes Mandana and talks about Simone's issues with the media.
To show support for BG and the actresses, I recommend people go directly to the site and link to the article.

Thanks j+j for spotting the article....
But Lahbib, who now stars in another drama, Wire in the Blood, laughed at the idea of being typecast for portraying a lesbian. For her, the far more insidious typecasting came from the media, which created a reality that, five years later, she said she still struggles to escape. She told us that she is “mortified” to see what the press has done to her image, especially because it hurts the lesbian community she tried to represent. “How could I have played Helen and that intense love story if I was homophobic?” she asked. “It's f------ ridiculous.”
Just love this... too right Simone, it is f------- ridiculous

Thank You J&J for posting this article, I would never have seen it and I am glad I did.
I admit I do not know how to read the media. I also admit I was a little hurt by some of what Simone seemed to berelaying to the press; though I followed her into WITB because I still like her acting.
This article, these types of articles you posted, J&J, help the typical, average, non-saavy readers like me :silly to understand better what goes on in interviews. I abhor being manipulated.
It was good to get back in perspective Simone and her thoughts about Bad Girls; as, in my opinion, Bad Girls was one of the better if not THE best at a T.V. lesbian story line thus far.

| And will these positive statements by Simone be given the same attention and coverage on this board, that the media-created nonsense which appeared in the Closer magazine article a few months back were? |
That would be great! but I fear some people just don't like Simone so they would rather believe the previous garbage and I love that she referred to it as an "intense love story" exactly what it was for a lot of people! :clap

LOVE,LOVE,LOVE that quote! Although I'm sure some ppl will find something to be offended by. :slurp
To be honest, I hate when straight actresses are pc in interviews. I wouldn't be offended if a straight woman said she was uncomfortable kissing another woman. I wouldn't feel comfortable kissing a man. So why should she feel comfortable kissing a woman. I think sometimes straight actresses swoon at the thought of doing a love scene with another woman strickly to get the dicks up...and I HATE THAT!

And once again we find ourselves having to step into this debate.
And the majority has now been moved and you can find it:
Click here for the new thread for the Simone and her comments in articles debateWe've already asked that if this debate is continued, it is done within board guidelines. While it hasn't specifically pushed over them, its got far too close again. Disparaging another poster is equally a broken rule as being outright rude. Some posters have got far too close to this and we will begin warnings if this isn't stopped!
We've had numerous complaints now about this whole issue as well from board members who are tired of coming into a thread and finding the same things discussed again and again without it being entirely related to the article.
This is currently upsetting the harmonics of the board (the number of complaints alone tells us that), and again, we will act if we feel this is happening, even if no specific rule has been broken.
We are now going to ask that should this discussion be carried out, its in the split topic we've now placed in the debate room. (which is linked at the top of this post).
Also please remember we have one basic rule which we keep repeating - and yet somehow seems to be ignored all too often in this instance!

Remember, this Forum is a place to exchange; it is not your personal soapbox. The goal is to teach and to learn, not to beat down the opposition. This is supposed to be an enjoyable place to discuss, not a battlefield! If you find that you are arguing in circles, then agree to disagree and move along.

We don't want to stop a debate.
In fact believe that they can be very useful, but by the same token if it begins to upset the board dynamic, we will take further action.
These comments are not aimed at any specific poster - we are simply asking all those who have posted whether there is any need to continue this, and if so, to be absolutely sure they are managing it in an objective manner that is going to help and not be a rehash of the same arguments.
