Title: video card lag?

Kojak - May 11, 2006 07:13 AM (GMT)
just installed rf on too my flat mates pc.

nice ping nice comp.

p4 3.5 2 gig ram radeon 9800

now i think i have read this before but correct me is there a certain gap between speeds say 2.5 too 3.5 where rf runs like shit? an is this the cause for it?

peopel say we dont lag but on our screen its just liek peopel have uber dodgeing mods with lag spikes.

any1 know hwot oo fix this?

Toe To Toe - May 11, 2006 07:26 AM (GMT)
Isnt the option either to overclock the cpu or underclock it. The answer is here somewhere

Ya i'm a victim of the p4 800 FSB RF bug.

To cut it short, if you have an 800 FSB p4 between the ranges of 2.1 ghtz and 2.8 ghtz ya gotta either raise to over 2.8, or lower to under 2.1 or your Rf multi will skip as if you've got 800 ping, even tho you might be the host or even Gig LANing (ie, even if you have 0 ping - just ask Niko about his laptop sometime laugh.gif ).

cheers t2t thats what i was after.

i can't remember who it was but i think someone spoke about having to switch of the duel cpu thing when they playd red as it couldn't handle the duel cpu mode

it was something like that i wasn't really consintrating when i read it

hopefully i jogged someones memory who can point the way

You should google around as most games are affected by the same symptom. KoV's AMD dual core had the same problem, thankfully AMD offered a patch to fix the problem. Microsoft also has a hotfix available which you have to call up for, although you can find it quite easily with a bit of snooping around. :shifty:

well the rf bug must only apply too p4 cpus. i have my amd running at 2435mhz even changed it around to a few times too see if the bug did exist an yeh no probs here.

i have just installed windows xp 64bit edition and this same problem now affects me, ive tried running it in different compatable modes but with no luck, annoying as hell.

Lif3 - June 4, 2006 11:30 AM (GMT)
It wouldn't suprise me if you have lots of problems running rf in xp 64bit.

Toe To Toe - June 4, 2006 11:38 AM (GMT)
im currently dual booting, having the best of both worlds, Xp pro and Xp pro 64 ALOT of games just dont work at all with 64, but the few that do run ver well, ie GRAW runs like a steaming pile of shit on 32bit pro, but switching to 64bit changes the frame rate dramatically... 64 is also very zappy, everything opens alot quicker... vista is going to be great.

Lif3 - June 12, 2006 12:47 PM (GMT)
I'm currently beta testing vista 64bit, rf runs fine under it. :D

Lif3 - June 13, 2006 08:36 AM (GMT)
I take that back it lagged to shit when i played a war just earlier.

Fr3Nzy - June 28, 2006 08:59 PM (GMT)
Koji, try underclocking the slut.

And as far as i know it is a P4 only problem but my m8 has had problems with RF on a hardcore Dual Core AMD system. I wasn't there so not sure if it's the same 'bug' though sounds like it migt have been.

Anyway, it's got something to do with the Hyper Threading which is why Dual Core AMD's might not like it either. . .

Try underclocking to 3.0 gigz and test.

If that doesn't work by a piece of shit PC, like a Celeron 400 mhz and a MX 440 gfx card and call it The RF Machine. ;)

Gloom - July 1, 2006 01:56 PM (GMT)
ehahaha ! :D the "RF machine"

Well fark me sidewayz. .

I have a startling announcement to make.

The RF skipping bug is NOT a hyperthreading issue. . . in fact, i now dont know what the heck causes it. .

My comp shit itself last night. . . yes. . again. . anyway i'm back up with a 40 gig HDD. . yay. .

Thing is i tried a 533 FSB 2.6 p4 in an intel board i have lying around and RF skipped like crazy. Thing is, that chip wasnt hyper threading. . so like WTF?

The real kicker is because the board is INTEL (teh suck) it doesn't support overclokcing via BIOS or software so although its a decent enuff replacement comp for me, i cant play RF on it.

Can u belee diz shit?

Anyway, i now have my CPU (2.6 northwood - le pwn) in that intel board but because of intels sucky ass no bios OC thing i cant play RF. . got 560 watt thermaltake PSU and a 6600GT limited edition gfx card as well as a gig of DDR400 mhz RAM that i can't use on the piece of shit i'm running now (that DOES play RF. . .)

Anyway, good news is theres another ASUS p4p800 deluxe on EBAY with my name on it. . only 3 hours to go til its mine. . aw yea.

Yer. . . as far i as know overlocking to 3 gigz works! And underclocking to below 2.2 Gigs works, if you have this problem. If your mobo doesnt support overlocking then ur screwed.

But honestly i dont know exactly why. . .

In Koji's case i reckon he should underclock to around 3 gigz.

Let me know how it goes.

Peace.

Gloom - July 4, 2006 03:14 AM (GMT)
hmmm, u know it could be something very simple... like pawnt computers that have a system tray that has 8 or more programs running in the background.... if you press Ctrl + Alt + Delete, you will notice that your cpu usage will often go from 2% and jump on a regular basis to 30% sometimes even 100% - if that is the case, the cpu's caching of information has possibly got priority over redfaction's cpu memory... this could cause the skipping to happen...

simple :bai :hawk

Fr3Nzy - July 6, 2006 12:02 AM (GMT)
Uh Gloom, i know ya mean well mate, but pls it aint that.

Clean reformat GIGABIT LANNING it does this on a 2.6 800 FSB HT p4 honed computer but my g'fs piece of shit 1.7 gig p4 no HT 400 FSB loves it.

Go figure. .

Thought it might be a dual channel RAM problem just recently but took a stick out (leaving just the one) and still skipped unplayably. .

Grrr.

Jools - July 6, 2006 05:12 AM (GMT)
Alex (Spectre7) had that problem. If you catch him on msn, might be worth a yarn - pretty sure he fixed it eventually.

Toe To Toe - July 21, 2006 07:23 AM (GMT)
If anyone ever has trouble with this bug in windows xp 64bit, i found that turning regular windows xp emulation mode on does not fix the problem, however running in win98*Toe To Toe does, so their you go, not overly hard.

edit: FARKING CODING!!!!
