Absolutely superb film starring Judy Davis as a headstorng young woman who yearns for a life of art and music. But she's trapped in the Australian Outback of the late 19th century.
A feminist novel, a romance novel, a total wonder. Written by Miles Franklin in 1901, the novel serves as a wonderful launch pad for Davis and diretor Gillian Armstrong as a well as Sam Neill.
That Davis didn't win an Oscar nomination for her brilliant work here is one of Oscar's shames. She's just plain marvelous.
Great atmosphere, music, and detail to period make MY BRILLIANT CAREER a total joy. Aileen Britton is the grandmother, Wendy Hughes is Aunt Helen, Patricia Kennedy is Aunt Gussie, Robert Grubb is Frank, and Julia Blake is the mother.....
This is a must see film.
