Title: Stopped Smoking?
Description: Anyone?

TARA2 - October 12, 2009 01:42 PM (GMT)
Is anyone trying or tried and succeeded?

I know Malice has quit using the gum, Ive been off them for 2 weeks now using the patches & I think they are really good, dont know how i will feel when I stop using the patches though, says use them for 8 weeks then down to lower dosage patches for 2 weeks then thats it! :hat :rastaman

Cindy - October 12, 2009 02:22 PM (GMT)
I am off them for 2 weeks now. Cold Turkey  I haven't been out since stopping so god knows how it will be when having had a drink or two :o

Good luck Tara

Nik - October 12, 2009 02:22 PM (GMT)
I tried all that, came off the gum and discovered my nicotine dependency was through the roof. Now back on about 4 or 5 a day unless drinking... I can cope with that!

rupert - October 12, 2009 03:06 PM (GMT)
Managed 10 months without a ciggie years ago. Ended up smoking more puff instead so probably doesn't count.
My other half's on about a month long alcohol detox she wants us to do so might try and kill 2 birds with one stone. The last time i really craved tobacco was on an aircraft after a couple of whisky and gingers.
Got to give it up, 25 years is an undertakers dream. :o

Scooter Perv - October 12, 2009 03:20 PM (GMT)
Im on lozzenges at mo (about 2 weeks)and been prescribed patches but made my head spin so took it off..Finding it really really hard to quit this time round..so many changes happening, laid off, moved house etc. I guess if I gave it more will power I could do it but my head tells me I cant. On about 3-4 a day instead or 20-30 so guess its getting better. Pouch of baky lasting a week instead of a day

goodvibes - October 12, 2009 03:21 PM (GMT)
I can go all day without even thinking about it, if I am kept busy. The minute I get bored I struggle. Those patch thingies make my arm all itchy and then sore, the gum works sort of. Was talking to a girl at work the other day, who was a real heavy smoker and she said she had been stopped for 9 month with that Champit? Not sure about that thought - didn't it "allegedly" cause a few deaths when it came out? I really must do something though, cos I can feel it and I just get chect infection after chest infection.

Anyway good on you Tara and co, keep it up! ;)

I gave up for 5 years, until Yarmouth rally last year. I used the lozzeges n found they worked well. Started off on 4mg ones, made me high as a kite for a few days, then on to 2 mg then 1mg.

Thought i would be alright havin a sneaky ciggy outside The Barking Smack, but that started me off again  . In the process of trying to give up again

bri - October 12, 2009 08:27 PM (GMT)

Taxi - October 12, 2009 08:43 PM (GMT)
Gave up about 4 years ago - just went cold turkey. Was ok til I went out and got drunken. Had several lapses over the years, always when drunk. Doesn't bother me now, in fact I hate the smell.

Keep at it, you will get there in the end if you are determined enough.

justin - October 12, 2009 08:52 PM (GMT)
Tried cold turkey. Turned me into a psychonutterbastard after 2 days. Ended up nearly punching my boss, having numerous rows wiv my wife n upsetting the kids.

yep, i always hated smoking. started to have a draw with the lads 15 years and god knows how many grand later i stopped doing the draw after smoking a 9 bar on my own. endded up with sycossis. then was left with the nicoteen craving, thats crap. but after washing up the ash trays with bare fingers, and thinking that is my lungs that is. week in week out. and the smell. :puke2: i must have subconsously put it in my mind, as every lug, was like eatting a snout. rather than smoking it. turning my guts... and then it was easy. neat fell pregnant, and so that was that. no more, i hate the smell the taist and for the health of our little one, now i look at him, and think, best days work i ever did. :5

tomdavid1988 - October 13, 2009 08:10 AM (GMT)
We've not long developed the no smoking in the house rule and it's worked brilliantly.

When we first started it i'd nip out every hour or so, but after a week or so it just became less and less frequent, now I never bother.

I still smoke outside of the house but not smoking in the house has cut me down from 7 packs a week to around3.

PX200Matt - October 13, 2009 09:14 AM (GMT)
Really want to quit - but am a natural born smoker end of. Mate at work got hypnotised and that worked, so may try that......"you're feeling very sleepy"

Thats what I was doing as hate the smell in house. Gum doing the job & it £2.99 for 96 in savers. :)

skolar - October 13, 2009 11:54 AM (GMT)
i tried to give up lasted the 8 weeks on the patches then went onto the smaller ones and stated smoking again

then i realised smoking was prob the addiction i should worry about the least

Andy Cad - October 13, 2009 02:58 PM (GMT)
Me and the misus were smoking 60 a day between us

thats £15 a day
or £105 per week
or £420 a month
or £5000+ a year

That was my motivation for giving up.....

It'll be 3 years this march for me since I last had a ciggy.... I used Zyban tablets to help me...... They worked but fucked with my head a bit and made me turn nasty......

Still puff the old weed tho...... I aint giving that up....

I know it sounds stupid but the easiest way to give up smoking is not to have another cigarette......

If you dont light up you wont smoke.....

IT TAKES WILLPOWER.......The craving is over in 5 minutes just try and ride it out and take one day at a time.......

I gave up for about 4 years a while back.......... and started back on my wedding day......

PaulH - October 13, 2009 03:31 PM (GMT)
I quit just under 3 years ago after smoking 40 a day for 28 years.
I couldn't talk or laugh without bursting into a fit of coughing.
I used to wake up in the early hours for a smoke.

I started by using the big patches plus a lozenge when I woke up. I found that splitting the lozenge and putting it under my tongue gave me a quick, powerful hit rather than waiting for it to dissolve. Then I'd have gum throughout the day as and when. I still had the patch on though!
The nurse at my GPs clinic was horrified when I told her what I was doing but she said that although I was probably overdosing on nicotine, it was a lesser evil than the other chemicals in a cigarette.
This lasted about 2 weeks and then I dropped the patches altogether....a few weeks later I dropped the lozenges. I admit I still use the gum and if I'm honest, I think that without the gum I'd smoke again.
Although having said that I really hate the smell of them. The wife still smokes though so it's hard to avoid it.

Fair play too all who have tried and gave up the cigs ;) My dad was a 100 a day chain smoker until he had an accident and punctured one lung which nearly killed him, He gave up cold turkey style for 3 yrs then started back on them but not so heavily 20 a day. Anyway I tried one when i was 5yrs old and was just being curious as I'd seen my dad puffing away on them. Lit one up and took a big drag :puke2: threw up and coughed n whizzed for at least 30 mins so decided not too take up this smoking marlarky. ;)

Keep up the good cause Tara2 ;)

Fuck me, exactly the same scenario here!!!
Now, if I had of also drank a litre of strongbow & puked my guts up then 37 years on I would have been a fucking millionaire lol :neck:

hi tara
if you really want to stay of em you will.
quit about 5 months back.was a heavy smoker for about 26 years.
started to feel quite ill and woke up one morning ,decided i had enough and havnt smoked sinse.

i nibbled instead of smokes and put on about 2 stone.

dont really think about smoking now even if drinking or around smokers.

good luck
wayne

t5bitza69 - October 27, 2009 07:56 PM (GMT)
anyone tried these???

dunf - October 28, 2009 04:24 AM (GMT)
i stopped seven years ago. cold turkey. never again since. had tried loads of times before and cant honestly say what was different about that time?

the thing with stopping is - you set out to have none, then your brain tries to convince you that one or two is ok, i mean lets face it its batter than twenty right? So you can still have a wee pat on the back. Then the next day you have maybe 5? but thats ok too right? still way less than 20 and you'll lower it tomorrow.....you can see where this goes eh?

gotta just stop. final. finito. zero.zilch.nada. no more...good luck. :teach

TARA2 - October 28, 2009 07:31 AM (GMT)
Been over 4 weeks now cig free, ditched the patches 2 weeks ago as they started to make me feel ill, its not been easy & I still want a cig but the craving soon passes & its nice to still have some cash in my little purse at the end of a week. :hat

Must admit I still have 6 cigs in the house, hidden in a draw, cant bring myself to throw them away just yet....

barney st george - October 28, 2009 07:36 AM (GMT)

Scooter Perv - October 28, 2009 11:58 AM (GMT)

My daughter has something similar to that - uses it when she can't be bothered to go outside. It takes cartridges and generates smoke. Looks like the real thing and people have come up to her and told her off for smoking indoors - there is a bit of a grey area over it's usage and she has had some rows over it.

Think she uses it less now than when she first bought it as novelty factor has worn off and all her mates still have to go out to smoke.

Now that's what I call willpower Tara. If I had them in the house, they would go, no problem.

Me and Ninja went to London for a few days and non smoking hotel etc, meant we both smoked a lot less than half of what we would normally. We couldn't even be bothered to go outside for one. Stupid really. I think it's more in the mind, than the nicotine craving in my case anyway.

Well done anyway and you too Nige......... :banging
