Title: Fair Weather / All Weather
Racer_6ixx - October 21, 2009 10:15 AM (GMT)
Are you an All weather Rider? or just a fair weather /sunday driver ??
Driving to work this morning - pissing of rain - howling gales - wobbling all over the road - it definatley wakes you up i can assure you. :o
Sometimes i wonder if i should ride in weather like this but i do it anyway.
Anyway - whats your thoughts?? :dunno:
Its not looking good to clear up before home time at 3.30 so another interesting journey ahead later.

All weathers, not because I think it's cool and it makes me better or more "commited" than anyone who doesn't but becase at the minute I have no choice.
Got a 60 mile round trip to do later and it's pissing down here.
MALICE - October 21, 2009 10:25 AM (GMT)
Owning a px & a gt I must admit in this weather the gt does the job better.
Lot more solid in the winds instead of getting blown about. Still get wet tho but at least I get home quicker to dry off.

same hear, and i now have the flu, not cause of riding in the cold, but because stupidly, i have put off waring my winter spadaflage and balaclava i must dig them out. for when i get over this head cold achey ness
wish i could run the van, bloody freezing...
joda - October 21, 2009 10:33 AM (GMT)
i need a car for my work, so that rules me out!!
however id gladly ride to work if i could, if its pissing rain at the weekend id still venture out for a blast, or departure for a rally id still go on 2 wheels, unlike many who would just take the car!!
skolar - October 21, 2009 10:34 AM (GMT)
no weather at the min coz i aint got a scoot on the road, but otherwise all weather coz i cant drive a car
elgarra - October 21, 2009 10:35 AM (GMT)
All weathers.
Frozen throttle cables, gloves that have shrunk from being dried out over the fire, a general musty stench about me, my gammy hand siezing up from the cold etc etc.
I'm too old for it though, so as soon as me Mini's finished i shall be driving that to work............ in between repairs.
Cindy - October 21, 2009 10:36 AM (GMT)
When I still live in germany my only form of transport was the scooter, so it was all weather including snow  I used to look like a big fat michelin man in the winter due to so many layers of clothing :banging
These days I need a car for work so I only tend to ride the scooters for rallies and the occasional trip down the shop. However if I wouldn't need a car for work I would quite happy just stick with having a scooter :)

Doug - October 21, 2009 10:41 AM (GMT)

Philthy - October 21, 2009 10:45 AM (GMT)

I wear three pairs of gloves, large motor cross ones, extra large normal motorbike ones and a fucking huge pair of thinsulate ones.
Seems to do the job :banging

Iv not got the oxford ones yet but now have a cheap set on (got them ages ago & never used them) to see how I get used to them.
tuts - October 21, 2009 10:55 AM (GMT)
All year round.
Not because i`m hard(quite a puff actually),more economic reasons and time restraints
Our council want £5.00+ a day for car parking.Fuck that.
The banks we use are 15 miles away and theres no way of just parking out side for 5 minutes.Even if you find a van parking spot in Coventry it will cost you ££.
And my 5 minute /3 mile ride to work can be a 30 minute car journey in the morning.
100s of cars with one person sat in ! Or people taking there kids 1/2 mile to school.Walk you lazy fuckers.
Sorry it was not supposed to be a rant.
Racer_6ixx - October 21, 2009 11:14 AM (GMT)
i need to pass my test so i can buy a car - this cold is killing me - only problem will be that the wife will nick the car.

i found they are a little squishy at the tips where you try to push your fingers round to get the levers, but you soon get that under control. ;)
ric - October 21, 2009 11:40 AM (GMT)
all weather for me ,if i was in a car it would take me 15min longer cause of traffic.although it is starting to get a bit chilly in the mornings (fuck me i sound old )
PX9 - October 21, 2009 11:59 AM (GMT)
All weather for me. I don't do cars and have never sat my car test so the only option for me to get to work is to go by Scoot.
I love wearing all the thermals and two pairs of gloves, recently I've started wearing a big high viz waterproof quilted coat over my body armour jacket. Keeps me nice and cosy.
I've got the muffs but never used them on the Vespa, they work well on an auto.
OzOAP - October 21, 2009 12:11 PM (GMT)
Ride (some) of me bikes in all weathers.
Me van leaks, heater doesn't work, dont go over 60 and it dont have a radio, so it aint much difference to riding a bike <_<
scarlet2u - October 21, 2009 12:13 PM (GMT)
i ride to work on the px almost every day, home at lunch then back again, do it rain or shine. scares the shit out of me riding in high winds and driving rain but after doing Skegness last yearand coming back on the A14 in gale force winds, rain and with big lorries threatening to drag me under i guess a ten minute ride to work is nothing lol!!!!
gimp1971 - October 21, 2009 12:48 PM (GMT)
was all weather but since passing car test use car now rain or shine only really use it for rallys now as have to pick daughter up from nursery most days on way home
Scootissimo - October 21, 2009 01:38 PM (GMT)
All weathers for me too. Lovely riding off the ferry at 6am in the lashing rain and then wobbling round the M27 and up the A3 towards London.

johnd - October 21, 2009 01:43 PM (GMT)
all weathers, 140 kilometer round trip to work too!! Having said thaty i recently traded my Runner for a BMW K75 and i'm fitting heated grips and various other heath robinson devices to fend off the winter chill as we speak?
Old electric blanket wired to the battery anyone?? :o
dread - October 21, 2009 02:09 PM (GMT)
is the k75 the one with the roof over the top.
PX200Matt - October 21, 2009 02:11 PM (GMT)
Only excuses in my book for not riding in all weathers, is if I needed car/van for work reasons or ferrying nippers around.
Dont have either need right now so enjoying the freedom of riding an Italian girls shopping trolley instead TBH :love
However - if snow/ice on roads - i'll take a train to work as it just dont work on a Vespa - I've tried and failed! :wall
7 days a week, 365 days a year, come rain or shine - 10inch wheels keep turning. Ride the shite-heap everywhere all the time, end of. Two wheels good - four wheels bad :teach
SHOVELL - October 21, 2009 02:38 PM (GMT)
rain, sun, wind and snow 200 miles per wek just for work and i love it :banging :banging :banging :banging

Same here, with the difference that it would take at least an extra half an hour longer each way, and considerably more if the A40 is fucked, which is at least a couple of times a week. Also the car is a fucking gas guzzler and costs around 7 quid a day, the GS almost does the week for that.
Yes it is getting cold, and its gonna get worse, still rather that than the possibility of it taking 2 hours to get to work instead of 25-30 mins.
justin - October 21, 2009 06:07 PM (GMT)
All weather for me. I rode to and from work 5/6 days a week, 40 mile round trip for 2 years. Sometimes used to get on the scoot in the morning and the seat was frozen solid.By the time i got to work i had a unfrozen butt grove on the seat :D
I had me scoot of the road for about 6 months cos it was worn out ,so i was rebuilding it. Had to buy a cheap run-around car. But, back on the scoot again now, ready for the winter rides
rupert - October 21, 2009 06:55 PM (GMT)
Lost me car keys somewhere round the house about a fortnight ago, still got the builders in so the place is upside down, not banking on finding them anytime soon.
No choice but to ride which I don't really mind. But given the choice, when its pissing down with rain or there's ice on the road I'd really rather have something with a roof and some heating. Any cunt can be uncomfortable, I don't get paid any extra for arriving at work looking like I've been chucked in a river.

I know that look very well.

My commute is relatively short at the minute. I was riding the GP from the Isle of Wight to Folkestone and back on a weekly basis for 3 months. A Snetty gets hard over that sort of distance. Bikers and Power Rangers ctaching the boat with me couldn't believe I'd commuted that sort of distance on an Italian shopping bike.

coddy - October 21, 2009 07:15 PM (GMT)
Got a company car, but usually push bike to work for fitness reasons. On alternate Saturdays I go to work on either my Bandit or my scooter. Pleasure riding I won't get either machine out of the garage if it's raining cos then it wouldn't be a pleasure :down

me too, it helps that it's only 10 minutes away, 5 if I'm running late. Rallies don't care if it's raining I've got some top wet weather gear and 3 decent pairs of gloves to alternate between
Raptorman - October 21, 2009 09:01 PM (GMT)
Judge for yourselves.
I returned from FROG LAND after a contract. 23rd Dec. 2000 into South-End. Got my 2 wheels and rode to Mansfield up the A1 & missed my turning. 15 miles on top of my ride to meet my Girlfriend. The roads were full of snow.
When I am on 2 wheels.............. Sun Rain, Hail, Snow........ :love
sideshow fred - October 21, 2009 09:22 PM (GMT)
well, for some reason my car always runs out of tax in winter and i can never afford to tax it so i end up using the scoot over the winter months. and those three months always seem to have frosty/icy mornings  riding in the rain/cold don't bother me so guess i'm all weather :scoot1:
BinghamPie - October 21, 2009 09:32 PM (GMT)
The only weather I won't/can't ride in, is very strong wind as I don't don't have the strength in my arms anymore because of my MS. Other than that, rain, snow, ice, fog etc and can't you tell by just looking at my scoot as it's a tad scruffy.
