Description: we have all had some shitters
justin - October 30, 2009 09:34 PM (GMT)
As suggested on another thread...whats been the worst weather on a rally for you ?
For me, Yarmouth, Easter 08. Wind and rain all the way there. Gale winds on the sea front so it was almost impossible to walk. Weather was so bad i had to spend nearly the whole weekend in the Barking Smack  and got up on the morning to go home.......4-5 inches of snow.
Thought that would be ok......set off, got on the A11 for a total white out blizzard
Had to pull over at one stage for 10 minutes as it was impossble to see where i was goin at 25 mph. Pulled into a layby and saw a phone box..........hhmmmmm ,that might be a nice place to kip for the night i thought
Eventually carried on , then........sunshine ! Realised i wasnt dead n carried on :banging

i'll go with you on that, ended up in hospital in a ventilator, and nebulizer. after my lungs near collapsed plurasy and well on the way to pnumoania, my lungs have not been the same since left me on inhailors and heavily astmatic, rode there at 45 degree angle and eventually back home at 135 degree. i was staying extra days in flatlet wit h me family. and had to cutl the holiday break short.
as i was so ill.

Mersea Island 1997. Travelled then still from Germany, stopped over in Antwerp and continued towards Oostende on the thursday. Gale force winds which was constantly changing directions and monsum like downpoors. I got blown off the road with my scooter and ended up in a water filled ditch with only the headset showing and the rest of the scooter and all my gear submerged in mucky water ;jaw ;jaw
Needless to say I didn't give up, got a taxi and a trailer to get me the last 20 miles to the ferry and drained it off the water etc next morning in Ramsgate after a cold night in the ferry terminal asleep in a dripping wet sleeping bag. Still made it to the kids play ground at Mersea before it went bang with a bang, home journey was far more comfortable with the AA. :banging

IOW 85 was pretty dire travelling down in the constant rain and the campsite was a frakking quagmire, Skegness 2007 was pretty dire on the way back too with the gales and raining like stair rods and of course Great Yarmouth but I never had to travel for that so had it easy!!

Yarmouth 08 for me too - didnt have to travel far only up from Essex but I have never been so cold.
Visor icing up on the inside and me peering out of a hole the size of a fag packet
My new "waterproof" gloves were sodden thru within about 10 mins.............
Once the snow stopped and the rain started, it was heavenly!!!

Yarco 08 for me too......got lucky with the weather on the Friday ride there with Olly an MrG, cold but dry, i could only do the Friday, so had to head back on Saturday on me lonesome..........................................i think my tyres had a permanent 45 degree flat worn into them!.......winter gloves that i have used for 3 or 4 years that i found out were totally useless when the weather was "proper" wintery!.......But put me head down, stopped for fuel twice, and a Double Whopper with cheese, and cup of coffe coming of the A14, when my hands started to get that red hot ice cold burning pain ouch!............Hat off to Sparky though who drove down in it and took 9 or 10 hours or something!! :clap
Also similar situation going to Llandudno mod rally in 87 or something......riding through wales somewhere in a blizzard.....we had to ride in the middle of the road because we couldn't see the kerbs at the side of the road it was falling and settling so quick!....eventually arrived at the hotel around 1am i think, and the guy got out of bed to open the door for us......and offered to open the bar!.....HAPPY DAYS!.....his misses came down about 2 hours later and caught him drinking by the fire with us, gave him a right bollocking, shut the bar and dragged him back to his pit.

Warmwell a few years back, in a gale with pissin rain. leaning into the wind at 45 degree angle. Had to pull over several times as I couldn't see eff all. Dodging fallen branches and learning that there were power lines being blown down.

llandudno 92/93 we got there and it was lashing down and some silly cunt forgot the tent pegs so we tied the flysheet to the scoots an slept on the inner and in the morning we had 3 inches of water under us, it was fucking windy too, we needed some tent pegs so we went on a mission round the campsite and blagged a few (sorry if any of your tents fell over) but that night was even worse with wind and rain and a tent pole snapped ripping a 2ft hole in the side of the tent, oh happy days
the aa tent blew away too
