What's your favorite books ? And as a film music listener do you hear music in your mind when you're reading, like I do ? I chose some titles I really love and tried to apply the best music for them. It's just for fun so come on !

The Thanatonauts (Bernard Werber)
What Dreams May Come (Michael Kamen)

Empire of the Ants (Bernard Werber)
Field of Dreams (James Horner)

The End of Eternity (Isaac Asimov)
Total Recall (Jerry Goldsmith)

Up the Line (Robert Silverberg)
Back to the Future II (Alan Silvestri)

Mr. Vertigo (Paul Auster)
The Boy Who Could Fly (Bruce Broughton)

I guess reading books about composers and biographies and listening to their music doesn't really count, right?

With my books of Indiana Jones, John Williams of course. But it's all such a long time ago, since I read my books. Usually my books are the ones of the movie. Jurassic Park and The Lost World, Rocky, Independence Day, Godzilla. Then again on the other few I have, like Meg (Steve Alten), probably also John Williams.
Utopia (Lincoln Child) never finished it though. Gotta restart reading again some time soon. They said on the back of the book it's like Die Hard set in a theme park, so on that one it would probably be Michael Kamen's Die Hard.
Then Prey by Michael Crichton. Something about experiments in the Nevada desert, my brother said it something like Predator so I think to would be Alan Silvestri on that one.
A few days ago, I got a gift of my grandmother which was the original book of The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells, translated that is, only 190 pages. And that would be John Williams as well.
I like doing this, it's like going deeper into the story. During my fanfiction writings (mostly and momentarily only MacGyver stories), I also listen to filmmusic to get more tension and excitement in my stories. Also when I sent them in I place between the () the track of which score to listen, to give it a more movie watching feeling. If the music of MacGyver was more available I'd stay with that but since that ain't the case, I make my picks out of my filmmusic collection, from Al's work to Zimmer's work. Sometimes it's really nice to see. In my latest story MacGyver is going nuts and having visions and dreams about the Predator and Dinosaurs. From the moment I start with the Predator part, that jungle music kicks in. There's also a part where the bad guy syringes him down, flat out and he's beginning to see effects and becomes delirious and then you hear the Bad Dreams track from Aliens. It's so good and fun to do this.

I can't read and listen to music at the same time. A magazine yes, but not a book.

It all depends on what kind of book. The music helps the illusion come to life. Put yourself into a corner, one light above you, turn on the music and read an exciting book.

At the moment I'm reading the first book of the LOTR trilogy. It's soooo much better than the movies. And while I read I listen to - Surprise, surprise - The complete recordings of The Fellowship of the Rings ;)
Although yesterday evening when I've read another chapter I had Jerry Goldsmith's "Timeline" in the DVD player to hear it in SA :D

What you can also try when you read War of the Worlds is perhaps JNH's Signs.
