Title: Marco Beltrami's Omen score

GoldsmithFanatic2000+ - March 2, 2006 12:04 PM (GMT)
I (at the moment) haven't yet decided. :/

Why is this poll negatively oriented ?

Predatorfan - March 2, 2006 07:03 PM (GMT)
The Omen was a tad too slow for me so I didn't really pay any attention to Goldsmith's score. Beltrami isn't that new anymore to filmmusic since the first Scream which is already 10 years ago. I'd say he has enough experience for The Omen.

I voted for "I don't care".

Pogel - March 3, 2006 02:38 PM (GMT)
I think the movie is deemed to be, but I'm willing to give Beltrami the benefit of doubt.

I'm actually surprised by some of the responses here. Goldsmith's Omen score is one of the best horror scores of all time. As far as I am concerned, if you don't know it, you have either got to be a NEWBIE in the score music world or you just don't like it (Goldsmith haters etc), therefore your opinions are "worthless" to me.

I could have attended the scoring sessions in april. Marco invited me, but I won't go because I don't have time...I think it would be great!

I hope you didn't mean me, GoldsmithFanatic2000+ ...
Just because I am willing to give Beltrami the benefit of doubt doesn't mean I don't LOVE The Omen score! It's an incredible score (and trilogy of scores), actually, I like Final Conflict best.

Just don't blame the composer for poor production-choices...

by the way, i wouldnt call the omen a typical horroscore. more action if you listen to the killer storm, safari park, the dogs attack etc

e.g. alien is pure horror ;)

Yeah, the poll’s essence is either ridiculous or I am not getting what it tries to say, if you don’t mind me adding. What does this mean? Either a Goldsmith copy-paste or a complete disaster?

If excellent modern film music works like XXX : state of union, TERMINATOR 3 : The rise of the machines, Hellboy , I,Robot, flight of the phoenix, Blade II, Underworld evolution or his best work to date (imo), i am dina sound like disaster to you, then I am sorry to say that, but you need to be checked or something ;)

I thoroughly read Dimitri’s and Alan’s reviews of the recordings sessions, here and over at scorereviews.com/forum and from what I got out of it, the new Beltrami score should sound something like a cross between Terminator 3, Hellboy, I, Robot, Underworld: Evolution and man, that’s totally fine by me!

God, I hope people would manage to let that ‘constantly turn to the past’ – syndrome and actually enjoy the fabulous talent some young composers have in their blood…it reminds me of the Ottman’s new Superman debates, on whether he’s going to use the William’s themes and traits from the original, or not. People who only care about the nature and amount of usage of traits from the John Williams original, like Ottman’s NOT doing a wholly-new original score for the movie? Pah-lease!
