Title: News on Die Hard 4

Predatorfan - May 3, 2006 08:26 PM (GMT)
This is what I read on a Belgian movie site about Die Hard 4. Rumors have been going on forever. I'll just quote the most important things.

QUOTE
“The most recent attempt draft is on the table, and if 20th Century Fox and Bruce Willis agree, we have a script”.

And next.

QUOTE
"There's not a chance that McTiernan might still get the job. I don't say that pejoratively. We're going to find a new, young, exciting director. Well, it's kind of tough to get John now. He might not be available."

Now what the article also said is that John McTiernan is not standing in a very good daylight in Hollywood. I don't know what that means. They said "might", the person who posted this said 'not very good daylight'. It's been almost seven years since I saw a McTiernan movie coming out at that was The Thomas Crown Affair. After that it's like he disappeared. I think with this movie he can make a come back. Come on this man achieved a lot on the action genre. Predator, Die Hard (which we can call a classic by now), Last Action Hero, Die Hard with a Vengeance. Die Hard 2 was also very good but the least succeeded one of the three. If they need other directors; here's what I think.

Renny Harlin is maybe a choice for the fourth one if you look at his other movies. Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger, Deep Blue Sea. Perhaps so called flopped movies (the last two that is) Harlin just really sucked on The Exorcist: the beginning.

Another one and maybe a better one to replace McTiernan would be Richard Donner. He made a great franchise with Lethal Weapon, he understands the action genre like McTiernan does and has experience. And Donner knows Bruce Willis since they recently worked together on 16 Blocks.

Maybe Shane Black is another good option. He wrote Lethal Weapon, The Last Boyscout and just directed Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. I saw that one a few days ago. The scenario and directing was solid and it gave me The Last Boyscout feeling a little bit. Now I mentioned The Last Boyscout, Tony Scott crossed my mind, maybe a little risky however Man on Fire scored big I heard but Domino didn't.

Jonathan Hensleigh. He wrote the third movie and what a scenario was that!!! The third movie overpowers the second installment greatly. OK, so The Punisher was a little less succesfull.

Other directors well, there are more and more names coming up like Brian De Palma but I doubt it. Michael Bay, Rob Cohen and Simon West, those are considerable but very unlikely. I don't trust them with their um... composer choice. Maybe Trevor Rabin but... Michael Kamens score was way too good to go lost in their style. He rests in peace now!!

Two others that crossed my mind just now: John Woo and JJ Abrahams. Those two also seemed to know their way in action. JJ Abrahams scored with Lost and MI-III seems to do very good too and John Woo... look at his films and you know what I mean.

And the last two but certainly not the least: Robert Rodriguez and Stephen Sommers. With Sommers we're at least sure Silvestri gets to do the composing. But with McTiernan or Donner we're even more sure that there will be Kamen's score in. Others who may always compose this movie would be JNH, for instance. He proved what he could do with Kong *remembering the music of the bug pit scene*. :music:
So let me know what you think.
